1 Deux ans après, il advint que Pharaon eut un songe: il se tenait près du Nil	1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
2 et il vit monter du Nil sept vaches de belle apparence et grasses de chair, qui pâturèrent dans lesjoncs.	2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.
3 Mais voici que sept autres vaches montèrent du Nil derrière elles, laides d'apparence et maigres dechair, et elles se rangèrent à côté des premières, sur la rive du Nil.	3 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.
4 Et les vaches laides d'apparence et maigres de chair dévorèrent les sept vaches grasses et bellesd'apparence. Alors Pharaon s'éveilla.	4 And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.
5 Il se rendormit et eut un second songe: sept épis montaient d'une même tige, gros et beaux.	5 And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.
6 Mais voici que sept épis grêles et brûlés par le vent d'est poussèrent après eux.	6 And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
7 Et les épis grêles engloutirent les sept épis gros et pleins. Alors Pharaon s'éveilla: voilà que c'étaitun songe!	7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
8 Au matin, l'esprit troublé, Pharaon fit appeler tous les magiciens et tous les sages d'Egypte et il leurraconta le songe qu'il avait eu, mais personne ne put l'expliquer à Pharaon.	8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
9 Alors, le grand échanson adressa la parole à Pharaon et dit: "Je dois confesser aujourd'hui mesfautes!	9 Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:
10 Pharaon s'était irrité contre ses serviteurs et les avait mis aux arrêts chez le commandant desgardes, moi et le grand panetier.	10 Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker:
11 Nous eûmes un songe, la même nuit, lui et moi, mais la signification du songe était différentepour chacun.	11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
12 Il y avait là avec nous un jeune Hébreu, un esclave du commandant des gardes. Nous lui avonsraconté nos songes et il nous les a interprétés: il a interprété le songe de chacun.	12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.
13 Et juste comme il nous l'avait expliqué, ainsi arriva-t-il: je fus rétabli dans mon emploi et l'autrefut pendu."	13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.
14 Alors Pharaon fit appeler Joseph, et on l'amena en hâte de la prison. Il se rasa, changea devêtements et se présenta devant Pharaon.	14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.
15 Pharaon dit à Joseph: "J'ai eu un songe et personne ne peut l'interpréter. Mais j'ai entendu dire detoi qu'il te suffit d'entendre un songe pour savoir l'interpréter."	15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
16 Joseph répondit à Pharaon: "Je ne compte pas! C'est Dieu qui donnera à Pharaon une réponsefavorable."	16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
17 Alors Pharaon parla ainsi à Joseph: "Dans mon songe, il me semblait que je me tenais sur la rivedu Nil.	17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:
18 Voici que montèrent du Nil sept vaches grasses de chair et belles d'aspect, qui pâturèrent dans lesjoncs.	18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:
19 Mais voici que sept autres vaches montèrent après elles, efflanquées, très laides d'aspect etmaigres de chair, je n'en ai jamais vu d'aussi laides dans tout le pays d'Egypte.	19 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:
20 Les vaches maigres et laides dévorèrent les sept premières, les vaches grasses.	20 And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:
21 Et lorsqu'elles les eurent avalées, on ne s'aperçut pas qu'elles les avaient avalées, car leurapparence était aussi laide qu'au début. Là-dessus, je m'éveillai.	21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
22 Puis j'ai vu en songe sept épis monter d'une même tige, pleins et beaux.	22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:
23 Mais voici que sept épis desséchés, grêles et brûlés par le vent d'est poussèrent après eux.	23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:
24 Et les épis grêles engloutirent les sept beaux épis. J'ai dit cela aux magiciens mais il n'y apersonne qui me donne la réponse."	24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.
25 Joseph dit à Pharaon: "Le Pharaon n'a fait qu'un seul songe: Dieu a annoncé à Pharaon ce qu'il vaaccomplir.	25 And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.
26 Les sept belles vaches représentent sept années, et les sept beaux épis représentent sept années,c'est un seul et même songe.	26 The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.
27 Les sept vaches maigres et laides qui montent ensuite représentent sept années et aussi les septépis grêles et brûlés par le vent d'est: c'est qu'il y aura sept années de famine.	27 And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.
28 C'est ce que j'ai dit à Pharaon; Dieu a montré à Pharaon ce qu'il va accomplir:	28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.
29 voici que viennent sept années où il y aura grande abondance dans tout le pays d'Egypte,	29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:
30 puis leur succéderont sept années de famine et on oubliera toute l'abondance dans le paysd'Egypte; la famine épuisera le pays	30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;
31 et l'on ne saura plus ce qu'était l'abondance dans le pays, en face de cette famine qui suivra, carelle sera très dure.	31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.
32 Et si le songe de Pharaon s'est renouvelé deux fois, c'est que la chose est bien décidée de la partde Dieu et que Dieu a hâte de l'accomplir.	32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
33 "Maintenant, que Pharaon discerne un homme intelligent et sage et qu'il l'établisse sur le paysd'Egypte.	33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
34 Que Pharaon agisse et qu'il institue des fonctionnaires sur le pays; il imposera au cinquième lepays d'Egypte pendant les sept années d'abondance,	34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.
35 ils ramasseront tous les vivres de ces bonnes années qui viennent, ils emmagasineront le blé sousl'autorité de Pharaon, ils mettront les vivres dans les villes et les y garderont.	35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
36 Ces vivres serviront de réserve au pays pour les sept années de famine qui s'abattront sur le paysd'Egypte, et le pays ne sera pas exterminé par la famine."	36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.
37 Le discours plut à Pharaon et à tous ses officiers	37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38 et Pharaon dit à ses officiers: "Trouverons-nous un homme comme celui-ci, en qui soit l'esprit deDieu?"	38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
39 Alors Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Après que Dieu t'a fait connaître tout cela, il n'y a personned'intelligent et de sage comme toi.	39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
40 C'est toi qui seras mon maître du palais et tout mon peuple se conformera à tes ordres, je ne tedépasserai que par le trône."	40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
41 Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Vois: je t'établis sur tout le pays d'Egypte"	41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42 et Pharaon ôta son anneau de sa main et le mit à la main de Joseph, il le revêtit d'habits de lin finet lui passa au coule collier d'or.	42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
43 Il le fit monter sur le meilleur char qu'il avait après le sien et on criait devant lui "Abrek." Ainsifut-il établi surtout le pays d'Egypte.	43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
44 Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Je suis Pharaon, mais sans ta permission personne ne lèvera la main ni lepied dans tout le pays d'Egypte."	44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
45 Et Pharaon imposa à Joseph le nom de Cophnat-Panéah et il lui donna pour femme Asnat, fille dePoti-Phéra, prêtre d'On. Et Joseph partit pour le pays d'Egypte.	45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-paaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
46 Joseph avait 30 ans lorsqu'il se présenta devant Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et Joseph quitta la présencede Pharaon et parcourut tout le pays d'Egypte.	46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47 Pendant les sept années d'abondance, la terre produisit à profusion	47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
48 et il ramassa tous les vivres des sept années où il y eut abondance au pays d'Egypte et déposa lesvivres dans les villes, mettant dans chaque ville les vivres de la campagne environnante.	48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
49 Joseph emmagasina le blé comme le sable de la mer, en telle quantité qu'on renonça à en faire lecompte, car cela dépassait toute mesure.	49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.
50 Avant que vînt l'année de la famine, il naquit à Joseph deux fils que lui donna Asnat, fille de Poti-Phéra, prêtre d'On.	50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.
51 Joseph donna à l'aîné le nom de Manassé, "car, dit-il, Dieu m'a fait oublier toute ma peine et toutela famille de mon père."	51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.
52 Quant au second, il l'appela Ephraïm, "car, dit-il, Dieu m'a rendu fécond au pays de monmalheur."	52 And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
53 Alors prirent fin les sept années d'abondance qu'il y eut au pays d'Egypte	53 And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.
54 et commencèrent à venir les sept années de famine, comme l'avait dit Joseph. Il y avait faminedans tous les pays, mais il y avait du pain dans tout le pays d'Egypte.	54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55 Puis tout le pays d'Egypte souffrit de la faim et le peuple demanda à grands cris du pain àPharaon, mais Pharaon dit à tous les Egyptiens: "Allez à Joseph et faites ce qu'il vous dira" --	55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.
56 La famine sévissait par toute la terre. -- Alors Joseph ouvrit tous les magasins à blé et vendit dugrain aux Egyptiens. La famine s'aggrava encore au pays d'Egypte.	56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.
57 De toute la terre on vint en Egypte pour acheter du grain à Joseph, car la famine s'aggravait partoute la terre.	57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.
