1 And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.	1 Sucedió que por aquellos días salió un edicto de César Augusto ordenando que se empadronase todo el mundo.
2 This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria.	2 Este primer empadronamiento tuvo lugar siendo gobernador de Siria Cirino.
3 And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city.	3 Iban todos a empadronarse, cada uno a su ciudad.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,	4 Subió también José desde Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, por ser él de la casa y familia de David,
5 To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.	5 para empadronarse con María, su esposa, que estaba encinta.
6 And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered.	6 Y sucedió que, mientras ellos estaban allí, se le cumplieron los días del alumbramiento,
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.	7 y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, le envolvió en pañales y le acostó en un pesebre, porque no tenían sitio en el alojamiento.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.	8 Había en la misma comarca unos pastores, que dormían al raso y vigilaban por turno durante la noche su rebaño.
9 And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.	9 Se les presentó el Angel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor los envolvió en su luz; y se llenaron de temor.
10 And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:	10 El ángel les dijo: «No temáis, pues os anuncio una gran alegría, que lo será para todo el pueblo:
11 For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.	11 os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un salvador, que es el Cristo Señor;
12 And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.	12 y esto os servirá de señal: encontraréis un niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre».
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:	13 Y de pronto se juntó con el ángel una multitud del ejército celestial, que alababa a Dios, diciendo:
14 Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.	14 «Gloria a Dios en las alturas y en la tierra paz a los hombres en quienes él se complace».
15 And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us.	15 Y sucedió que cuando los ángeles, dejándoles, se fueron al cielo, los pastores se decían unos a otros: «Vayamos, pues, hasta Belén y veamos lo que ha sucedido y el Señor nos ha manifestado».
16 And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.	16 Y fueron a toda prisa, y encontraron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
17 And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.	17 Al verlo, dieron a conocer lo que les habían dicho acerca de aquel niño;
18 And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.	18 y todos los que lo oyeron se maravillaban de lo que los pastores les decían.
19 But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.	19 María, por su parte, guardaba todas estas cosas, y las meditaba en su corazón.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.	20 Los pastores se volvieron glorificando y alabando a Dios por todo lo que habían oído y visto, conforme a lo que se les había dicho.
21 And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.	21 Cuando se cumplieron los ocho días para circuncidarle, se le dio el nombre de Jesús, el que le dio el ángel antes de ser concebido en el seno.
22 And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:	22 Cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos, según la Ley de Moisés, llevaron a Jesús a Jerusalén para presentarle al Señor,
23 As it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord:	23 como está escrito en la Ley del Señor: Todo varón primogénito será consagrado al Señor
24 And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:	24 y para ofrecer en sacrificio un par de tórtolas o dos pichones, conforme a lo que se dice en la Ley del Señor.
25 And behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was in him.	25 Y he aquí que había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón; este hombre era justo y piadoso, y esperaba la consolación de Israel; y estaba en él el Espíritu Santo.
26 And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.	26 Le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes de haber visto al Cristo del Señor.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,	27 Movido por el Espíritu, vino al Templo; y cuando los padres introdujeron al niño Jesús, para cumplir lo que la Ley prescribía sobre él,
28 He also took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said:	28 le tomó en brazos y bendijo a Dios diciendo:
29 Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace;	29 «Ahora, Señor, puedes, según tu palabra, dejar que tu siervo se vaya en paz;
30 Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,	30 porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:	31 la que has preparado a la vista de todos los pueblos,
32 A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.	32 luz para iluminar a los gentiles y gloria de tu pueblo Israel».
33 And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him.	33 Su padre y su madre estaban admirados de lo que se decía de él.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;	34 Simeón les bendijo y dijo a María, su madre: «Este está puesto para caída y elevación de muchos en Israel, y para ser señal de contradicción -
35 And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.	35 ¡y a ti misma una espada te atravesará el alma! - a fin de que queden al descubierto las intenciones de muchos corazones».
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was far advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity.	36 Había también una profetisa, Ana, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad avanzada; después de casarse había vivido siete años con su marido,
37 And she was a widow until fourscore and four years; who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.	37 y permaneció viuda hasta los ochenta y cuatro años; no se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo a Dios noche y día en ayunos y oraciones.
38 Now she, at the same hour, coming in, confessed to the Lord; and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of Israel.	38 Como se presentase en aquella misma hora, alababa a Dios y hablaba del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención de Jerusalén.
39 And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.	39 Así que cumplieron todas las cosas según la Ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong, full of wisdom; and the grace of God was in him.	40 El niño crecía y se fortalecía, llenándose de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre él.
41 And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch,	41 Sus padres iban todos los años a Jerusalén a la fiesta de la Pascua.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,	42 Cuando tuvo doce años, subieron ellos como de costumbre a la fiesta
43 And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.	43 y, al volverse, pasados los días, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, sin saberlo su padres.
44 And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance.	44 Pero creyendo que estaría en la caravana, hicieron un día de camino, y le buscaban entre los parientes y conocidos;
45 And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.	45 pero al no encontrarle, se volvieron a Jerusalén en su busca.
46 And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions.	46 Y sucedió que, al cabo de tres días, le encontraron en el Templo sentado en medio de los maestros, escuchándoles y preguntándoles;
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.	47 todos los que le oían, estaban estupefactos por su inteligencia y sus respuestas.
48 And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.	48 Cuando le vieron, quedaron sorprendidos, y su madre le dijo: «Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Mira, tu padre y yo, angustiados, te andábamos buscando».
49 And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father's business?	49 El les dijo: «Y ¿por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que yo debía estar en la casa de mi Padre?»
50 And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.	50 Pero ellos no comprendieron la respuesta que les dio.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.	51 Bajó con ellos y vino a Nazaret, y vivía sujeto a ellos. Su madre conservaba cuidadosamente todas las cosas en su corazón.
52 And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.	52 Jesús progresaba en sabiduría, en estatura y en gracia ante Dios y ante los hombres.
