| 1 Or, deux jours après, c'étaient la Pâque et les Azymes, et les princes des prêtres et les scribes cherchaient comment ils se saisiraient de Jésus par ruse, et le feraient mourir. | 1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death. |
| 2 Mais ils disaient : Que ce ne soit pas le jour de la fête, de peur qu'il ne s'élève quelque tumulte parmi le peuple. | 2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people. |
| 3 Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, et qu'il était à table, une femme entra, portant un vase d'albâtre plein d'un parfum précieux, de nard d'épi, et ayant rompu le vase, elle répandit le parfum sur la tête de Jésus. | 3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. |
| 4 Or il y en avait là quelques-uns qui s'indignèrent en eux-mêmes, et qui disaient : A quoi bon perdre ainsi ce parfum ? | 4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? |
| 5 Car on pouvait vendre ce parfum plus de trois cents deniers, et les donner aux pauvres. Et ils s'irritaient contre elle. | 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. |
| 6 Mais Jésus dit : Laissez-la ; pourquoi lui faites-vous de la peine ? Elle a fait une bonne œuvre à mon égard. | 6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. |
| 7 Car vous avez toujours des pauvres avec vous, et quand vous voudrez, vous pourrez leur faire du bien ; mais moi, vous ne m'aurez pas toujours. | 7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. |
| 8 Ce qu'elle a pu, elle l'a fait ; elle a d'avance embaumé mon corps pour la sépulture. | 8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. |
| 9 En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où sera prêché cet Evangile, dans le monde entier, on racontera aussi, en mémoire de cette femme, ce qu'elle a fait. | 9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her. |
| 10 Alors Judas Iscariote, l'un des douze, s'en alla vers les princes des prêtres, pour leur livrer Jésus. | 10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them. |
| 11 Après l'avoir entendu, ils se réjouirent, et promirent de lui donner de l'argent. Et il cherchait une occasion favorable pour le livrer. | 11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him. |
| 12 Le premier jour des Azymes, où on immolait la pâque, les disciples lui dirent : Où voulez-vous que nous allions vous préparer ce qu'il faut pour manger la pâque ? | 12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover? |
| 13 Et il envoya deux de ses disciples, et leur dit : Allez à la ville, et vous rencontrerez un homme portant une cruche d'eau ; suivez-le, | 13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. |
| 14 et en quelque lieu qu'il entre, dites au maître de la maison : Le Maître dit : Où est le lieu où je pourrai manger la pâque avec mes disciples ? | 14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? |
| 15 Et il vous montrera une grande chambre haute, toute meublée ; là faites-nous les préparatifs. | 15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. |
| 16 Ses disciples s'en allèrent donc et vinrent dans la ville ; et ils trouvèrent les choses comme il le leur avait dit, et ils préparèrent la pâque. | 16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. |
| 17 Le soir étant venu, il se rendit là avec les douze. | 17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. |
| 18 Et tandis qu'ils étaient à table et qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus dit : En vérité, je vous le dis : l'un de vous qui mange avec moi me trahira. | 18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. |
| 19 Ils commencèrent à s'attrister, et à lui dire l'un après l'autre : Est-ce moi ? | 19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I? |
| 20 Il leur répondit : C'est l'un des douze, qui met avec moi la main au plat. | 20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish. |
| 21 Pour le Fils de l'homme, il s'en va selon ce qui a été écrit de lui ; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme sera trahi ! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme qu'il ne fût pas né. | 21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born. |
| 22 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain, et l'ayant béni, il le rompit et le leur donna, en disant : Prenez, ceci est mon corps. | 22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. |
| 23 Et ayant pris le calice et rendu grâces, il le leur donna, et ils en burent tous. | 23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. |
| 24 Et il leur dit : Ceci est mon sang, le sang de la nouvelle alliance, qui sera répandu pour un grand nombre. | 24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. |
| 25 En vérité, je vous le dis, désormais je ne boirai plus du fruit de la vigne jusqu'au jour où j'en boirai du nouveau dans le royaume de Dieu. | 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God. |
| 26 Et après avoir dit l'hymne, ils s'en allèrent à la montagne des Oliviers. | 26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. |
| 27 Et Jésus leur dit : Vous serez tous scandalisés cette nuit à mon sujet, car il est écrit : Je frapperai le pasteur, et les brebis seront dispersées. | 27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. |
| 28 Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée. | 28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. |
| 29 Or Pierre lui dit : Quand tous seraient scandalisés à votre sujet, je ne le serai pas. | 29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I. |
| 30 Et Jésus lui dit : En vérité, je te le dis, aujourd'hui, pendant cette nuit, avant que le coq ait chanté deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois. | 30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. |
| 31 Mais Pierre insistait encore davantage : Quand il me faudrait mourir avec vous, je ne vous renierai pas. Et tous disaient la même chose. | 31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all. |
| 32 Ils allèrent ensuite dans une propriété appelée Gethsémani. Et il dit à ses disciples : Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que je prierai. | 32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. |
| 33 Et il prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commença à être saisi de frayeur et d'angoisse. | 33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; |
| 34 Et il leur dit : Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort ; demeurez ici, et veillez. | 34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. |
| 35 Et s'étant avancé un peu, il se prosterna contre terre, et il priait pour que, s'il était possible, cette heure s'éloignât de lui. | 35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. |
| 36 Et il dit : Abba, Père, tout vous est possible ; transportez ce calice loin de moi ; toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que vous voulez. | 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. |
| 37 Il vint vers les disciples, et il les trouva endormis. Et il dit à Pierre : Simon, tu dors ? Tu n'as pas pu veiller une heure ? | 37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? |
| 38 Veillez et priez, afin que vous n'entriez pas en tentation. L'esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible. | 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. |
| 39 Et, s'en allant de nouveau, il pria, redisant les mêmes paroles. | 39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. |
| 40 Et étant venu, il les trouva encore endormis ; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis de sommeil, et ils ne savaient que lui répondre. | 40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. |
| 41 Il revint pour la troisième fois, et il leur dit : Dormez maintenant et reposez-vous. C'est assez, l'heure est venue ; voici que le Fils de l'homme va être livré aux mains des pécheurs. | 41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. |
| 42 Levez-vous, allons ; voici que celui qui me livrera est proche. | 42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand. |
| 43 Et comme il parlait encore, Judas Iscariote, l'un des douze, vint, et avec lui une grande foule, armée d'épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les grands prêtres, et les scribes, et les anciens. | 43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. |
| 44 Or celui qui le trahissait leur avait donné ce signal, en disant : Celui que je baiserai, c'est lui ; saisissez-le, et emmenez-le avec précaution. | 44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely. |
| 45 Etant donc arrivé, il s'approcha aussitôt de Jésus, et dit : Maître, je vous salue. Et il le baisa. | 45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him. |
| 46 Alors ils mirent les mains sur Jésus, et le saisirent. | 46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him. |
| 47 Un de ceux qui étaient présents, tirant son épée, frappa le serviteur du grand prêtre, et lui coupa l'oreille. | 47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. |
| 48 Jésus, prenant la parole, leur dit : Vous êtes venus, comme contre un voleur, armés d'épées et de bâtons, pour me prendre. | 48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me? |
| 49 Tous les jours j'étais au milieu de vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté ; mais c'est pour que les Ecritures soient accomplies. | 49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled. |
| 50 Alors ses disciples, l'abandonnant, s'enfuirent tous. | 50 And they all forsook him, and fled. |
| 51 Cependant un jeune homme le suivait, couvert seulement d'un drap, et ils le saisirent. | 51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: |
| 52 Mais lui, rejetant le drap, s'enfuit nu de leurs mains. | 52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. |
| 53 Ils emmenèrent Jésus chez le grand prêtre, où s'assemblèrent tous les prêtres, les scribes et les anciens. | 53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. |
| 54 Pierre le suivit de loin, jusque dans la cour du grand prêtre, et il s'assit auprès du feu avec les serviteurs, et il se chauffait. | 54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. |
| 55 Cependant les princes des prêtres et tout le conseil cherchaient un témoignage contre Jésus pour le faire mourir ; et ils n'en trouvaient pas. | 55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none. |
| 56 Car beaucoup rendaient de faux témoignages contre lui ; mais les témoignages ne s'accordaient pas. | 56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together. |
| 57 Quelques-uns, se levant, portèrent un faux témoignage contre lui, en disant : | 57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, |
| 58 Nous l'avons entendu dire : Je détruirai ce temple, fait de main d'homme, et en trois jours j'en bâtirai un autre, qui ne sera pas fait de main d'homme. | 58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. |
| 59 Mais leur témoignage ne concordait pas. | 59 But neither so did their witness agree together. |
| 60 Alors le grand prêtre, se levant au milieu de l'assemblée, interrogea Jésus, en disant : Tu ne réponds rien à ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi ? | 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? |
| 61 Mais Jésus se taisait, et il ne répondit rien. Le grand prêtre l'interrogea de nouveau, et lui dit : Es-tu le Christ, le Fils du Dieu béni ? | 61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? |
| 62 Jésus lui répondit : Je le suis ; et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel. | 62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. |
| 63 Alors le grand prêtre, déchirant ses vêtements, dit : Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins ? | 63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses? |
| 64 Vous avez entendu le blasphème ; que vous en semble ? Tous le condamnèrent comme méritant la mort. | 64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. |
| 65 Alors quelques-uns commencèrent à cracher sur lui, et à lui voiler le visage, et à le frapper à coups de poing, et à lui dire : Prophétise. Et les valets le meurtrissaient de soufflets. | 65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands. |
| 66 Tandis que Pierre était en bas dans la cour, une des servantes du grand prêtre survint ; | 66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest: |
| 67 et ayant vu Pierre qui se chauffait, elle le regarda, et dit : Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus de Nazareth. | 67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. |
| 68 Mais il le nia, en disant : Je ne sais pas et je ne comprends pas ce que tu dis. Et il sortit dehors, devant la cour, et le coq chanta. | 68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. |
| 69 La servante, l'ayant vu de nouveau, se mit à dire à ceux qui étaient présents : Celui-ci est un d'entre eux. | 69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. |
| 70 Mais il le nia de nouveau. Et peu après, ceux qui étaient présents dirent encore à Pierre : Certainement tu es un d'entre eux, car tu es aussi Galiléen. | 70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. |
| 71 Il se mit alors à faire des imprécations, et à dire avec serment : Je ne connais pas cet homme dont vous parlez. | 71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak. |
| 72 Et aussitôt le coq chanta de nouveau. Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que Jésus lui avait dite : Avant que le coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois. Et il se mit à pleurer. | 72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. |
