| 1 Voici la postérité (les générations) d'Aaron et de Moïse, au temps où le Seigneur parla à Moïse sur la montagne du (de) Sinaï. | 1 The following were the descendants of Aaron and Moses at the time that the LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai. |
| 2 Et voici les noms des enfants d'Aaron : Nadab l'aîné, puis Abiu, Eléazar et Ithamar. | 2 The sons of Aaron were Nadab his first-born, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. |
| 3 Ce sont les noms des enfants d'Aaron qui furent prêtres, qui reçurent l'onction, et dont les mains furent remplies et consacrées pour exercer les fonctions du sacerdoce. | 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests who were ordained to exercise the priesthood. |
| 4 Or Nadab et Abiu, ayant offert un feu étranger devant le Seigneur au désert du (de) Sinaï, moururent sans enfants ; et Eléazar et Ithamar exercèrent les fonctions du sacerdoce du vivant de leur père Aaron. | 4 But when Nadab and Abihu offered profane fire before the LORD in the desert of Sinai, they met death in the presence of the LORD, and left no sons. Thereafter only Eleazar and Ithamar performed the priestly functions under the direction of their father Aaron. |
| 5 Le Seigneur parla (donc) à Moïse, et lui dit : | 5 Now the LORD said to Moses: |
| 6 Fais approcher la tribu de Lévi, et fais que ceux de cette tribu se tiennent devant le prêtre Aaron, afin qu'ils le servent et qu'ils veillent, | 6 "Summon the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest, as his assistants. |
| 7 qu'ils observent tout ce qui regarde le culte que le peuple doit me rendre devant le tabernacle du (de) témoignage, | 7 They shall discharge his obligations and those of the whole community before the meeting tent by serving at the Dwelling. |
| 8 qu'ils aient en garde les ustensiles (vases) du tabernacle, et qu'ils rendent tous les services qui regardent le saint ministère. | 8 They shall have custody of all the furnishings of the meeting tent and discharge the duties of the Israelites in the service of the Dwelling. |
| 9 (Et) Tu donneras (en dons) les Lévites | 9 You shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they have been set aside from among the Israelites as dedicated to me. |
| 10 à Aaron et à ses fils, auxquels ils ont été livrés (accordés) par les enfants d'Israël. Mais tu établiras Aaron et ses enfants pour les fonctions du sacerdoce. Tout étranger qui s'approchera du saint ministère sera puni de mort. | 10 But only Aaron and his descendants shall you appoint to have charge of the priestly functions. Any layman who comes near shall be put to death." |
| 11 Le Seigneur parla encore à Moïse, et lui dit : | 11 The LORD said to Moses, |
| 12 J'ai pris les Lévites d'entre les enfants d'Israël à la place de tous les premiers-nés, qui sortent les premiers du sein de leur mère d'entre les enfants d'Israël ; c'est pourquoi les Lévites seront à moi, | 12 "It is I who have chosen the Levites from the Israelites in place of every first-born that opens the womb among the Israelites. The Levites, therefore, are mine, |
| 13 car tous les premiers-nés sont à moi. Depuis que j'ai frappé dans l'Egypte les premiers-nés, j'ai consacré pour moi tout ce qui naît le premier en Israël, depuis les hommes jusqu'aux bêtes ; (ils sont tous à moi). Je suis le Seigneur. | 13 because every first-born is mine. When I slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, I made all the first-born in Israel sacred to me, both of man and of beast. They belong to me; I am the LORD." |
| 14 Le Seigneur parla de nouveau à Moïse au désert du (de) Sinaï, et lui dit : | 14 The LORD said to Moses in the desert of Sinai, |
| 15 Fais le dénombrement des enfants de Lévi selon toutes les maisons de leurs pères et selon leurs familles, et compte tous les mâles depuis un mois et au-dessus. | 15 "Take a census of the Levites by ancestral houses and clans, registering every male of a month or more." |
| 16 Moïse en fit donc le dénombrement comme le Seigneur l'avait ordonné. | 16 Moses, therefore, took their census in accordance with the command the LORD had given him. |
| 17 Et il trouva comme fils de Lévi ceux dont voici les noms : Gerson, Caath et Mérari. | 17 The sons of Levi were named Gershon, Kohath and Merari. |
| 18 Les fils de Gerson sont Lebni et Séméi. | 18 The descendants of Gershon, by clans, were named Libni and Shimei. |
| 19 Les fils de Caath sont Amram, Jésaar, Hébron et Oziel. | 19 The descendants of Kohath, by clans, were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. |
| 20 Les fils de Mérari sont Moholi et Musi. | 20 The descendants of Merari, by clans, were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites by ancestral houses. |
| 21 De Gerson sont sorties deux familles, celle de Lebni et celle de Séméi, | 21 To Gershon belonged the clan of the Libnites and the clan of the Shimeites; these were the clans of the Gershonites. |
| 22 dont tous les mâles ayant été comptés depuis un mois et au-dessus, il s'en trouva sept mille cinq cents. | 22 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered seven thousand five hundred. |
| 23 Ceux-ci doivent camper (camperont) derrière le tabernacle, vers l'occident, | 23 The clans of the Gershonites camped behind the Dwelling, to the west. |
| 24 ayant pour prince Eliasaph, fils de Laël. | 24 The prince of their ancestral house was Eliasaph, son of Lael. |
| 25 Et ils veilleront dans le tabernacle de l'alliance, | 25 At the meeting tent they had charge of whatever pertained to the Dwelling, the tent and its covering, the curtain at the entrance of the meeting tent, |
| 26 ayant en leur garde le tabernacle même, sa couverture, le voile qu'on tire devant la porte du tabernacle de l'alliance, et les rideaux du parvis ; comme aussi le voile qui est suspendu à l'entrée du parvis du tabernacle, tout ce qui appartient au ministère de l'autel, les cordages du tabernacle, et tout ce qui est employé à son usage. | 26 the hangings of the court, the curtain at the entrance of the court enclosing both the Dwelling and the altar, and the ropes. |
| 27 De Caath sont sorties les familles des Amramites, des Jésaarites, des Hébronites et des Oziélites. Ce sont là les familles des Caathites, dont on a fait le dénombrement selon leurs noms. | 27 To Kohath belonged the clans of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites; these were the clans of the Kohathites. |
| 28 Tous les mâles (ceux du genre masculin) depuis un mois et au-dessus sont au nombre de huit mille six cents. Ils veilleront à la garde du sanctuaire, | 28 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered eight thousand three hundred. They had charge of the sanctuary. |
| 29 et ils camperont vers le midi. | 29 The clans of the Kohathites camped at the south side of the Dwelling. |
| 30 Leur prince sera Elisaphan, fils d'Oziel. | 30 The prince of their ancestral house was Elizaphan, son of Uzziel. |
| 31 (Ainsi) Ils garderont l'arche, la table, le chandelier, les autels et les vases du sanctuaire qui servent au saint ministère, le voile et toutes les choses de cette nature. | 31 They had charge of whatever pertained to the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the utensils with which the ministry of the sanctuary was exercised, and the veil. |
| 32 (Mais) Eléazar, fils du prêtre Aaron et prince des princes des Lévites, sera préposé à (au-dessus de) ceux qui veilleront à la garde du sanctuaire. | 32 The chief prince of the Levites, however, was Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest; he was supervisor over those who had charge of the sanctuary. |
| 33 Les familles sorties de Mérari sont les Moholites et les Musites, dont on a fait le dénombrement selon leurs noms. | 33 To Merari belonged the clans of the Mahlites and the Mushites; these were the clans of Merari. |
| 34 Tous les mâles depuis un mois et au-dessus sont au nombre de six mille deux cents. | 34 When all their males of a month or more were registered, they numbered six thousand two hundred. |
| 35 Leur prince est Suriel, fils d'Abihaïel ; ils camperont vers le septentrion. | 35 The prince of the ancestral house of the clans of Merari was Zuriel, son of Abihail. They camped at the north side of the Dwelling. |
| 36 Ils auront en garde les ais du tabernacle, les barres (leviers), les colonnes avec leurs bases, et tout ce qui en dépend ; | 36 The Merarites were charged with the care of whatever pertained to the boards of the Dwelling, its bars, columns, pedestals, and all its fittings, |
| 37 les colonnes qui environnent le parvis avec leurs bases, et les pieux avec leurs cordages. | 37 as well as the columns of the surrounding court with their pedestals, pegs and ropes. |
| 38 Moïse et Aaron avec ses fils, qui ont la garde du sanctuaire au milieu des enfants d'Israël, camperont devant le tabernacle de l'alliance, c'est-à-dire du côté de l'orient. Tout étranger qui s'en approchera sera puni de mort. | 38 East of the Dwelling, that is, in front of the meeting tent, toward the sunrise, were camped Moses and Aaron and the latter's sons. They discharged the obligations of the sanctuary for the Israelites. Any layman who came near was to be put to death. |
| 39 Tous les mâles d'entre les Lévites, depuis un mois et au-dessus, dont Moïse et Aaron firent le dénombrement selon leurs familles, comme le Seigneur le leur avait commandé, se trouvèrent au nombre de vingt-deux mille. | 39 The total number of male Levites a month old or more whom Moses had registered by clans in keeping with the LORD'S command, was twenty-two thousand. |
| 40 Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse : Dénombre tous les premiers-nés mâles des enfants d'Israël, depuis un mois et au-dessus, et tu en tiendras (le) compte. | 40 The LORD then said to Moses, "Take a census of all the first-born males of the Israelites a month old or more, and compute their total number. |
| 41 Tu prendras pour moi les Lévites à la place des premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël. Je suis le Seigneur ; et les troupeaux des Lévites seront pour tous les premiers-nés des troupeaux des enfants d'Israël. | 41 Then assign the Levites to me, the LORD, in place of all the first-born of the Israelites, as well as their cattle in place of all the first-born among the cattle of the Israelites." |
| 42 Moïse fit donc le dénombrement des premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël, comme le Seigneur l'avait ordonné ; | 42 So Moses took a census of all the first-born of the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded him. |
| 43 et tous les mâles ayant été marqués par leurs noms depuis un mois et au-dessus, il s'en trouva vingt-deux mille deux cent soixante-treize. | 43 When all the first-born males of a month or more were registered, they numbered twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three. |
| 44 Le Seigneur parla de nouveau à Moïse, et lui dit : | 44 The LORD said to Moses: |
| 45 Prends les Lévites pour les (à la place des) premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël, et les troupeaux des Lévites pour leurs troupeaux ; et les Lévites seront à moi. Je suis le Seigneur. | 45 "Take the Levites in place of all the first-born of the Israelites, and the Levites' cattle in place of their cattle, that the Levites may belong to me. I am the LORD. |
| 46 Et pour le prix des deux cent soixante-treize aînés des enfants d'Israël qui dépassent le nombre des Lévites, | 46 As ransom for the two hundred and seventy-three first-born of the Israelites who outnumber the Levites, |
| 47 tu prendras cinq sicles par tête au poids du sanctuaire. Le sicle est de (a) vingt oboles. | 47 you shall take five shekels for each individual, according to the standard of the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel. |
| 48 Et tu donneras cet argent à Aaron et à ses fils pour le prix de ceux qui dépassent le nombre des Lévites. | 48 Give this silver to Aaron and his sons as ransom for the extra number." |
| 49 Moïse prit donc l'argent de ceux qui dépassaient ce nombre, et qu'ils avaient racheté des Lévites : | 49 So Moses took the silver as ransom from those who were left when the rest had been redeemed by the Levites. |
| 50 ce qu'il reçut pour les premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël forma la somme de mille trois cent soixante-cinq sicles au poids du sanctuaire ; | 50 From the first-born of the Israelites he received in silver one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels according to the sanctuary standard. |
| 51 et il donna cet argent à Aaron et à ses fils, selon l'ordre que le Seigneur le lui avait donné. | 51 He then gave this ransom silver to Aaron and his sons, as the LORD had commanded him. |
