| 1 A Moab. Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, (le) Dieu d'Israël : Malheur à Nabo, car elle est ravagée et confuse ! Cariathaïm a été prise ; la ville forte est confuse, et elle a tremblé. | 1 Against Moab thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Woe to Nabo, for it is laid waste, and confounded: Cariathaim is taken: the strong city is confounded and hath trembled. |
| 2 Moab ne se glorifiera plus (contre) d'Hésébon ; on a (ses ennemis ont) médité sa perte : Venez, et exterminons-la du nombre des peuples (comme nation). Tu seras donc réduite au silence (absolu), et le glaive te poursuivra. | 2 There is no more rejoicing in Moab over Hesebon: they have devised evil. Come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Therefore shalt thou in silence hold thy peace, and the sword shall follow thee. |
| 3 Un grand cri sort d'Oronaïm ; c'est un ravage et une grande défaite (destruction). | 3 A voice of crying from Oronaim: waste, and great destruction. |
| 4 Moab est brisé ; annoncez cette nouvelle (un cri) à ses petits enfants. | 4 Moab is destroyed: proclaim a cry for her little ones. |
| 5 Par la montée de Luith on monte tout en pleurs, parce que les ennemis ont entendu à la descente d'Oronaïm des hurlements de détresse (destruction). | 5 For by the ascent of Luith shall the mourner go up with weeping: for in the descent of Oronaim the enemies have heard a howling of destruction. |
| 6 Fuyez, sauvez votre vie (vos âmes), et soyez comme des bruyères dans le désert ; | 6 Flee, save your lives: and be as heath in the wilderness. |
| 7 car, parce que tu t'es confié dans tes fortifications et dans tes trésors, tu seras pris(e), toi aussi ; et Chamos ira en captivité (émigrera), avec ses prêtres et avec ses princes. | 7 For because thou hast trusted in thy bulwarks, and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be taken: and Chamos shall go into captivity, his priests, and his princes together. |
| 8 Le pillard (Un spoliateur) viendra contre toutes les villes, et aucune ville n'échappera ; les vallées périront, et les campagnes seront ravagées, parce que le Seigneur l'a dit. | 8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: and the valleys shall perish, and the plains shall be destroyed, for the Lord hath spoken: |
| 9 Donnez des fleurs à Moab, car tout (parce qu'elle sortira) florissant(e) (il sera emmené captif) ; ses villes seront désertes et inhabitées (inhabitable). | 9 Give a flower to Moab, for in its flower it shall go out: and the cities thereof shall be desolate, and uninhabited. |
| 10 Maudit celui qui fait l'œuvre du Seigneur avec fraude, et maudit celui qui empêche son glaive de verser le sang ! (.) | 10 Cursed be he that doth the work of the Lord deceitfully: and cursed be he that withholdeth his sword from blood. |
| 11 Moab a été fertile dès sa jeunesse, il s'est reposé sur sa lie ; on ne l'a pas fait passer d'un vase dans un autre, et il n'est pas allé en captivité ; c'est pourquoi son goût lui est resté, et son odeur (parfum) ne s'est pas changée. | 11 Moab hath been fruitful from his youth, and hath rested upon his lees: and hath not been poured out from vessel to vessel, nor hath gone into captivity : therefore his taste hath remained in him, and his scent is not changed. |
| 12 Mais voici que les (des) jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, où je lui enverrai ceux qui range(ro)nt et renverse(ro)nt les bouteilles ; ils le renverseront, ils videront ses vases et ils briseront ses bouteilles. | 12 Therefore behold the days come, saith the Lord, and I will send him men that shall order and overturn his bottles, and they shall cast him down, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles one against another. |
| 13 Et Moab sera couvert de confusion par Chamos, de même que la maison d'Israël a été couverte de confusion par Béthel, en qui elle se confiait. | 13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chamos, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, in which they trusted. |
| 14 Comment dites-vous : Nous sommes forts, et des hommes vaillants pour combattre ? | 14 How do you say: We are valiant, and stout men in battle? |
| 15 Moab a été dévasté, ses villes se sont écroulées (ont été renversées), et ses jeunes gens d'élite ont été égorgés (a succombé dans le carnage), dit le roi qui a pour nom le Dieu (Seigneur) des armées. | 15 Moab is laid waste, and they have cast down her cities: and her choice young men are gone down to the slaughter: saith the king, whose name is the Lord of hosts. |
| 16 La ruine (destruction) de Moab est proche, et son malheur (sa ruine) accourra très promptement. | 16 The destruction of Moab is near to come: the calamity thereof shall come on exceeding swiftly. |
| 17 Consolez-le, vous tous qui êtes autour de lui ; et vous tous qui connaissez son nom, dites : Comment ce sceptre (une verge) puissant(e), ce sceptre (un bâton) de gloire a-t-il été brisé ? | 17 Comfort him, all you that are round about him, and all you that know his name, say: How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod? |
| 18 Descends de ta gloire, et assieds-toi dans la soif, habitation (habitante, note) de la fille de Dibon, car celui qui a ravagé Moab est monté contre toi, il a renversé (détruit) tes remparts. | 18 Come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst, O dwelling of the daughter of Dibon: because the spoiler of Moab is come up to thee, he hath destroyed thy bulwarks. |
| 19 Tiens-toi sur le chemin, habitante d'Aroër, et regarde ; interroge le fuyard et dis à celui qui s'est échappé (sauvé) : Qu'est-il arrivé ? | 19 Stand in the way, and look out, O habitation of Aroer: inquire of him that fleeth: and say to him that hath escaped: What Is done? |
| 20 Moab est confus, parce qu'il a été vaincu. Hurlez et criez, annoncez sur l'Arnon que Moab a été dévasté(e). | 20 Moab is confounded, because he is overthrown: howl ye, and cry, tell ye it in Amen, that Moab is wasted. |
| 21 Le jugement de Dieu (du Seigneur) est venu sur le (jusqu'au) pays de la plaine, sur Hélon, sur Jasa, sur Méphaath, | 21 And judgment is come upon the plain country: upon Helon, and upon Jasa, and upon Mephaath. |
| 22 sur Dibon, sur Nabo, sur la maison de Déblathaïm, | 22 And upon Dibon, and upon Nabo, and upon the house of Deblathaim, |
| 23 sur Cariathaïm, sur Bethgamul, sur Bethmaon, | 23 And upon Cariathaim, and upon Bethgamul, and upon Bethmaon, |
| 24 sur Carioth, sur Bosra, et sur toutes les villes du pays de Moab, celles qui sont loin et celles qui sont proches. | 24 And upon Carioth, and upon Bosra: and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near. |
| 25 La corne de Moab a été coupée (arrachée), et son bras a été brisé, dit le Seigneur. | 25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the Lord. |
| 26 Enivrez-le, car il s'est élevé contre le Seigneur ; Moab se brisera (heurtera) la main en tombant sur ce qu'il avait vomi, et il sera lui aussi un objet de moquerie. | 26 Make him drunk, because he lifted up himself against the Lord: and Moab shall dash his hand in his own vomit, and he also shall be in derision. |
| 27 Car Israël a été pour toi un objet de moquerie, comme si tu l'avais trouvé parmi les voleurs ; aussi, à cause des paroles que tu as proférées contre lui, tu seras conduit en captivité. | 27 For Israel hath been a derision unto thee: as though thou hadst found him amongst thieves: for thy words therefore, which thou hast spoken against him, thou shalt be led away captive. |
| 28 Abandonnez les villes, et demeurez dans les rochers, habitants de Moab ; soyez comme la colombe qui fait son nid au sommet de l'orifice d'une fissure (rocher). | 28 Leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, you that dwell in Moab: and be ye Iike the dove that maketh her nest in the mouth of the hole in the highest place. |
| 29 Nous avons appris l'orgueil de Moab ; il est tout à fait orgueilleux ; nous connaissons sa hauteur, son arrogance, son orgueil et la fierté de son cœur. | 29 We have heard the pride of Moab, he is exceeding proud: his haughtiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the loftiness of his heart. |
| 30 Je connais, dit le Seigneur, sa présomption, à laquelle ne répond pas sa force, et je sais que ses efforts ont dépassé son pouvoir. | 30 I know, saith the Lord, his boasting, and that the strength thereof is not according to it, neither hath it endeavoured to do according as it was able. |
| 31 C'est pourquoi je gémirai sur Moab, je crierai sur tout Moab, sur les habitants du (aux hommes de) mur de briques qui se lamentent. | 31 Therefore will I lament for Moab, and I will cry out to all Moab, for the men of the brick wall that mourn. |
| 32 Je te pleurerai avec les larmes (du pleur) de Jazer, vigne de Sabama. Tes rejetons ont passé la mer ; ils se sont étendus jusqu'à la mer de Jazer ; le pillard (un voleur) s'est précipité sur ta moisson et sur ta vendange. | 32 O vineyard of Sabama, I will weep for thee, with the mourning of Jazer: thy branches are gone over the sea, they are come even to the sea of Jazer: the robber hath rushed in upon thy harvest and thy vintage. |
| 33 La joie et l'allégresse ont disparu du Carmel et de la terre de Moab ; j'ai enlevé le vin des pressoirs, et celui qui foule les raisins ne chantera plus ses chants accoutumés. | 33 Joy and gladness is taken away from Carmel, and from the land of Moab, and I have taken away the wine out of the presses: the treader of the grapes shall not sing the accustomed cheerful tune. |
| 34 Les cris d'Hésébon ont retenti jusqu'à Eléalé et jusqu'à Jasa ; ils ont fait entendre leur voix depuis Ségor (génisse de trois ans) jusqu'à Oronaïm, génisse de trois ans ; les eaux mêmes de Nemrim deviendront très mauvaises. | 34 From the cry of Hesebon even to Eleale, and to Jasa, they have uttered their voice: from Segor to Oronaim, as a heifer of three years old: the waters also of Nemrim shall be very bad. |
| 35 Et j'enlèverai de Moab, dit le Seigneur, celui qui offre sur les hauts lieux, et qui sacrifie à ses dieux. | 35 And I will take away from Moab, saith the Lord, him that offereth in the high places, and that sacrificeth to his gods. |
| 36 C'est pourquoi mon cœur retentira comme une flûte sur Moab, mon cœur imitera le son de la flûte sur les habitants du (hommes de) mur de briques ; parce qu'ils ont fait plus qu'ils ne pouvaient, ils se sont perdus (ont péri). | 36 Therefore my heart shall sound for Moab like pipes: and my heart a sound like pipes for the men of the brick wall: because he hath done more than he could, therefore they have perished. |
| 37 Toutes les têtes seront chauves et toutes les barbes rasées ; dans toutes les mains il y aura des liens, et un cilice sur tous les dos. | 37 For every head shall be bald, and every beard shall be shaven: all hands shall be tied together, and upon every back there shall be haircloth. |
| 38 Sur tous les toits de Moab et dans toutes ses places tout se lamente, parce que j'ai brisé Moab comme un vase inutile, dit le Seigneur. | 38 Upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof general mourning: because I have broken Moab as an useless vessel, saith the Lord. |
| 39 Comment a-t-il (elle) été vaincu(e), et comment ont-ils hurlé ? comment Moab a-t-il baissé la tête et a-t-il été confus ? Moab sera un sujet de raillerie, et un exemple pour tous ceux qui l'environnent. | 39 How is it overthrown, and they have howled! How hath Moab bowed down the neck, and is confounded ! And Moab shall be a derision, and an example to all round about him. |
| 40 Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Voici, il volera comme l'aigle, et il étendra ses ailes sur (vers) Moab. | 40 Thus saith the Lord: Behold he shall fly as an eagle, and shall stretch forth his wings to Moab. |
| 41 Carioth est prise, les fortifications sont emportées ; et le cœur des héros (forts) de Moab sera en ce jour-là comme le cœur d'une femme en travail. | 41 Carioth is taken, and the strong holds are won: and the heart of the valiant men of Moab in that day shall be as the heart of a woman in labour. |
| 42 Et Moab cessera d'être un peuple, parce qu'il s'est glorifié contre le Seigneur. | 42 And Moab shall cease to be a people : because he hath gloried against the Lord. |
| 43 La frayeur, la fosse et le filet sont sur toi, ô habitant de Moab, dit le Seigneur. | 43 Fear, and the pit, and the snare come upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the Lord. |
| 44 Celui qui aura fui devant la frayeur tombera dans la fosse, et celui qui se sera tiré de la fosse sera pris par le filet ; car je ferai venir sur Moab l'année où je le visiterai, dit le Seigneur. | 44 He that shall flee from the fear, shall fall into the pit: and he that shall get up out of the pit, shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon Moab the year of their visitation, saith the Lord. |
| 45 Ceux qui fuyaient le filet se sont arrêtés à l'ombre d'Hésébon ; mais un feu est sorti d'Hésébon, et une flamme du milieu de Séon, et elle a dévoré une partie de Moab, et le sommet (de la tête) des fils du tumulte. | 45 They that fled from the snare stood in the shadow of Hesebon: but there came a fire out of Kesebon, and a flame out of the midst of Seen, and it shall devour part of Moab. and the crown of the head of the children of tumult. |
| 46 Malheur à toi, Moab ! Tu es perdu (as péri), peuple de Chamos, car tes fils ont été saisis, et tes filles emmenées en captivité. | 46 Woe to thee, Moab, thou hast perished, O people of Chamos: for thy sons, and thy daughters are taken captives. |
| 47 Mais je ramènerai les captifs de Moab aux derniers jours, dit le Seigneur. Jusqu'ici (vont) les jugements contre Moab. | 47 And I will bring back the captivity of Moab in the last days, saith the Lord. Hitherto the judgments of Moab. |
