| 1 Le Seigneur dit ensuite : Fais-toi deux tables de pierre qui soient comme les premières, et j'y écrirai les paroles qui étaient sur les tables que tu as brisées. | 1 And after this he said: Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the former, and I will write upon them the words which were in the tables, which thou brokest. |
| 2 Sois prêt dès le matin pour monter aussitôt sur la montagne du Sinaï, et tu demeureras avec moi sur le haut de la montagne. | 2 Be ready in the morning, that thou mayst forthwith go up into mount Sinai, and thou shalt stand with me upon the top of the mount. |
| 3 Que personne ne monte avec toi, et que nul ne paraisse sur toute la montagne ; que les bœufs mêmes et les brebis ne paissent point vis-à-vis. | 3 Let no man go up with thee: and let not any man be seen throughout all the mount: neither let the oxen nor the sheep feed over against it. |
| 4 Moïse tailla donc deux tables de pierre, telles qu'étaient les premières, et, se levant avant le jour, il monta sur la montagne du Sinaï, portant avec lui les tables, selon que le Seigneur le lui avait ordonné. | 4 Then he cut out two tables of stone, such as had been before: and rising very early he went up into the mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, carrying with him the tables. |
| 5 Alors le Seigneur étant descendu au milieu de la nuée, Moïse demeura avec lui, et il invoqua le nom du Seigneur. | 5 And when the Lord was come down in a cloud, Moses stood with him, calling upon the name of the Lord. |
| 6 Et lorsque le Seigneur passait devant Moïse, il dit : Dominateur souverain (, Seigneur), Seigneur Dieu, qui êtes plein de compassion et de clémence (miséricordieux et clément), patient, riche en miséricorde et (très) véritable ; | 6 And when he passed before him, he said: O the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, patient and of much compassion, and true, |
| 7 qui conservez votre miséricorde jusqu'à mille générations (pour des milliers de créatures), qui effacez l'iniquité, les crimes et les péchés ; devant lequel nul n'est innocent par lui-même, et qui rendez l'iniquité des pères aux enfants et aux petits-enfants jusqu'à la troisième et la quatrième génération. | 7 Who keepest mercy unto thousands: who takest away iniquity, and wickedness, and sin, and no man of himself is innocent before thee. Who renderest the iniquity of the fathers to the children, and to the grandchildren, unto the third and fourth generation. |
| 8 En cet instant, Moïse se prosterna contre terre, et, adorant Dieu, | 8 And Moses making haste, bowed down prostrate unto the earth, and adoring, |
| 9 il dit : Seigneur, si j'ai trouvé grâce devant vous, marchez, je vous supplie, (de marcher) avec nous, puisque ce peuple a la tête dure (d'un cou roide) ; effacez nos iniquités et nos péchés, et possédez-nous comme votre héritage. | 9 Said: If I have found grace in thy sight: O Lord, I beseech thee, that thou wilt go with us, (for it is a stiffnecked people,) and take away our iniquities and sin, and possess us. |
| 10 Le Seigneur lui répondit : Je ferai alliance avec ce peuple à la vue de tout le monde ; je ferai des prodiges (signes) qui n'ont jamais été vus sur la terre ni dans aucune nation, afin que ce peuple au milieu duquel tu es considère l'œuvre terrible que doit faire le Seigneur. | 10 The Lord answered: I will make a covenant in the sight of all. I will do signs such as were never seen upon the earth, nor in any nation: that this people, in the midst of whom thou art, may see the terrible work of the Lord which I will do. |
| 11 Garde toutes les choses que je t'ordonne aujourd'hui. Je chasserai moi-même devant toi les Amorrhéens, les Chananéens, les Héthéens, les Phérézéens, les Hévéens et les Jébuséens. | 11 Observe all things which this day I command thee: I myself will drive out before thy face the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Hethite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite. |
| 12 Prends garde de ne jamais faire amitié avec les habitants de ce pays, ce qui causerait ta ruine ; | 12 Beware thou never join in friendship with the inhabitants of that land, which may be thy ruin: |
| 13 mais détruis tous leurs autels, brise leurs statues, coupe leurs bois (con)sacrés à leurs dieux. | 13 But destroy their altars, break their statues, and cut down their groves: |
| 14 N'adore point de dieu étranger. Le Seigneur s'appelle le Dieu jaloux ; Dieu veut être aimé uniquement. | 14 Adore not any strange god. The Lord his name is Jealous, he is a jealous God. |
| 15 Ne fais point d'alliance avec les habitants de ce pays-là, de peur que lorsqu'ils se seront corrompus avec leurs dieux et qu'ils auront adoré leurs statues, quelqu'un d'entre eux ne t'invite à manger des viandes (qu'il leur aura) immolées. | 15 Make no covenant with the men of those countries lest, when they have committed fornication with their gods, and have adored their idols, some one call thee to eat of the things sacrificed. |
| 16 Tu ne feras point épouser leurs filles à tes fils, de peur qu'après qu'elles se seront corrompues elles-mêmes, elles ne portent tes fils à se corrompre aussi comme elles avec leurs dieux. | 16 Neither shalt thou take of their daughters a wife for thy son, lest after they themselves have committed fornication, they make thy sons also to commit fornication with their gods. |
| 17 Tu ne te feras point de dieux jetés en fonte. | 17 Thou shalt not make to thyself any molten gods. |
| 18 Tu observeras la fête solennelle des pains sans levain. Tu mangeras, sept jours durant, des pains sans levain, au mois des nouveaux fruits, comme je te l'ai ordonné ; car tu es sorti de l'Egypte au mois où commence le printemps. | 18 Thou shalt keep the feast of the unleavened bread. Seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee in the time of the month of the new corn: for in the month of the springtime thou camest out from Egypt. |
| 19 Tout mâle qui sort le premier du sein de sa mère sera à moi ; les premiers de tous les animaux, tant des bœufs que des brebis, seront à moi. | 19 All of the male kind, that openeth the womb, shall be mine. Of all beasts, both of oxen and of sheep, it shall be mine. |
| 20 Tu rachèteras avec une brebis le premier-né de l'âne ; si tu ne le rachètes point, tu le tueras. Tu rachèteras le premier-né de tes fils, et tu ne paraîtras point devant moi les mains vides. | 20 The firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a sheep: but if thou wilt not give a price for it, it shall be slain. The firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem: neither shalt thou appear before me empty. |
| 21 Tu travailleras pendant six jours, et le septième jour tu cesseras de labourer la terre et de moissonner. | 21 Six days shalt thou work, the seventh day thou shalt cease to plough, and to reap. |
| 22 Tu célébreras la fête solennelle des semaines en offrant (à l'époque) des prémices des fruits de la moisson de froment, et tu feras la fête de la récolte des fruits à la fin de l'année, lorsqu'on les aura tous recueillis. | 22 Thou shalt keep the feast of weeks with the firstfruits of the corn of thy wheat harvest, and the feast when the time of the year returneth that all things are laid in. |
| 23 Tous tes enfants mâles se présenteront trois fois l'année devant le Seigneur tout-puissant, le Dieu d'Israël. | 23 Three times in a year all thy males shall appear in the sight of the Almighty Lord the God of Israel. |
| 24 Car lorsque j'aurai chassé les nations de devant ta face et que j'aurai étendu les limites de ton pays, si tu montes et si tu te présentes trois fois l'année devant le Seigneur ton Dieu, nul ne formera des entreprises secrètes contre ton pays (ta terre). | 24 For when I shall have taken away the nations from thy face, and shall have enlarged thy borders, no man shall lie in wait against thy land when thou shalt go up, and appear in the sight of the Lord thy God thrice in a year. |
| 25 Tu ne m'offriras point avec du levain le sang de la victime qui m'est immolée, et il ne restera rien de l'hostie de la fête solennelle de la Pâque jusqu'au (le) matin. | 25 Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice upon leaven: neither shall there remain in the morning any thing of the victim of the solemnity of the Lord. |
| 26 Tu offriras les prémices des fruits de ta terre dans la maison du Seigneur ton Dieu. Tu ne feras point cuire le chevreau dans le lait de sa mère. | 26 The first of the fruits of thy ground thou shalt offer in the house of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in the milk of his dam. |
| 27 Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse : Ecris pour toi ces paroles, par lesquelles j'ai fait alliance avec toi et avec Israël. | 27 And the Lord said to Moses: Write these words by which I have made a covenant both with thee and with Israel. |
| 28 Moïse demeura donc quarante jours et quarante nuits avec le Seigneur sur la montagne. Il ne mangea point de pain et il ne but point d'eau pendant ce temps, et le Seigneur écrivit sur les tables les dix paroles de l'alliance. | 28 And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights: he neither ate bread nor drank water, and he wrote upon the tables the ten words of the covenant. |
| 29 Après cela, Moïse descendit de la montagne du Sinaï, portant les deux tables du témoignage, et il ne savait pas que de l'entretien qu'il avait eu avec le Seigneur, il était resté des rayons de lumière sur son visage (sa face était rayonnante de lumière). | 29 And when Moses came down from the mount Sinai, he held the two tables of the testimony, and he knew not that his face was horned from the conversation of the Lord. |
| 30 Mais Aaron et les enfants d'Israël, voyant que le visage de Moïse jetait des rayons, craignirent d'approcher de lui. | 30 And Aaron and the children of Israel seeing the face of Moses horned, were afraid to come near. |
| 31 Moïse appela donc Aaron et les princes de la synagogue, qui revinrent le trouver. Et après qu'il leur eut parlé, | 31 And being called by him, they returned, both Aaron and the rulers of the congregation. And after that he spoke to them. |
| 32 tous les enfants d'Israël vinrent aussi vers lui, et il leur prescrivit toutes les choses qu'il avait entendues du Seigneur sur la montagne du (de) Sinaï. | 32 And all the children of Israel came to him: and he gave them in commandment all that he had heard of the Lord in mount Sinai. |
| 33 Quand il eut achevé de leur parler, il mit un voile sur son visage. | 33 And having done speaking, he put a veil upon his face. |
| 34 Lorsqu'il entrait dans le tabernacle et qu'il parlait avec le Seigneur, il ôtait ce voile jusqu'à ce qu'il en sortît, et il rapportait ensuite aux enfants d'Israël toutes les choses que Dieu lui avait commandé de leur dire. | 34 But when he went in to the Lord, and spoke with him, he took it away until he came forth, and then he spoke to the children of Israel all things that had been commanded him. |
| 35 Lorsque Moïse sortait du tabernacle, les Israélites voyaient que son visage jetait des rayons ; mais il le voilait de nouveau toutes les fois qu'il (avait à) leur parlait (parler). | 35 And they saw that the face of Moses when he came out was horned, but he covered his face again, if at any time he spoke to them. |
