Proverbi 25

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Anche questi sono proverbi di Salomone, che hanno trascritto gli uomini di Ezechia, re di Giuda.	1 These also are proverbs of Solomon. The men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transmitted them.
2 E' gloria per Dio nascondere una cosa, ma è gloria per i re penetrarla.	2 God has glory in what he conceals, kings have glory in what they fathom.
3 I cieli sono in alto, la terra in basso e il cuore dei re sono impenetrabili.	3 As the heavens in height, and the earth in depth, the heart of kings is unfathomable.
4 Togli le scorie dall'argento e ne uscirà un vaso per mezzo dell'orefice;	4 Remove the dross from silver, and it comes forth perfectly purified;
5 togli l'empio dalla faccia del sovrano e nella giustizia si consolida il suo trono.	5 Remove the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne is made firm through righteousness.
6 Non ti gloriare davanti al re e al posto coi grandi non ti mettere;	6 Claim no honor in the king's presence, nor occupy the place of great men;
7 perché è meglio ti si dica: "Sali qua!" che essere abbassato davanti al principe.	7 For it is better that you be told, "Come up closer!" than that you be humbled before the prince.
8 Ciò che i tuoi occhi han visto non mostrarlo troppo in fretta nel processo; cosa farai infatti alla fine quando il tuo avversario ti avrà smentito?	8 What your eyes have seen bring not forth hastily against an opponent; For what will you do later on when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Risolvi la tua lite col tuo prossimo, ma senza rivelare ad altri il segreto,	9 Discuss your case with your neighbor, but another man's secret do not disclose;
10 perché, sapendolo, non ti vituperi e tu ci perda la reputazione.	10 Lest, hearing it, he reproach you, and your ill repute cease not.
11 Pomi d'oro con intarsi d'argento è una parola detta al tempo giusto;	11 Like golden apples in silver settings are words spoken at the proper time.
12 un anello d'oro o una collana d'oro fino è il rimprovero del saggio per un orecchio attento.	12 Like a golden earring, or a necklace of fine gold, is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.
13 Come il fresco della neve al tempo della messe è un messaggero fedele per chi l'ha inviato; egli ravviva l'anima del suo signore.	13 Like the coolness of snow in the heat of the harvest is a faithful messenger for the one who sends him. (He refreshes the soul of his master.)
14 Nuvole e vento e niente pioggia: tal è chi promette un regalo e non lo fa.	14 Like clouds and wind when no rain follows is the man who boastfully promises what he never gives.
15 Con la pazienza si placa un principe e una lingua delicata spezza le ossa.	15 By patience is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.
16 Hai trovato il miele: mangiane il necessario; perché tu non ti impinzi e debba vomitarlo.	16 If you find honey, eat only what you need, lest you become glutted with it and vomit it up.
17 Trattieni il piede dalla casa del tuo prossimo, ché non si stufi di te e ti disprezzi.	17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he have more than enough of you, and hate you.
18 Mazza, spada, freccia appuntita: l'uomo che testimonia il falso contro il prossimo.	18 Like a club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow, is the man who bears false witness against his neighbor.
19 Dente cariato e piede sciancato è il traditore nel giorno dell'angustia,	19 Like an infected tooth or an unsteady foot is (dependence on) a faithless man in time of trouble.
20 chi toglie il mantello in un giorno di freddo. Aceto in una piaga è cantare canzoni a un cuore afflitto.	20 Like a moth in clothing, or a maggot in wood, sorrow gnaws at the human heart.
21 Se il tuo nemico ha fame, dagli da mangiare e se ha sete, dagli da bere;	21 If your enemy be hungry, give him food to eat, if he be thirsty, give him to drink;
22 così tu ammassi carboni ardenti sul suo capo e il Signore ti ricompenserà.	22 For live coals you will heap on his head, and the LORD will vindicate you.
23 La tramontana genera la pioggia, la faccia irritata una lingua indiscreta.	23 The north wind brings rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.
24 E' meglio abitare sotto l'angolo di un tetto che con una donna litigiosa in una stessa casa.	24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.
25 Acqua fresca per una gola assetata: una buona notizia da una terra lontana.	25 Like cool water to one faint from thirst is good news from a far country.
26 Una sorgente torbida e una fontana inquinata è il giusto che tentenna davanti all'empio.	26 Like a troubled fountain or a polluted spring is a just man who gives way before the wicked.
27 Mangiare troppo miele non è bene; risparmia dunque parole lusinghiere.	27 To eat too much honey is not good; nor to seek honor after honor.
28 Una città aperta senza mura: l'uomo che non sa dominare il proprio spirito.	28 Like an open city with no defenses is the man with no check on his feelings.
