| 1 En aquella ocasión me dijo el Señor: “Talla dos tablas de piedra como las primeras y sube a mí, a la montaña; luego, haz un arca de madera. | 1 "At that time the LORD said to me, 'Cut two tablets of stone like the former; then come up the mountain to me. Also make an ark of wood. |
| 2 Yo escribiré en las tablas las palabras que había en las tablas primeras, que tú has roto, y las pondrás en el arca”. | 2 I will write upon the tablets the commandments that were on the former tablets that you broke, and you shall place them in the ark.' |
| 3 Hice, pues, un arca de madera de acacia, tallé dos tablas de piedra como las primeras y subí a la montaña con las dos tablas en la mano. | 3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the former, and went up the mountain carrying the two tablets. |
| 4 El Señor escribió en las tablas, con la misma escritura que la primera vez, las “diez palabras” que el Señor os había proclamado en la montaña, desde el fuego, el día de la asamblea, y me las dio. | 4 The LORD then wrote on them, as he had written before, the ten commandments which he spoke to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. After the LORD had given them to me, |
| 5 Yo me volví y bajé de la montaña, deposité las tablas en el arca que había hecho y allí quedaron, como me había mandado el Señor. | 5 I turned and came down the mountain, and placed the tablets in the ark I had made. There they have remained, in keeping with the command the LORD gave me. |
| 6 Los hijos de Israel partieron de los pozos de Bene Jacán hacia Moserá. Allí murió Aarón y allí fue enterrado. Su hijo Eleazar le sucedió en el sacerdocio. | 6 (The Israelites set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan for Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried, his son Eleazar succeeding him in the priestly office. |
| 7 De allí partieron para Gudgod y de Gudgod hacia Yotbá, región de torrentes. | 7 From there they set out for Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah for Jotbathah, a region where there is water in the wadies.) |
| 8 El Señor apartó entonces a la tribu de Leví para llevar el Arca de la Alianza del Señor, para estar en presencia del Señor, para servirle y bendecir en su nombre, hasta el día de hoy. | 8 "At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to be in attendance before the LORD and minister to him, and to give blessings in his name, as they have done to this day. |
| 9 Por eso, Leví no recibió parte en la heredad de sus hermanos, sino que el Señor es su heredad, como le dijo el Señor, tu Dios. | 9 For this reason, Levi has no share in the heritage with his brothers; the LORD himself is his heritage, as the LORD, your God, has told him. |
| 10 Yo permanecí en la montaña cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, como la vez anterior. También esta vez me escuchó el Señor y no quiso destruirte. | 10 "After I had spent these other forty days and forty nights on the mountain, and the LORD had once again heard me and decided not to destroy you, |
| 11 El Señor me dijo: “Levántate y disponte a partir al frente del pueblo, para que entren y tomen posesión de la tierra que juré a tus padres que les daría”. | 11 he said to me, 'Go now and set out at the head of your people, that they may enter in and occupy the land which I swore to their fathers I would give them.' |
| 12 Ahora Israel ¿qué te pide el Señor, tu Dios, sino que temas al Señor, tu Dios, siguiendo todos sus caminos, y que le ames y que sirvas al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma, | 12 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD, your God, ask of you but to fear the LORD, your God, and follow his ways exactly, to love and serve the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul, |
| 13 observando los preceptos del Señor y los mandatos que yo te mando hoy, para tu bien? | 13 to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD which I enjoin on you today for your own good? |
| 14 Cierto: del Señor son los cielos, hasta el último cielo, la tierra y todo cuanto la habita. | 14 Think! The heavens, even the highest heavens, belong to the LORD, your God, as well as the earth and everything on it. |
| 15 Mas solo de vuestros padres se enamoró el Señor, los amó, y de su descendencia os escogió a vosotros entre todos los pueblos, como sucede hoy. | 15 Yet in his love for your fathers the LORD was so attached to them as to choose you, their descendants, in preference to all other peoples, as indeed he has now done. |
| 16 Circuncidad vuestro corazón, no endurezcáis vuestra cerviz, | 16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and be no longer stiff-necked. |
| 17 pues el Señor, vuestro Dios es Dios de dioses y Señor de señores, el Dios grande, fuerte y terrible, que no es parcial ni acepta soborno, | 17 For the LORD, your God, is the God of gods, the LORD of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who has no favorites, accepts no bribes; |
| 18 que hace justicia al huérfano y a la viuda, y que ama al emigrante, dándole pan y vestido. | 18 who executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and befriends the alien, feeding and clothing him. |
| 19 Amaréis al emigrante, porque emigrantes fuisteis en Egipto. | 19 So you too must befriend the alien, for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt. |
| 20 Temerás al Señor, tu Dios, le servirás, te adherirás a él y en su nombre jurarás. | 20 The LORD, your God, shall you fear, and him shall you serve; hold fast to him and swear by his name. |
| 21 Él es tu alabanza y él es tu Dios, que hizo a tu favor las terribles hazañas que tus ojos han visto. | 21 He is your glory, he, your God, who has done for you those great and terrible things which your own eyes have seen. |
| 22 Setenta eran tus padres cuando bajaron a Egipto, y ahora el Señor, tu Dios, te ha hecho numeroso como las estrellas del cielo. | 22 Your ancestors went down to Egypt seventy strong, and now the LORD, your God, has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky. |
