| 1 El año doce de Ajaz, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Oseas, hijo de Elá, en Samaría, sobre Israel. Reinó nueve años. | 1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel, and he reigned nine years. |
| 2 Hizo el mal a los ojos del Señor, aunque no tanto como los reyes de Israel que le precedieron. | 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him. |
| 3 Salmanasar, rey de Asiria, marchó contra Oseas; este se hizo vasallo suyo y le pagaba tributo. | 3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his vassal, and paid him tribute. |
| 4 Pero el rey de Asiria descubrió a Oseas en acto de traición, pues había despachado mensajeros a So, rey de Egipto, y había dejado de pagar tributo al rey de Asiria como en años anteriores. Entonces el rey asirio arrestó a Oseas, lo metió en la cárcel y lo encadenó. | 4 But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year; therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison. |
| 5 Avanzó luego el rey de Asiria contra todo el país, comenzando por Samaría, a la que puso sitio durante tres años, | 5 Then the king of Assyria invaded all the land and came to Samaria, and for three years he besieged it. |
| 6 hasta que, el año noveno de Oseas, el rey de Asiria la conquistó. Deportó a Israel a Asiria y lo estableció en Jalaj, en el Jabor, río de Gozán, así como en las ciudades de los medos. | 6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. |
| 7 Esto sucedió porque los hijos de Israel habían pecado contra el Señor, su Dios, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto, sustrayéndolos a la mano del faraón, rey de Egipto; porque dieron culto a otros dioses y | 7 And this was so, because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods |
| 8 siguieron las costumbres de aquellas naciones que el Señor había expulsado ante ellos. | 8 and walked in the customs of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs which the kings of Israel had introduced. |
| 9 Los hijos de Israel cometieron acciones torcidas contra el Señor, su Dios, edificándose santuarios en todas sus poblaciones, desde las atalayas de vigía hasta las ciudades amuralladas. | 9 And the people of Israel did secretly against the LORD their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places at all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city; |
| 10 Se erigieron también estelas y cipos sagrados sobre toda colina elevada y bajo todo árbol frondoso. | 10 they set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree; |
| 11 Allí quemaban incienso, en todo lugar de culto, al modo de los pueblos paganos, a los que el Señor había expulsado ante ellos. Obraron mal, irritando al Señor, | 11 and there they burned incense on all the high places, as the nations did whom the LORD carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the LORD to anger, |
| 12 dando culto a los ídolos, cuando el Señor les había dicho: «No haréis tal cosa». | 12 and they served idols, of which the LORD had said to them, "You shall not do this." |
| 13 Pues el Señor había advertido a Israel y a Judá, por boca de todos los profetas y videntes: «Convertíos de vuestros malos caminos y guardad mis mandamientos y decretos, conforme a la ley que prescribí a vuestros padres y que les transmití por mano de mis siervos los profetas». | 13 Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets." |
| 14 Pero no hicieron caso, manteniendo dura la cerviz como habían hecho sus padres, que no confiaron en el Señor, su Dios. | 14 But they would not listen, but were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the LORD their God. |
| 15 Despreciaron así sus leyes y la alianza que estableció con sus padres, tanto como las exigencias que les impuso. Fueron tras dioses que eran nada y se volvieron nada, al imitar a las naciones de alrededor, cuando el Señor les había prescrito no actuar como ellas. | 15 They despised his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and the warnings which he gave them. They went after false idols, and became false, and they followed the nations that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had commanded them that they should not do like them. |
| 16 Abandonaron todos los mandamientos del Señor, su Dios, y se hicieron los ídolos fundidos de los dos becerros y el cipo sagrado. Se postraron también ante todo el ejército de los cielos y rindieron culto a Baal. | 16 And they forsook all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made for themselves molten images of two calves; and they made an Asherah, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. |
| 17 Arrojaron sus hijos e hijas a la pira de fuego, consultaron los augurios y practicaron la adivinación. Por dinero se prestaron a hacer el mal a los ojos del Señor, hasta el punto de encender su ira. | 17 And they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings, and used divination and sorcery, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger. |
| 18 Y se encolerizó el Señor sobremanera contra Israel, apartándolos de su presencia. Solo quedó la tribu de Judá. | 18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight; none was left but the tribe of Judah only. |
| 19 Pero tampoco Judá guardó los mandamientos del Señor, su Dios, al seguir las costumbres que Israel había practicado. | 19 Judah also did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the customs which Israel had introduced. |
| 20 Rechazó por eso el Señor la descendencia de Israel, los humilló y entregó en manos de saqueadores, hasta arrojarlos de su presencia. | 20 And the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. |
| 21 Porque Israel se había desgajado de la casa de David haciendo rey a Jeroboán, hijo de Nebat, quien provocó que Israel se alejara del Señor y cometiese un gran pecado. | 21 When he had torn Israel from the house of David they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Jeroboam drove Israel from following the LORD and made them commit great sin. |
| 22 Luego los hijos de Israel persistieron en todos los pecados en los que Jeroboán había incurrido; no se apartaron de ellos. | 22 The people of Israel walked in all the sins which Jeroboam did; they did not depart from them, |
| 23 Así fue como el Señor apartó a Israel de su presencia, según había advertido por medio de todos sus siervos los profetas, y deportó a Israel lejos de su tierra, a Asiria, hasta el día de hoy. | 23 until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had spoken by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their own land to Assyria until this day. |
| 24 El rey de Asiria hizo venir gentes de Babilonia, de Cutá, de Avá, de Jamat y de Sefarvaín para establecerlos en las poblaciones de Samaría, en lugar de los hijos de Israel, y ellos tomaron posesión de Samaría y habitaron sus ciudades. | 24 And the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sephar-vaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the people of Israel; and they took possession of Samaria, and dwelt in its cities. |
| 25 Cuando se establecieron allí, no conocían el culto del Señor y el Señor soltó leones que causaban muertos entre ellos. | 25 And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they did not fear the LORD; therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which killed some of them. |
| 26 Entonces dijeron al rey de Asiria: «Las gentes paganas que has deportado y establecido en las poblaciones de Samaría no conocen las reglas del dios de la tierra y este ha soltado leones que los están matando, porque no conocen las reglas del dios de la tierra». | 26 So the king of Assyria was told, "The nations which you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land; therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land." |
| 27 Y el rey de Asiria dio orden: «Enviad a uno de los sacerdotes que habéis deportado. Que vaya a establecerse allí y les enseñe las reglas del dios de la tierra». | 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, "Send there one of the priests whom you carried away thence; and let him go and dwell there, and teach them the law of the god of the land." |
| 28 De tal manera, uno de los sacerdotes deportados de Samaría fue a establecerse en Betel y les instruyó sobre cómo dar culto al Señor. | 28 So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD. |
| 29 Sin embargo, cada uno de aquellos pueblos paganos continuaba fabricando sus propios dioses y los instalaban en los santuarios que habían construido los samaritanos; cada grupo los ponía en las poblaciones que habitaba. | 29 But every nation still made gods of its own, and put them in the shrines of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in the cities in which they dwelt; |
| 30 Así las gentes de Babilonia hacían unos Sucot Benot, las de Cutá un Nergal, las de Jamat un Asimá, | 30 the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima, |
| 31 los eveos un Nibjás y un Tartac, y los sefarvitas quemaban a sus hijos en honor de Adramélec y Anamélec, sus dioses. | 31 and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sephar-vaim. |
| 32 También daban culto al Señor y nombraron entre ellos sacerdotes para los santuarios que oficiaban en los lugares de culto. | 32 They also feared the LORD, and appointed from among themselves all sorts of people as priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places. |
| 33 Servían a la vez al Señor y a sus dioses, según las costumbres de las naciones de las que habían sido deportados | 33 So they feared the LORD but also served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away. |
| 34 y, hasta el día de hoy, han seguido practicando sus ritos antiguos.No rinden culto al Señor y no siguen sus preceptos y sus ritos, la doctrina y la ley que mandó el Señor a los hijos de Jacob, al que puso el nombre de Israel. | 34 To this day they do according to the former manner. They do not fear the LORD, and they do not follow the statutes or the ordinances or the law or the commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel. |
| 35 Pues el Señor había hecho una alianza con ellos mediante el siguiente mandato: «No daréis culto a otros dioses, no os postraréis ante ellos, no les serviréis ni ofreceréis sacrificios. | 35 The LORD made a covenant with them, and commanded them, "You shall not fear other gods or bow yourselves to them or serve them or sacrifice to them; |
| 36 Rendiréis culto únicamente al Señor, que os trajo de la tierra de Egipto con gran fuerza y con su brazo extendido; os postraréis ante él y a él ofreceréis sacrificios. | 36 but you shall fear the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm; you shall bow yourselves to him, and to him you shall sacrifice. |
| 37 Habéis de guardar los preceptos, los ritos, la doctrina y la ley que os di por escrito, cumpliéndolos todos los días, y no habéis de dar culto a otros dioses. | 37 And the statutes and the ordinances and the law and the commandment which he wrote for you, you shall always be careful to do. You shall not fear other gods, |
| 38 No olvidéis la alianza que hice con vosotros; no deis culto a otros dioses. | 38 and you shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods, |
| 39 Pues solo al Señor vuestro Dios rendiréis culto y él os librará de las manos de todos vuestros enemigos». | 39 but you shall fear the LORD your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies." |
| 40 Mas ellos no obedecieron, sino que persistían en sus antiguos ritos. | 40 However they would not listen, but they did according to their former manner. |
| 41 Así daban culto aquellas gentes al Señor, pero servían también a sus ídolos y, hasta el día de hoy sus hijos y los hijos de sus hijos han seguido actuando como lo hicieron sus padres. | 41 So these nations feared the LORD, and also served their graven images; their children likewise, and their children's children--as their fathers did, so they do to this day. |
