1 Madrugó Yerubbaal (o sea Gedeón), así como todo el pueblo que estaba con él, y acampó junto a En Jarod; el campamento de Madián quedaba al norte del suyo, al pie de la colina de Moré, en el valle.	1 Early the next morning Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) encamped by Enharod with all his soldiers. The camp of Midian was in the valley north of Gibeath-hammoreh.
2 Yahveh dijo a Gedeón: «Demasiado numeroso es el pueblo que te acompaña para que ponga yo a Madián en sus manos; no se vaya a enorgullecer Israel de ello a mi costa diciendo: “¡Mi propia mano me ha salvado!”	2 The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many soldiers with you for me to deliver Midian into their power, lest Israel vaunt itself against me and say, 'My own power brought me the victory.'
3 Ahora pues, pregona esto a oídos del pueblo: “El que tenga miedo y tiemble, que se vuelva y mire desde el monte Gelboé”. 22.000 hombres de la tropa se volvieron y quedaron 10.000.	3 Now proclaim to all the soldiers, 'If anyone is afraid or fearful, let him leave.'" When Gideon put them to this test on the mountain, twenty-two thousand of the soldiers left, but ten thousand remained.
4 Yahveh dijo a Gedeón: «Hay todavía demasiada gente; hazles bajar al agua y allí te los pondré a prueba. Aquel de quien te diga: “Que vaya contigo”, ése irá contigo. Y aquel de quien te diga: “Que no vaya contigo”, no ha de ir».	4 The LORD said to Gideon, "There are still too many soldiers. Lead them down to the water and I will test them for you there. If I tell you that a certain man is to go with you, he must go with you. But no one is to go if I tell you he must not."
5 Gedeón hizo bajar la gente al agua y Yahveh le dijo: «A todos los que lamieren el agua con la lengua como lame un perro, los pondrás a un lado y a todos los que se arrodillen para beber, los pondrás al otro».	5 When Gideon led the soldiers down to the water, the LORD said to him, "You shall set to one side everyone who laps up the water as a dog does with its tongue; to the other, everyone who kneels down to drink."
6 El número de los que lamieron el agua con las manos a la boca resultó ser de trescientos. Todo el resto del pueblo se había arrodillado para beber.	6 Those who lapped up the water raised to their mouths by hand numbered three hundred, but all the rest of the soldiers knelt down to drink the water.
7 Entonces Yahveh dijo a Gedeón: «Con los trescientos hombres que han lamido el agua os salvaré, y entregaré a Madián en tus manos. Que todos los demás vuelvan cada uno a su casa».	7 The LORD said to Gideon, "By means of the three hundred who lapped up the water I will save you and will deliver Midian into your power. So let all the other soldiers go home."
8 Tomaron en sus manos las provisiones del pueblo y sus cuernos, y mandó a todos los israelitas cada uno a su tienda, quedándose sólo con los trescientos hombres. El campamento de Madián estaba debajo del suyo en el valle.	8 Their horns, and such supplies as the soldiers had with them, were taken up, and Gideon ordered the rest of the Israelites to their tents, but kept the three hundred men. Now the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9 Aquella noche le dijo Yahveh: «Levántate y baja al campamento, porque lo he puesto en tus manos.	9 That night the LORD said to Gideon, "Go, descend on the camp, for I have delivered it up to you.
10 No obstante, si temes bajar, baja al campamento con tu criado Purá,	10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your aide Purah.
11 y escucha lo que dicen. Se fortalecerá tu mano con ello y luego bajarás a atacar al campamento. Bajó, pues, con su criado Purá hasta la extremidad de las avanzadillas del campamento.	11 When you hear what they are saying, you will have the courage to descend on the camp." So he went down with his aide Purah to the outposts of the camp.
12 Madián, Amalec y todos los hijos de Oriente habían caído sobre el valle, numerosos como langostas, y sus camellos eran innumerables como la arema de la orilla del mar.	12 The Midianites, Amalekites, and all the Kedemites lay in the valley, as numerous as locusts. Nor could their camels be counted, for these were as many as the sands on the seashore.
13 Se acercó Gedeón y he aquí que un hombre contaba un sueño a su vecino; decía: «He tenido un sueño: una hogaza de pan de cebada rodaba por el campamento de Madián, llegó hasta la tienda, chocó contra ella y la volcó lo de arriba abajo».	13 When Gideon arrived, one man was telling another about a dream. "I had a dream," he said, "that a round loaf of barley bread was rolling into the camp of Midian. It came to our tent and struck it, and as it fell it turned the tent upside down."
14 Su vecino le respondió: «Esto no puede significar más que la espada de Gedeón, hijo de Joás, el israelita. Dios ha entregado en sus manos a Madián y a todo el campamento».	14 "This can only be the sword of the Israelite Gideon, son of Joash," the other replied. "God has delivered Midian and all the camp into his power."
15 Cuando Gedeón oyó la narración del sueño y su explicación, se postró, volvió al campamento de Israel y dijo: «¡Levantaos! porque Yahveh ha puesto en vuestras manos el campamento de Madián».	15 When Gideon heard the description and explanation of the dream, he prostrated himself. Then returning to the camp of Israel, he said, "Arise, for the LORD has delivered the camp of Midian into your power."
16 Gedeón dividió a los trescientos hombres en tres cuerpos. Les dio a todos cuernos y cántaros vacíos, con antorchas dentro de los cántaros.	16 He divided the three hundred men into three companies, and provided them all with horns and with empty jars and torches inside the jars.
17 Les dijo: «Miradme a mí y haced lo mismo. Cuando llegue yo al extremo del campamento, lo que yo haga lo haréis vosotros.	17 "Watch me and follow my lead," he told them. "I shall go to the edge of the camp, and as I do, you must do also.
18 Yo y todos mis compañeros tocaremos los cuernos; vosotros también tocaréis los cuernos alrededor del campamento y gritaréis: ¡Por Yahveh y por Gedeón!»	18 When I and those with me blow horns, you too must blow horns all around the camp and cry out, 'For the LORD and for Gideon!'"
19 Gedeón y los cien hombres que le acompañaban llegaron al extremo del campamento al comienzo de la guardia de la medianoche, cuando acababan de hacer el relevo de los centinelas; tocaron los cuernos y rompieron los cántaros que llevaban en la mano.	19 So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after the posting of the guards. They blew the horns and broke the jars they were holding.
20 Entonces los tres cuerpos del ejército tocaron los cuernos, y rompieron los cántaros; en la izquierda tenían las antorchas y en la derecha los cuernos para tocarlos; gritaban: «Espada por Yahveh y por Gedeón!»	20 All three companies blew horns and broke their jars. They held the torches in their left hands, and in their right the horns they were blowing, and cried out, "A sword for the LORD and Gideon!"
21 Y se quedaron quietos cada uno en su lugar alrededor del campamento. Todo el campamento se despertó y, lanzando alaridos, se dieron a la fuga.	21 They all remained standing in place around the camp, while the whole camp fell to running and shouting and fleeing.
22 Mientras los trescientos tocaban los cuernos, Yahveh volvió la espada de cada uno contra su compañero por todo el campamento. La tropa huyó hasta Bet Hassittá, hacia Sartán, hasta la orilla de Abel Mejolá frente a Tabbat.	22 But the three hundred men kept blowing the horns, and throughout the camp the LORD set the sword of one against another. The army fled as far as Beth-shittah in the direction of Zarethan, near the border of Abel-meholah at Tabbath.
23 Los hombres de Israel se reunieron, de Neftalí, de Aser y de todo Manasés, y persiguieron a Madián.	23 The Israelites were called to arms from Naphtali, from Asher, and from all Manasseh, and they pursued Midian.
24 Gedeón envió mensajeros por toda la montaña de Efraím diciendo: «Bajad al encuentro de Madián y cortadles los vados hasta Bet Bará y el Jordán». Se reunieron todos los hombres de Efraím y ocuparon los vados hasta Bet Bará y el Jordán.	24 Gideon also sent messengers throughout the mountain region of Ephraim to say, "Go down to confront Midian, and seize the water courses against them as far as Beth-barah, as well as the Jordan." So all the Ephraimites were called to arms, and they seized the water courses as far as Beth-barah, and the Jordan as well.
25 Hicieron prisioneros a los dos jefes de Madián, Oreb y Zeeb; mataron a Oreb en la Peña de Oreb y a Zeeb en el Lagar de Zeeb. Persiguieron a Madián y llevaron a Gedeón, al otro lado del Jordán, las cabezas de Oreb y Zeeb.	25 They captured the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, killing Oreb at the rock of Oreb and Zeeb at the wine press of Zeeb. Then they pursued Midian and carried the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.
