BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 De allí Sansón se dirigió a Gaza, vio allí una meretriz y entró donde ella.	1 Samson then went to Gaza and, seeing a prostitute there, went in to her.
2 Se dio aviso a los hombres de Gaza: «Ha venido Sansón». Ellos le rodearon y le estuvieron acechando a la puerta de la ciudad. Estuvieron quietos toda la noche pensando: «Esperemos hasta que despunte el día y lo mataremos».	2 The men of Gaza being told, 'Samson has arrived,' surrounded the place and kept watch for him thewhole night at the town gate. Al that night they were going to make no move, thinking, 'Let us wait untildaybreak, and then kil him.'
3 Sansón estuvo durmiendo hasta media noche; y a media noche se levantó, cogió las hojas de la puerta de la ciudad con sus dos jambas, las arrancó junto con la barra, se las cargó a la espalda, y las subió hasta la cumbre del monte que está frente a Hebrón.	3 Til midnight, however, Samson stayed in bed, and then at midnight he got up, seized the doors of thetown gate and the two posts as wel ; he tore them up, bar and al , hoisted them on to his shoulders and carriedthem to the top of the hill overlooking Hebron.
4 Después de esto, se enamoró de una mujer de la vaguada de Soreq, que se llamaba Dalila.	4 After this, he fell in love with a woman in the Vale of Sorek; she was called Delilah.
5 Los tiranos de los filisteos subieron donde ella y le dijeron: «Sonsácale y entérate de dónde le viene esa fuerza tan enorme, y cómo podríamos dominarlo para amarrarlo y tenerlo sujeto. Nosotros te daremos cada uno 1.100 siclos de plata».	5 The Philistine chiefs visited her and said, 'Cajole him and find out where his great strength comesfrom, and how we can master him, so that we can bind him and subdue him. In return we shall each give youeleven hundred silver shekels.'
6 Dalila dijo a Sansón: «Dime, por favor, ¿de dónde te viene esa fuerza tan grande y con qué habría que atarte para tenerte sujeto?»	6 Delilah said to Samson, 'Please tel me where your great strength comes from, and what would beneeded to bind and subdue you.'
7 Sansón le respondió: «Si me amarraran con siete cuerdas de arco todavía frescas, sin dejarlas secar, me debilitaría y sería como un hombre cualquiera».	7 Samson replied, 'If I were bound with seven new bowstrings which had not yet been dried, I shouldlose my strength and become like any other man.'
8 Los tiranos de los filisteos llevaron a Dalila siete cuerdas de arco frescas, sin secar aún, y lo amarró con ellas.	8 The Philistine chiefs brought Delilah seven new bowstrings which had not yet been dried and she tookthem and bound him with them.
9 Tenía ella hombres apostados en la alcoba y le gritó: «Los filisteos contra ti, Sansón». El rompió las cuerdas de arco como se rompe el hilo de estopa en cuanto siente el fuego. Así no se descubrió el secreto de la fuerza.	9 She had men concealed in her room, and she shouted, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' Then hesnapped the bowstrings as a strand of tow snaps at a touch of the fire. So the secret of his strength remainedunknown.
10 Entonces Dalila dijo a Sansón: «Te has reído de mí y me has dicho mentiras; dime pues, por favor, con qué habría que atarte».	10 Delilah then said to Samson, 'You have been laughing at me and tel ing me lies. But now please telme what would be needed to bind you.'
11 El le respondió: «Si me amarraran bien con cordeles nuevos sin usar, me debilitaría y sería como un hombre cualquiera».	11 He replied, 'If I were bound tightly with new ropes which have never been used, I should lose mystrength and become like any other man.'
12 Dalila cogió unos cordeles nuevos, lo amarró con ellos y le gritó: «Los filisteos contra ti, Sansón». Tenía ella hombres apostados en la alcoba, pero él rompió los cordeles de sus brazos como un hilo.	12 Delilah then took new ropes and bound him with them, and she shouted, 'The Philistines are on you,Samson!' She had men concealed in her room, but he snapped the ropes round his arms like thread.
13 Entonces Dalila dijo a Sansón: «Hasta ahora te has estado burlando de mi y no me has dicho más que mentiras. Dime con qué habría de amarrarte». El le respondió: «Si tejieras las siete trenzas de mi cabellera con la trama y las clavaras con la clavija del tejedor, me debilitaría y sería como un hombre cualquiera».	13 Delilah then said to Samson, 'Up to now you have been laughing at me and tel ing me lies. Tell mewhat would be needed to bind you.' He replied, 'If you wove the seven locks of my hair into the warp of a clothand beat them together tight with the reed, I should lose my strength and become like any other man.'
14 Ella le hizo dormir, tejió luego las siete trenzas de su cabellera con la trama, las clavó con la clavija y le gritó: «Los filisteos contra ti, Sansón». El se despertó de su sueño y arrancó la trama y la clavija. Así no se descubrió el secreto de su fuerza.	14 She lul ed him to sleep, then wove the seven locks of his hair into the warp, beat them together tightwith the reed and shouted, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' He woke from his sleep and pul ed out bothreed and warp. So the secret of his strength remained unknown.
15 Dalila le dijo: «¿Cómo puedes decir: “Te amo “, si tu corazón no está conmigo? Tres veces te has reído ya de mí y no me has dicho en qué consiste esa fuerza tan grande».	15 Delilah said to him, 'How can you say that you love me, when your heart is not with me? Three timesnow you have laughed at me and have not told me where your great strength comes from.'
16 Como todos los días le asediaba con sus palabras y le importunaba, aburrido de la vida,	16 And day after day she pestered him with her talk, nagging him til he grew sick to death of it.
17 le abrió todo su corazón y le dijo: «La navaja no ha pasado jamás por mi cabeza, porque soy nazir de Dios desde el vientre de mi madre. Si me rasuraran, mi fuerza se retiraría de mí, me debilitaría y sería como un hombre cualquiera».	17 At last he confided everything to her; he said to her, 'A razor has never touched my head, because Ihave been God's nazirite from my mother's womb. If my head were shorn, then my power would leave me and Ishould lose my strength and become like any other man.'
18 Dalila comprendió entonces que le había abierto todo su corazón, mandó llamar a los tiranos de los filisteos y les dijo: «Venid esta vez, pues me ha abierto todo su corazón». Y los tiranos de los filisteos vinieron donde ella con el dinero en la mano.	18 Delilah then realized that he had real y confided in her; she sent for the Philistine princes with themessage, 'Come just once more: he has confided everything to me.' And the Philistine chiefs came to her withthe money in their hands.
19 Ella hizo dormir a Sansón sobre sus rodillas y llamó a un hombre que le cortó las siete trenzas de su cabeza. Entonces ella comenzó a humillarlo, y se retiró de él su vigor.	19 She lul ed Samson to sleep in her lap, summoned a man and had him shear off the seven locks fromhis head. Thus for the first time she got control over him, and his strength left him.
20 Ella gritó: «Los filisteos contra ti, Sansón». El se despertó de su sueño y se dijo: «Saldré como las otras veces y me desembarazaré». No sabía que Yahveh se había apartado de él.	20 She cried, 'The Philistines are on you, Samson!' He awoke from sleep, thinking, 'I shal break free as I have done time after time and shake myself clear.' But he did not know that Yahweh had left him.
21 Los filisteos le echaron mano, le sacaron los ojos, y lo bajaron a Gaza. Allí lo ataron con una doble cadena de bronce y daba vueltas a la muela en la cárcel.	21 The Philistines seized him, put out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. They fettered him with adouble chain of bronze and he spent his time turning the mil in the prison.
22 Pero el pelo de su cabeza, nada más rapado, empezó a crecer.	22 But his hair began to grow again when it had been cut off.
23 Los tiranos de los filisteos se reunieron para ofrecer un gran sacrificio a su dios Dagón y hacer gran fiesta. Decían: «Nuestro dios ha puesto en nuestras manos a Sansón nuestro enemigo».	23 The Philistine chiefs assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god. And amid their festivitiesthey said: Into our hands our god has delivered Samson our enemy.
24 En cuanto lo vio la gente, alababa a su dios diciendo: «Nuestro dios ha puesto en nuestras manos a Sansón nuestro enemigo, al que devastaba nuestro país y multiplicaba nuestras víctimas».	24 And as soon as the people saw their god, they acclaimed him, shouting his praises: Into our handsour god has delivered Samson our enemy, the man who laid our country waste and kil ed so many of us.
25 Y como su corazón estaba alegre, dijeron: «Llamad a Sansón para que nos divierta». Trajeron, pues, a Sansón de la cárcel, y él les estuvo divirtiendo; luego lo pusieron de pie entre las columnas.	25 And as their hearts were full of joy, they shouted, 'Summon Samson out to amuse us.' So Samsonwas summoned from prison, and he performed feats in front of them; then he was put to stand between thepil ars.
26 Sansón dijo entonces al muchacho que lo llevaba de la mano: «Ponme donde pueda tocar las columnas en las que descansa la casa para que me apoye en ellas».	26 Samson then said to the boy who was leading him by the hand, 'Lead me where I can touch thepil ars supporting the building, so that I can lean against them.'
27 La casa estaba llena de hombres y mujeres. Estaban dentro todos los tiranos de los filisteos y, en el terrado, unos 3.000 hombres y mujeres comtemplando los juegos de Sansón.	27 Now the building was crowded with men and women. Al the Philistine chiefs were there, while aboutthree thousand men and women were watching Samson's feats from the terrace.
28 Sansón invocó a Yahveh y exclamó: «Señor Yahveh, dígnate acordarte de mí, hazme fuerte nada más que esta vez, oh Dios, para que de un golpe me vengue de los filisteos por mis dos ojos».	28 Samson cal ed on Yahweh and cried out, 'Lord Yahweh, I beg you, remember me; give me strengthagain this once, O God, and let me be revenged on the Philistines at one blow for my two eyes.'
29 Y Sansón palpó las dos columnas centrales sobre las que descansaba la casa, se apoyó contra ellas, en una con su brazo derecho, en la otra con el izquierdo,	29 And Samson took hold of the two central pil ars supporting the building, and braced himself with hisright arm round one and his left round the other;
30 y gritó: «¡Muera yo con los filisteos!» Apretó con todas sus fuerzas y la casa se derrumbó sobre los tiranos y sobre toda la gente allí reunida. Los muertos que mató al morir fueron más que los que había matado en vida.	30 and he shouted, 'Let me die with the Philistines!' He then heaved with al his might, and the buildingfel on the chiefs and on all the people there. Those whom he brought to their death by his death outnumberedthose whom he had done to death during his life.
31 Sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre bajaron y se lo llevaron. Lo subieron y sepultaron entre Sorá y Estaol, en el sepulcro de su padre Manóaj. Había juzgado a Israel por espacio de veinte años.	31 His brothers and the whole of his father's family came down and carried him away. They took himback and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He had judged Israel fortwenty years.
