Josué 4

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cuando todo el pueblo acabó de pasar el Jordán, Yahveh habló a Josué y le dijo:	1 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, Yahweh spoke to Joshua and said,
2 «Escoged doce hombres del pueblo, un hombre por cada tribu,	2 'Choose twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, and give them this order,
3 y dadles esta orden: “Sacad de aquí, del medio del Jordán, doce piedras, que pasaréis con vosotros y depositaréis en el lugar donde paséis la noche.”»	3 "Here, from mid-Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet were standing, take twelve stones; carrythem with you and set them down in the camp where you pass the night." '
4 Llamó Josué a los doce hombres que había elegido entre los israelitas, uno por cada tribu,	4 Joshua cal ed the twelve men whom he had selected from the Israelites, one man from each tribe,
5 y les dijo: «Pasad delante del arca de Yahveh vuestro Dios, hasta el medio del Jordán, y cada uno de vosotros cargue sobre sus hombros una piedra, según el número de las tribus israelitas,	5 and Joshua said to them, 'Go on ahead of the ark of Yahweh your God into mid-Jordan, and each ofyou take one stone on his shoulder, corresponding to the number of the tribes of Israel,
6 para que sea esto una señal en medio de vosotros; cuando el día de mañana vuestros hijos os pregunten: “¿Qué significan para vosotros estas piedras?”,	6 to make this a sign among you; and when, in the future, your children ask you, "What do these stonesmean for you?"
7 les diréis: “Es que las aguas del Jordán se separaron delante del arca de la alianza de Yahveh; cuando atravesó el Jordán, las aguas del Jordán se separaron. Estas piedras serán para los israelitas memorial para siempre.”	7 you will then tell them, "The waters of the Jordan separated before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh;when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the river separated. These stones are an everlasting reminder of thisto the Israelites."
8 Así lo hicieron los israelitas, según las órdenes de Josué: sacaron doce piedras del medio del Jordán, según el número de las tribus israelitas, como había mandado Yahveh a Josué, las llevaron al lugar donde iban a pasar la noche y las depositaron allí.	8 The Israelites did as Joshua ordered; they took twelve stones from mid-Jordan corresponding to thenumber of the tribes of Israel, as Yahweh had told Joshua; they carried them over to the camp and set themdown there.
9 Y Josué levantó doce piedras en medio del Jordán, donde habían pisado los pies de los sacerdotes portadores del arca de la alianza, y allí están todavía hoy.	9 Joshua then erected twelve stones in mid-Jordan, on the spot where the feet of the priests carrying theark of the covenant had stood; and they are stil there today.
10 Los sacerdotes portadores del arca estaban parados en medio del Jordán hasta que se cumpliera todo lo que Yahveh había mandado a Josué que dijera al pueblo (según todo lo que Moisés había ordenado a Josué); y el pueblo se apresuró a pasar.	10 The priests carrying the ark stood stil in mid-Jordan, until everything had been done that Yahweh hadordered Joshua to tel the people (in accordance with everything that Moses had ordered Joshua); and thepeople hurried across.
11 En cuanto terminó de pasar todo el pueblo, pasó el arca de Yahveh, yendo los sacerdotes a la cabeza del pueblo.	11 When the people had finished crossing, the ark of Yahweh then crossed, with the priests, to the headof the people.
12 Los rubenitas, los gaditas y la media tribu de Manasés pasaron en orden de batalla al frente de los israelitas, como les había dicho Moisés.	12 The sons of Reuben, the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed in battle formation at thehead of the Israelites, as Moses had told them.
13 Pasaron unos 40.000 guerreros armados, dispuestos al combate, delante de Yahveh, hacia la llanura de Jericó.	13 Some forty thousand warriors in arms, they crossed in Yahweh's presence, ready for battle, towardsthe plain of Jericho.
14 Aquel día Yahveh engrandeció a Josué delante de todo Israel; y le respetaron a él como habían respetado a Moisés durante toda su vida.	14 That day, Yahweh made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, who respected him as they hadrespected Moses, as long as he lived.
15 Yahveh dijo a Josué:	15 Yahweh said to Joshua,
16 «Manda a los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del Testimonio que salgan del Jordán».	16 'Order the priests carrying the ark of the Testimony to come up out of the Jordan.'
17 Josué mandó a los sacerdotes: «Salid del Jordán».	17 And Joshua gave the order to the priests, 'Come up, out of the Jordan!'
18 Cuando los sacerdotes portadores del arca de la alianza de Yahveh salieron del Jordán, apenas las plantas de sus pies tocaron la orilla, las aguas del Jordán volvieron a su cauce y empezaron a correr como antes, por todas sus riberas.	18 Now, when the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came up out of mid-Jordan, nosooner had the soles of the priests' feet touched solid ground, than the waters of the Jordan returned to their bedand ran on, in spate as before.
19 El pueblo salió del Jordán el día diez del mes primero y acamparon en Guilgal al oriente de Jericó.	19 It was the tenth day of the first month when the people came up from the Jordan and made their campat Gilgal, on the eastern border of Jericho.
20 Las doce piedras que habían sacado del Jordán las erigió Josué en Guilgal.	20 As regards those twelve stones, which they had taken from the Jordan, Joshua set them up at Gilgal.
21 Y dijo a los israelitas: «Cuando el día de mañana vuestros hijos pregunten a sus padres: “¿Qué significan estas piedras?”	21 He then said to the Israelites, 'When, in the future, your children ask their fathers, "What are thesestones?"
22 se lo explicaréis a vuestros hijos diciendo: “A pie enjuto pasó Israel ese Jordán,	22 you wil explain to your children, "Israel crossed this Jordan dry-shod.
23 porque Yahveh vuestro Dios secó delante de vosotros las aguas del Jordán hasta que pasarais, lo mismo que había hecho Yahveh vuestro Dios con el mar de Suf, que secó delante de nosotros hasta que pasamos,	23 For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan in front of you until you had crossed, just asYahweh your God did to the Sea of Reeds, which he dried up before us until we had crossed it;
24 para que todos los pueblos de la tierra reconozcan lo fuerte que es la mano de Yahveh, y para que teman siempre a Yahveh vuestro Dios.”»	24 so that al the peoples of the earth may know how mighty the hand of Yahweh is, and always stand inawe of Yahweh your God." '
