Josué 1

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Sucedió después de la muerte de Moisés, siervo de Yahveh, que habló Yahveh a Josué, hijo de Nun, y ayudante de Moisés, y le dijo:	1 When Moses, servant of Yahweh, was dead, Yahweh spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' adjutant. Hesaid,
2 «Moisés, mi siervo, ha muerto; arriba, pues; pasa ese Jordán, tú con todo este pueblo, hacia la tierra que yo les doy (a los israelitas).	2 'Moses my servant is dead; go now and cross this Jordan, you and this whole people, into the countrywhich I am giving to them (the Israelites).
3 Os doy todo lugar que sea hollado por la planta de vuestros pies, según declaré a Moisés.	3 Every place you tread with the soles of your feet I shall give you, as I declared to Moses that I would.
4 Desde el desierto y el Líbano hasta el Río grande, el Eufrates, (toda la tierra de los hititas) y hasta el mar Grande de poniente, será vuestro territorio.	4 From the desert and the Lebanon, to the Great River, the Euphrates (the entire country of the Hittites),and as far as the Great Sea to westward, is to be your territory.
5 Nadie podrá mantenerse delante de ti en todos los días de tu vida: lo mismo que estuve con Moisés estaré contigo; no te dejaré ni te abandonaré.	5 As long as you live, no one wil be able to resist you; I shal be with you as I was with Moses; I shall notfail you or desert you.
6 «Sé valiente y firme, porque tú vas a dar a este pueblo la posesión del país que juré dar a sus padres.	6 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are the man to give this people possession of the land which I sworeto their ancestors that I would give them.
7 Sé, pues, valiente y muy firme, teniendo cuidado de cumplir toda la Ley que te dio mi siervo Moisés. No te apartes de ella ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, para que tengas éxito dondequiera que vayas.	7 Only be strong and stand very firm and be careful to keep the whole Law which my servant Moses laiddown for you. Do not swerve from this either to right or to left, and then you wil succeed wherever you go.
8 No se aparte el libro de esta Ley de tus labios: medítalo día y noche; así procurarás obrar en todo conforme a lo que en él está escrito, y tendrás suerte y éxito en tus empresas.	8 Have the book of this Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may careful ykeep everything that is written in it. Then your undertakings wil prosper, then you will have success.
9 ¿No te he mandado que seas valiente y firme? No tengas miedo ni te acobardes, porque Yahveh tu Dios estará contigo dondequiera que vayas».	9 Have I not told you: Be strong and stand firm? Be fearless and undaunted, for go where you may,Yahweh your God is with you.'
10 Josué, pues, dio a los escribas del pueblo la orden siguiente:	10 Joshua then gave the people's officials this instruction:
11 «Pasad por medio del campamento y dad esta orden al pueblo: Haced provisiones, porque dentro de tres días pasaréis ese Jordán, para entrar a poseer la tierra que Yahveh vuestro Dios os da en posesión».	11 'Go through the camp and give the people this order, "Make provisions ready, for in three days' timeyou wil cross this Jordan and go on to take possession of the land which Yahweh your God is giving you as yourown." '
12 A los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la medio tribu de Manasés les habló así:	12 Joshua then said to the Reubenites and Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,
13 «Recordad la orden que os dio Moisés, siervo de Yahveh: Yahveh vuestro Dios os ha concedido descanso, dándoos esta tierra.	13 'Remember the order given you by Moses, servant of Yahweh: Yahweh your God, in bringing you torest, has given you the land where we are.
14 Vuestras mujeres, vuestros pequeños y vuestros rebaños se quedarán en la tierra que os ha dado Moisés al otro lado del Jordán. Pero vosotros, todos los guerreros esforzados, pasaréis en orden de batalla al frente de vuestros hermanos y les ayudaréis	14 Your wives, your little ones and your cattle must stay in the country given you by Moses beyond theJordan. But al you fighting men must cross in battle formation at the head of your brothers and help them,
15 hasta que Yahveh conceda descanso a vuestros hermanos igual que a vosotros, y también ellos tomen posesión de la tierra que Yahveh vuestro Dios les da. Entonces volveréis al país que os pertenece, el que os dio Moisés, siervo de Yahveh, al lado oriental del Jordán».	15 until Yahweh grants rest to your brothers and you alike, when they too have taken possession of theland which Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you may go back and take possession of the land whichbelongs to you and which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given you on the eastern side of the Jordan.'
16 Ellos respondieron a Josué: «Todo lo que nos has mandado, lo haremos; dondequiera que nos envíes, iremos.	16 They answered Joshua, 'We wil do whatever you order us, and wherever you send us we wil go.
17 Lo mismo que obedecimos en todo a Moisés, te obedeceremos a ti. Basta con que Yahveh tu Dios esté contigo como estuvo con Moisés.	17 We obeyed Moses in everything, and now we will obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with youas he was with Moses!
18 A todo el que sea rebelde a tu voz y no obedezca tus órdenes, en cualquier cosa que le mandes, se le hará morir. Tú, sé valiente y firme».	18 If anyone rebels against your orders or will not listen to your commands, let him be put to death. Only be strong and stand firm.'
