BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Bien sabéis vosotros, hermanos, que nuestra ida a vosotros no fue estéril,	1 You know yourselves, my brothers, that our visit to you has not been pointless.
2 sino que, después de haber padecido sufrimientos e injurias en Filipos, como sabéis, confiados en nuestro Dios, tuvimos la valentía de predicaros el Evangelio de Dios entre frequentes luchas.	2 Although, as you know, we had received rough treatment and insults at Philippi, God gave us thecourage to speak his gospel to you fearlessly, in spite of great opposition.
3 Nuestra exhortación no procede del error, ni de la impureza ni con engaño,	3 Our encouragement to you does not come from any delusion or impure motives or trickery.
4 sino que así como hemos sido juzgados aptos por Dios para confiarnos el Evangelio, así lo predicamos, no buscando agradar a los hombres, sino a Dios que examina nuestros corazones.	4 No, God has approved us to be entrusted with the gospel, and this is how we preach, seeking to pleasenot human beings but God who tests our hearts.
5 Nunca nos presentamos, bien lo sabéis, con palabras aduladoras, ni con pretextos de codicia, Dios es testigo,	5 Indeed, we have never acted with the thought of flattering anyone, as you know, nor as an excuse forgreed, God is our witness;
6 ni buscando gloria humana, ni de vosotros ni de nadie.	6 nor have we ever looked for honour from human beings, either from you or anybody else,
7 Aunque pudimos imponer nuestra autoridad por ser apóstoles de Cristo, nos mostramos amables con vosotros, como una madre cuida con cariño de sus hijos.	7 when we could have imposed ourselves on you with full weight, as apostles of Christ. Instead, we livedunassumingly among you. Like a mother feeding and looking after her children,
8 De esta manera, amándoos a vosotros, queríamos daros no sólo el Evangelio de Dios, sino incluso nuestro propio ser, porque habíais llegado a sernos muy queridos.	8 we felt so devoted to you, that we would have been happy to share with you not only the gospel of God,but also our own lives, so dear had you become.
9 Pues recordáis, hermanos, nuestros trabajos y fatigas. Trabajando día y noche, para no ser gravosos a ninguno de vosotros, os proclamamos el Evangelio de Dios.	9 You remember, brothers, with what unsparing energy we used to work, slaving night and day so as notto be a burden on any one of you while we were proclaiming the gospel of God to you.
10 Vosotros sois testigos, y Dios también, de cuán santa, justa e irreprochablemente nos comportamos con vosotros, los creyentes.	10 You are witnesses, and so is God, that our treatment of you, since you believed, has been impeccablyfair and upright.
11 Como un padre a sus hijos, lo sabéis bien, a cada uno de vosotros	11 As you know, we treated every one of you as a father treats his children,
12 os exhortábamos y alentábamos, conjurándoos a que vivieseis de una manera digna de Dios, que os ha llamado a su Reino y gloria.	12 urging you, encouraging you and appealing to you to live a life worthy of God, who cal s you into hiskingdom and his glory.
13 De ahí que también por nuestra parte no cesemos de dar gracias a Dios porque, al recibir la Palabra de Dios que os predicamos, la acogisteis, no como palabra de hombre, sino cual es en verdad, como Palabra de Dios, que permanece operante en vosotros, los creyentes.	13 Another reason why we continual y thank God for you is that as soon as you heard the word that webrought you as God's message, you welcomed it for what it really is, not the word of any human being, but God'sword, a power that is working among you believers.
14 Porque vosotros, hermanos, habéis seguido el ejemplo de las Iglesias de Dios que están en Judea, en Cristo Jesús, pues también vosotros habéis sufrido de vuestros compatriotas las mismas cosas que ellos de parte de los judíos;	14 For you, my brothers, have model ed yourselves on the churches of God in Christ Jesus which are inJudaea, in that you have suffered the same treatment from your own countrymen as they have had from theJews,
15 éstos son los que dieron muerte al Señor y a los profetas y los que nos han perseguido a nosotros; no agradan a Dios y son enemigos de todos los hombres,	15 who put the Lord Jesus to death, and the prophets too, and persecuted us also. Their conduct doesnot please God, and makes them the enemies of the whole human race,
16 impidiéndonos predicar a los gentiles para que se salven; así van colmando constantemente la medida de sus pecados; pero la Cólera irrumpe sobre ellos con vehemencia.	16 because they are hindering us from preaching to gentiles to save them. Thus al the time they arereaching the ful extent of their iniquity, but retribution has final y overtaken them.
17 Mas nosotros, hermanos, separados de vosotros por breve tiempo - físicamente, mas no con el corazón - ansiábamos con ardiente deseo ver vuestro rostro.	17 Although we had been deprived of you for only a short time in body but never in affection, brothers, wehad an especially strong desire and longing to see you face to face again,
18 Por eso quisimos ir a vosotros - yo mismo, Pablo, lo intenté una y otra vez - pero Satanás nos lo impidió.	18 and we tried hard to come and visit you; I, Paul, tried more than once, but Satan prevented us.
19 Pues ¿cuál es nuestra esperanza, nuestro gozo, la corona de la que nos sentiremos orgullosos, ante nuestro Señor Jesús en su Venida, sino vosotros?	19 What do you think is our hope and our joy, and what our crown of honour in the presence of our LordJesus when he comes?
20 Sí, vosotros sois nuestra gloria y nuestro gozo.	20 You are, for you are our pride and joy.
