Deuteronomio 18

BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Los sacerdotes levitas, toda la tribu de Leví, no tendrán parte ni heredad con Israel: vivirán de los manjares ofrecidos a Yahveh y de su heredad.	1 "The whole priestly tribe of Levi shall have no share in the heritage with Israel; they shall live on the oblations of the LORD and the portions due to him.
2 Esta tribu no tendrá heredad entre sus hermanos; Yahveh será su heredad, como él le ha dicho.	2 Levi shall have no heritage among his brothers; the LORD himself is his heritage, as he has told him.
3 Este será el derecho de los sacerdotes sobre aquellos que ofrezcan un sacrificio de ganado mayor o menor: se dará al sacerdote la espaldilla, las quijadas y el cuajar.	3 The priests shall have a right to the following things from the people: from those who are offering a sacrifice, whether the victim is from the herd or from the flock, the priest shall receive the shoulder, the jowls and the stomach.
4 Le darás las primicias de tu trigo, de tu mosto y de tu aceite, así como las primicias del esquileo de tu ganado menor.	4 You shall also give him the first fruits of your grain and wine and oil, as well as the first fruits of the shearing of your flock;
5 Porque a él le ha elegido Yahveh tu Dios entre todas las tribus para ejercer su ministerio en el nombre de Yahveh él y sus hijos para siempre.	5 for the LORD, your God, has chosen him and his sons out of all your tribes to be always in attendance to minister in the name of the LORD.
6 Si el levita llega de una de tus ciudades de todo Israel donde reside, y entra por deseo propio en el lugar elegido por Yahveh,	6 "When a Levite goes from one of your communities anywhere in Israel in which he ordinarily resides, to visit, as his heart may desire, the place which the LORD chooses,
7 oficiará en el nombre de Yahveh su Dios, como todos sus hermanos levitas que se encuentran allí en presencia de Yahveh;	7 he may minister there in the name of the LORD, his God, like all his fellow Levites who are in attendance there before the LORD.
8 comerá una porción igual a la de ellos, aparte lo que obtenga por la venta de sus bienes patrimoniales.	8 He shall then receive the same portions to eat as the rest, along with his monetary offerings and heirlooms.
9 Cuando hayas entrado en la tierra que Yahveh tu Dios te da, no aprenderás a cometer abominaciones como las de esas naciones.	9 "When you come into the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of the peoples there.
10 No ha de haber en ti nadie que haga pasar a su hijo o a su hija por el fuego, que practique adivinación, astrología, hechicería o magia,	10 Let there not be found among you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune-teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner,
11 ningún encantador ni consultor de espectros o adivinos, ni evocador de muertos.	11 or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead.
12 Porque todo el que hace estas cosas es una abominación para Yahveh tu Dios y por causa de estas abominaciones desaloja Yahveh tu Dios a esas naciones delante de ti.	12 Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the LORD, and because of such abominations the LORD, your God, is driving these nations out of your way.
13 Has de ser íntegro con Yahveh tu Dios.	13 You, however, must be altogether sincere toward the LORD, your God.
14 Porque esas naciones que vas a desalojar escuchan a astrólogos y adivinos, pero a ti Yahveh tu Dios no te permite semejante cosa.	14 Though these nations whom you are to dispossess listen to their soothsayers and fortune-tellers, the LORD, your God, will not permit you to do so.
15 Yahveh tu Dios suscitará, de en medio de ti, entre tus hermanos, un profeta como yo, a quien escucharéis.	15 "A prophet like me will the LORD, your God, raise up for you from among your own kinsmen; to him you shall listen.
16 Es exactamente lo que tú pediste a Yahveh tu Dios en el Horeb, el día de la Asamblea, diciendo: «Para no morir, no volveré a escuchar la voz de Yahveh mi Dios, ni miraré más a este gran fuego».	16 This is exactly what you requested of the LORD, your God, at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, 'Let us not again hear the voice of the LORD, our God, nor see this great fire any more, lest we die.'
17 Y Yahveh me dijo a mí: «Bien está lo que han dicho.	17 And the LORD said to me, 'This was well said.
18 Yo les suscitaré, de en medio de sus hermanos, un profeta semejante a ti, pondré mis palabras en su boca, y él les dirá todo lo que yo le mande.	18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kinsmen, and will put my words into his mouth; he shall tell them all that I command him.
19 Si alguno no escucha mis palabras, las que ese profeta pronuncie en mi nombre, yo mismo le pediré cuentas de ello.	19 If any man will not listen to my words which he speaks in my name, I myself will make him answer for it.
20 Pero si un profeta tiene la presunción de decir en mi nombre una palabra que yo no he mandado decir, y habla en nombre de otros dioses, ese profeta morirá».	20 But if a prophet presumes to speak in my name an oracle that I have not commanded him to speak, or speaks in the name of other gods, he shall die.'
21 Acaso vas a decir en tu corazón: «¡Cómo sabremos que esta palabra no la ha dicho Yahveh?»	21 "If you say to yourselves, 'How can we recognize an oracle which the LORD has spoken?',
22 Si ese profeta habla en nombre de Yahveh, y lo que dice queda sin efecto y no se cumple, es que Yahveh no ha dicho tal palabra; el profeta lo ha dicho por presunción; no le tengas miedo.	22 know that, even though a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if his oracle is not fulfilled or verified, it is an oracle which the LORD did not speak. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously, and you shall have no fear of him.
