1 Anegada entonces mi alma de tristeza, suspirando y llorando, comenzé a orar con gemidos:	1 Then I being grieved did weep, and in my sorrow prayed, saying,
2 Tú eres justo, Señor, y justas son todas tus obras. Misericordia y verdad son todos tus caminos. Tú eres el Juez del Universo.	2 O Lord, thou art just, and all thy works and all thy ways are mercy and truth, and thou judgest truly and justly for ever.
3 Y ahora, Señor, acuérdate de mí y mírame. No me condenes por mis pecados, mis inadvertencias y las de mis padres. Hemos pecado en tu presencia,	3 Remember me, and look on me, punish me not for my sins and ignorances, and the sins of mg fathers, who have sinned before thee:
4 no hemos escuchado tus mandatos y nos has entregado al saqueo, a la burla, al comentario y al oprobio de todas las gentes entre las que nos has dispersado.	4 For they obeyed not thy commandments: wherefore thou hast delivered us for a spoil, and unto captivity, and unto death, and for a proverb of reproach to all the nations among whom we are dispersed.
5 Pero cierto es, Señor, que todas tus sentencias a la verdad responden cuando me tratas según mis pecados y los de mis padres; porque no hemos cumplido tus mandatos, y no hemos caminado en la verdad delante de ti.	5 And now thy judgments are many and true: deal with me according to my sins and my fathers': because we have not kept thy commandments, neither have walked in truth before thee.
6 Haz conmigo ahora según lo que te plazca y ordena que reciban mi vida para que yo me disuelva sobre la faz de la tierra, porque más me vale morir que vivir. Tengo que aguantar injustos reproches y me anega la tristeza. Manda, Señor, que sea liberado de esta aflicción y déjame partir al lugar eterno, y no apartes, Señor, tu rostro de mí, pues prefiero morir a pasar tanta aflicción durante la vida y tener que seguir oyendo injurias.	6 Now therefore deal with me as seemeth best unto thee, and command my spirit to be taken from me, that I may be dissolved, and become earth: for it is profitable for me to die rather than to live, because I have heard false reproaches, and have much sorrow: command therefore that I may now be delivered out of this distress, and go into the everlasting place: turn not thy face away from me.
7 Sucedió aquel mismo día, que también Sarra, hija de Ragüel, el de Ecbátana de Media, fue injuriada por una de las esclavas de su padre,	7 It came to pass the same day, that in Ecbatane a city of Media Sara the daughter of Raguel was also reproached by her father's maids;
8 porque había sido dada en matrimonio a siete hombres, pero el malvado demonio Asmodeo los había matado antes de que se unieran a ella como casados. La esclava le decía: «¡Eres tú la que matas a tus maridos! Ya has tenido siete, pero ni de uno siquiera has disfrutado.	8 Because that she had been married to seven husbands, whom Asmodeus the evil spirit had killed, before they had lain with her. Dost thou not know, said they, that thou hast strangled thine husbands? thou hast had already seven husbands, neither wast thou named after any of them.
9 ¿Nos castigas porque se te mueren los maridos? ¡Vete con ellos y que nunca veamos hijo ni hija tuyos!»	9 Wherefore dost thou beat us for them? if they be dead, go thy ways after them, let us never see of thee either son or daughter.
10 Entonces Sarra, con el alma llena de tristeza, se echó a llorar y subió al aposento de su padre con intención de ahorcarse. Pero, reflexionando, pensó: «Acaso esto sirva para que injurien a mi padre y le digan: “Tenías una hija única, amada y se ha ahorcado porque se sentía desgraciada.” No puedo consentir que mi padre, en su ancianidad, baje con tristeza a la mansión de los muertos. Es mejor que, en vez de ahorcarme, suplique al Señor que me envíe la muerte para no tener que oír injurias durante mi vida».	10 Whe she heard these things, she was very sorrowful, so that she thought to have strangled herself; and she said, I am the only daughter of my father, and if I do this, it shall be a reproach unto him, and I shall bring his old age with sorrow unto the grave.
11 Y en aquel momento, extendiendo las manos hacia la ventana, oró así: Bendito seas tú, Dios de misericordias, y bendito sea tu Nombre por los siglos, y que todas tus obras te bendigan por siempre.	11 Then she prayed toward the window, and said, Blessed art thou, O Lord my God, and thine holy and glorious name is blessed and honourable for ever: let all thy works praise thee for ever.
12 Vuelvo ahora mi rostro y alzo mi ojos hacia ti.	12 And now, O Lord, I set I mine eyes and my face toward thee,
13 Manda que yo sea librada de la tierra, para no escuchar ultrajes.	13 And say, Take me out of the earth, that I may hear no more the reproach.
14 Tú sabes, Señor, que yo estoy pura de todo contacto de varón;	14 Thou knowest, Lord, that I am pure from all sin with man,
15 que no he mancillado mi nombre ni el nombre de mi padre en la tierra de mi cautividad. Soy la única hija de mi padre; no tiene otros hijos que le hereden, no tiene junto a sí ningún hermano ni pariente a quien me deba por mujer. Ya perdí siete maridos: ¿para qué quiero la vida? Si no te place, Señor, darme la muerte, ¡mírame con compasión! y no tenga yo que escuchar injurias.	15 And that I never polluted my name, nor the name of my father, in the land of my captivity: I am the only daughter of my father, neither hath he any child to be his heir, neither any near kinsman, nor any son of his alive, to whom I may keep myself for a wife: my seven husbands are already dead; and why should I live? but if it please not thee that I should die, command some regard to be had of me, and pity taken of me, that I hear no more reproach.
16 Fue oída en aquel instante, en la Gloria de Dios, la plegaria de ambos	16 So the prayers of them both were heard before the majesty of the great God.
17 y fue enviado Rafael a curar a los dos: a Tobit, para que se le quitaran las manchas blancas de los ojos y pudiera con sus mismos ojos ver la luz de Dios; y a Sarra la de Ragüel, para entregarla por mujer a Tobías, hijo de Tobit, y librarla de Asmodeo, el demonio malvado; porque Tobías tenía más derechos sobre ella que todos cuantos la pretendían. En aquel mismo momento se volvía Tobit del patio a la casa, y Sarra, la de Ragüel, descendía del aposento.	17 And Raphael was sent to heal them both, that is, to scale away the whiteness of Tobit's eyes, and to give Sara the daughter of Raguel for a wife to Tobias the son of Tobit; and to bind Asmodeus the evil spirit; because she belonged to Tobias by right of inheritance. The selfsame time came Tobit home, and entered into his house, and Sara the daughter of Raguel came down from her upper chamber.
