Esdras 10

BIBLIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Mientras Esdras, llorando y prosternado ante la Casa de Dios, oraba y hacía esta confesión, una inmensa asamblea de Israel, hombres, mujeres y niños, se había reunido en torno a él: y este pueblo lloraba copiosamente.	1 Now when Esdras was thus praying, and beseeching, and weeping, and lying before the temple of God, there was gathered to him of Israel an exceeding great assembly of men and women and children, and the people wept with much lamentation.
2 Entonces, Sekanías, hijo de Yejiel, de los hijos de Elam, dijo a Esdras: «Hemos sido rebeldes a nuestro Dios, casándonos con mujeres extranjeras, tomadas de entre las gentes del país. Ahora bien, a pesar de ello, todavía, hay una esperanza para Israel.	2 And Sechenias the son of Jehiel of the sons of Elam answered, and said to Esdras: We have sinned against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: and now if there be repentance in Israel concerning this,
3 Hagamos alianza con nuestro Dios de despedir a todas las mujeres extranjeras y a los hijos nacidos de ellas, conforme al consejo de mi señor y de los temerosos de los mandamientos de nuestro Dios. Hágase según la Ley.	3 Let us make a covenant with the Lord our God, to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the will of the Lord, and of them that fear the commandment of the Lord our God: let it be done according to the law.
4 Levántate, que este asunto te incumbe a ti; nosotros estaremos a tu lado. ¡Animo y manos a la obra!»	4 Arise, it is thy part to give orders, and we will be with thee: take courage, and do it.
5 Entonces Esdras se levantó e hizo jurar a los jefes de los sacerdotes y de los levitas y a todo Israel que harían conforme a lo dicho; y lo juraron.	5 So Esdras arose, and made the chiefs of the priests and of the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word, and they swore.
6 Luego Esdras se retiró de delante de la Casa de Dios y se fue al aposento de Yehojanán, hijo de Elyasib, donde pasó la noche sin comer pan ni beber agua, haciendo duelo a causa de la rebeldía de los deportados.	6 And Esdras rose up from before the house of God, and went to the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliasib, and entered in thither: he ate no bread, and drank no water: for he mourned for the transgression of them that were come out of the captivity.
7 Se publicó un bando en Judá y Jerusalén a todos los deportados para que se reunirean en Jerusalén.	7 And proclamation was made in Juda and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should assemble together into Jerusalem.
8 Todo aquel que no viniera en el plazo de tres días, según el consejo de los jefes y de los ancianos, vería consagrada al anatema toda su hacienda y sería él mismo excluido de la asamblea de los deportados.	8 And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the ancients, all his substance should be taken away, and he should be cast out of the company of them that were returned from captivity.
9 Todos los hombres de Judá y de Benjamín se reunieron, pues, en Jerusalén en el plazo de tres días: era el día veinte del mes noveno; todo el pueblo se situó en la plaza de la Casa de Dios, temblando, debido al caso, y también porque llovía a cántaros.	9 Then all the men of Juda, and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within three days, in the ninth month, the twentieth day of the month: and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of the sin, and the rain.
10 Entonces el sacerdote Esdras se levantó y les dijo: «Habéis sido rebeldes al casaros con mujeres extranjeras, aumentando así el delito de Israel.	10 And Esdras the priest stood up, and said to them: You have transgressed, and taken strange wives, to add to the sine of Israel.
11 Ahora, pues, dad gracias a Yahveh, Dios de vuestros padres, y cumplid su voluntad separándoos de las gentes del país y de las mujeres extranjeras».	11 And now make confession to the Lord the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from your strange wives.
12 Toda la asamblea respondió en alta voz: Sí; haremos como tú dices;	12 And all the multitude answered and said with a loud voice: According to thy word unto us, so be it done.
13 sólo que el pueblo es numeroso, y estamos en la estación de las lluvias: no podemos soportar la intemperie; además, no se trata de una cosa de un día o dos, porque somos muchos los que hemos incurrido en este pecado.	13 But as the people are many, and it is time of rain, and me are not able to stand without, and it is not a work of one day or two, (for we have exceedingly sinned in this matter,)
14 Nuestros jefes podrían representar a toda la asamblea: todos los que en nuestras ciudades se hayan casado con mujeres extranjeras, vendrían a plazos fijados, acompañados de los ancianos y los jueces de cada ciudad, hasta que hayamos apartado de nosotros el furor de la cólera de nuestro Dios por causa de este asunto».	14 Let rulers be appointed in all the multitude: and in all our cities, let them that have taken strange wives come at the times appointed, and with them the ancients and the judges of every city, until the wrath of our God be turned away from us for this sin.
15 Sólo Jonatán, hijo de Asahel, y Yajzeías, hijo de Tiqvá, se opusieron a esto, apoyados por Mesullam y el levita Sabtay.	15 Then Jonathan the son of Azahel, and Jaasia the son of Thecua were appointed over this, and Mesollam and Sebethai, Levites, helped them:
16 Los deportados actuaron según lo convenido. El sacerdote Esdras escogió como colaboradores a los cabezas de familia, según sus casas, todos ellos designados nominalmente. Se comenzaron las sesiones para examinar el caso el día uno del décimo mes.	16 And the children of the captivity did so. And Esdras the priest, and the men heads of the families in the houses of their fathers, and all by their names, went and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17 Y el día uno del primer mes se había terminado ya con todos los hombres que estaban casados con mujeres extranjeras.	17 And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.
18 Entre los sacerdotes, se halló que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras los siguientes: entre los hijos de Josué, hijo de Yosadaq, y entre sus hermanos: Maaseías, Eliezer, Yarib y Guedalías;	18 And there were found among the sons of the priests that had taken strange wives: Of the sons of Josue the son of Josedec, and his brethren, Maasia, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Godolia.
19 éstos se comprometieron bajo juramento a despedir a sus mujeres, y ofrecieron por su delito un carnero en sacrificio de reparación.	19 And they gave their hands to put away their wives, and to offer for their offence a ram of the flock.
20 Entre los hijos de Immer: Jananí y Zebadías.	20 And of the sons of Emmer, Hanani, and Zebedia.
21 Entre los hijos de Jarim: «Maaseías, Elías, Semaías, Yejiel y Uzziyías.	21 And of the sons of Harim, Maasia, and Elia, and Semeia, and Jehiel, and Ozias.
22 Entre los hijos de Pasjur: Elyoenay, Maaseías, Ismael, Natanael, Yozabad y Elasá.	22 And of the sons of Pheshur, Elioenai, Maasia, Ismael, Nathanael, Jozabed, and Elasa.
23 Entre los levitas: Yozabad, Simí, Quelaías (es decir, Quelitá), Petajías, Judá y Eliezer.	23 And of the sons of the Levites, Jozabed, and Semei, and Celaia, the same is Calita, Phataia, Juda, and Eliezer.
24 Entre los cantores: Elyasib y Zakkur. Entre los porteros: Sallum, Telem y Urí.	24 And of the singing men, Elisiab: and of the porters, Sellum, and Telem, and
25 Entre los israelitas: de los hijos de Parós: Ramías, Yizziyías, Malkiyías, Miyyamín, Eleazar, Malkiyías y Benaías;	25 And of Israel, of the sons of Pharos, Remeia, and Jezia, and Melchia, and Miamin, and Eliezer, and Melchia, and Banea.
26 de los hijos de Elam: Mattanías, Zacarías, Yejiel, Abdí, Yeremot y Elías;	26 And of the sons of Elam, Mathania, Zacharias, annd Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jerimoth, and Elia.
27 de los hijos de Zattú: Elyoenáy. Elyasib Mattanías, Yeremot, Zabad y Azizá:	27 And of the sons of Zethua, Elioenai, Eliasib, Mathania, Jerimuth, and Zabad, and Aziaza.
28 de los hijos de Bebay: Yehojanán, Jananías, Zabbay, Atlay;	28 And of the sons of Babai, Johanan, Hanania, Zabbai, Athalai:
29 de los hijos de Bigvay: Mesullam, Malluk, Yedaías, Yasub, Yisal, Yeremot;	29 And of the sons of Bani, Mosollam, and Melluch, and Adaia, Jasub, and Seal, and Ramoth.
30 de los hijos de Pajat Moab: Adná, Kelal, Benaías, Maaseías, Mattanías, Besalel, Binnuy y Manasés;	30 And of the sons of Phahath, Moab, Edna, and Chalal, Banaias, and Maasias, Mathanias, Beseleel, Bennui, and Manasse.
31 de los hijos de Jarim: Eliezer, Yissiyías, Malkiyías, Semaías, Simeón,	31 And of the sons of Herem, Eliezer, Josue, Melchias, Semeias, Simeon,
32 Benjamín, Malluk, Semarías;	32 Benjamin, Maloch, Samarias.
33 de los hijos de Jasum: Mattenay, Mattattá, Zabad, Elifélet, Yeremay, Manasés, Simí;	33 And of the sons of Hasom, Mathanai, Mathatha, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jermai, Manasse, Semei.
34 de los hijos de Baní: Maaday, Amram, Joel,	34 Of the sons of Bani, Maaddi, Amran, and Uel,
35 Benaías, Bedías, Kelaías,	35 Baneas, and Badaias, Cheliau,
36 Vanías, Meremot, Elyasib,	36 Vania, Marimuth, and Eliasib,
37 Mattanías, Mattenay y Yaassay;	37 Mathanias, Mathania, and Jasi,
38 de los hijos de Binnuy: Simí,	38 And Bani, and Bennui, Semei,
39 Selemías, Natán y Adaías;	39 And Salmias, and Nathan, and Adaias,
40 de los hijos de Zakkay: Sasay, Saray,	40 And Mechnedebai, Sisai, Sarai,
41 Azareel, Selemías, Semarías,	41 Ezrel, and Selemiau, Semeria,
42 Sallum, Amarías, José;	42 Sellum, Amaria, Joseph.
43 de los hijos de Nebo: Yeiel, Mattitías, Zabad, Zebiná, Yadday, Joel, Benaías.	43 Of the sons of Nebo, Jehiel, Mathathias, Zabad, Zabina, Jeddu, and Joel, and Banaia.
44 Todos éstos se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras, pero despidieron tanto a las mujeres como a sus hijos.	44 All these had taken strange wives, and there were among them women that had borne children.
