1 Josías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó 31 años en Jerusalén.	1 Josias was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one and thirty years in Jerusalem.
2 Hizo lo recto a los ojos de Yahveh, siguiendo los caminos de su padre David; sin apartarse a derecha ni a izquierda.	2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father: he declined not, neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3 El año octavo de su reinado, siendo todavía joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de su padre David; y en el año doce empezó a purificar a Judá y Jerusalén de los altos, de los cipos, de las estatuas y de los ídolos fundidos.	3 And in the eighth year of his reign, when he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David: and in the twelfth year after he began to reign, he cleansed Juda and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the idols, and the graven things.
4 Derribaron en su presencia los altares de los Baales, hizo arrancar los altares de aromas que había sobre ellos, y rompió los cipos, las imágenes y los ídolos fundidos reduciéndolos a polvo, que esparció sobre las sepulturas de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios.	4 And they broke down before him the altars of Baalim, and demolished the idols that had been set upon them: and be cut down the groves and the graven things, and broke them in pieces: and strewed the fragments upon the graves of them that had sacrificed to them.
5 Quemó los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre los altares y purificó a Judá y Jerusalén.	5 And he burnt the bones of the priests on the altars of the idols, and he cleansed Juda and Jerusalem.
6 En las ciudades de Manasés, de Efraím y de Simeón, y hasta en Neftalí y en los territorios asolados que las rodeaban,	6 And in the cities of Manasses, and of Ephraim, and of Simeon, even to Nephtali he demolished all.
7 derribó los altares, demolió los cipos y las estatuas y las redujo a polvo, y abatió los altares de aromas en toda la tierra de Israel. Después regresó a Jerusalén.	7 And when he had destroyed the altars, and the groves, and had broken the idols in pieces, and had demolished all profane temples throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
8 El año dieciocho de su reinado, mandó a Safán, hijo de Asalías, a Maasías, comandante de la ciudad, y a Yoaj, hijo de Yoajaz, heraldo, que reparasen la Casa de Yahveh su Dios para purificar la tierra y la Casa.	8 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had cleansed the land, and the temple of the Lord, he sent Saphan the son of Eselias, and Maasias the governor of the city, Joha the son of Joachaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.
9 Fueron ellos donde el sumo sacerdote Jilquiás y le entregaron el dinero traído a la Casa de Dios, que los levitas y porteros habían recibido de Manasés y de Efraím y de todo el resto de Israel, de todo Judá y Benjamín y de los habitantes de Jerusalén.	9 And they came to Helcias the high priest: and received of him the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, and which the Levites and porters had gathered together from Manasses, and Ephraim, and all the remnant of Israel, and from all Juda, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
10 Lo pusieron en manos de los que hacían el trabajo, los encargados de la Casa de Yahveh, y éstos se lo dieron a los obreros para reparar y restaurar la Casa.	10 Which they delivered into the hands of them that were over the workmen in the house of the Lord, to repair the temple, and mend all that was weak.
11 Lo dieron a los carpinteros y obreros de la construcción para comprar piedras de cantería y madera y vigas de trabazón para el maderamen de los edificios destruidos por los reyes de Judá.	11 But they gave it to the artificers, and to the masons, to buy stones out of the quarries, and timber for the couplings of the building, and to rafter the houses, which the kings of Juda had destroyed.
12 Estos hombres ejecutaban los trabajos honradamente. Estaban bajo la vigilancia de Yájat y Abdías, levitas de los hijos de Merarí, y de Zacarías y Mesúllam, de los hijos de Quehat, que les dirigían, y de otros levitas; todos ellos maestros en tañer instrumentos músicos.	12 And they did all faithfully. Now the overseers of the workmen were Jahath and Abdias of the sons of Merari, Zacharias and Mosollam of the sons of Caath, who hastened the work: all Levites skilful to play on instruments.
13 Dirigían también a los peones de carga y a todos los que trabajaban en la obra, en los distintos servicios. Entre los levitas había además, escribas, notarios y porteros.	13 But over them that carried burdens for divers uses, were scribes, and masters of the number of the Levites, and porters.
14 Cuando estaban sacando el dinero traído a la Casa de Yahveh, el sacerdote Jilquías encontró el libro de la Ley de Yahveh dada por Moisés;	14 Now when they carried out the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord, Helcias the priest found the book of the law of the Lord, by the hand of Moses.
15 y Jilquías tomó la palabra y dijo al secretario Safán: «He encontrado el libro de la Ley en la Casa de Yahveh»; y Jilquías entregó el libro a Safán.	15 And he said to Saphan the scribe: I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord: and he delivered it to him.
16 Safán llevó el libro al rey, y le rindió cuentas diciendo: «Tus siervos están haciendo todo lo que les ha sido encargado.	16 But he carried the book to the king, and told him, saying: Lo, all that thou hast committed to thy servants, is accomplished.
17 Han fundido el dinero traído a la Casa de Yahveh y lo han entregado a los encargados y a los que trabajan en la obra».	17 They have gathered together the silver that was found in the house of the Lord: and it is given to the overseers of the artificers, and of the workmen, for divers works.
18 El secretario Safán anunció al rey: «El sacerdote Jilquías me ha entregado un libro». Y Safán leyó una parte en presencia del rey.	18 Moreover Helcias the priest gave me this book. And he read it before the king.
19 Cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la Ley, rasgó sus vestidos,	19 And when he had heard the words of the law, he rent his garments:
20 y ordenó a Jilquías, a Ajicam, hijo de Safán, a Abdón, hijo de Miká, a Safán, secretario, y a Asaías, servidor del rey:	20 And he commanded Helcias, and Ahicam the son of Saphan, and Abdon the son of Micha, and Saphan the scribe, and Asaa the king's servant, saying:
21 «¡Id!; consultad a Yahveh por mí y por el resto de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que ha sido encontrado, porque grande es la cólera de Yahveh que se derrama sobre nosotros; pues nuestros padres no han guardado la palabra de Yahveh haciendo conforme a todo lo escrito en este libro».	21 ,21Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel, and Juda, concerning all the words of this book, which is found: for the great wrath of the Lord hath fallen upon us, because our fathers have not kept the words of the Lord, to do all things that are written in this book.
22 Jilquías y los enviados del rey fueron donde la profetisa Juldá, mujer de Sallum, hijo de Toqhat, hijo de Jasrá, encargado del vestuario; vivía ella en Jerusalén, en la ciudad nueva; y ellos le hablaron conforme a lo indicado;	22 And Helcias and they that were sent with him by the king, went to Olda the prophetess, the wife of Sellum the son of Thecuath, the son of Hasra keeper of the wardrobe: who dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second part: and they spoke to her the words above mentioned.
23 ella les respondió: «Así habla Yahveh, el Dios de Israel: Decid al hombre que os ha enviado a mí:	23 And she answered them: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Tell the man that sent you to me:
24 Así habla Yahveh: Voy a traer el mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes; todas las maldiciones escritas en el libro que se ha leído delante del rey de Judá;	24 Thus saith the Lord: Behold I will bring evils upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, and all the curses that are written in this book which they read before the king of Juda.
25 porque ellos me han abandonado y han quemado incienso a otros dioses, irritándome con todas las obras de sus manos; mi cólera se ha derramado sobre este lugar y no se apagará.	25 Because they have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, to provoke me to wrath with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath shall fall upon this place, and shall not be quenched.
26 Y al rey de Judá que os ha enviado para consultar a Yahveh, le diréis: Así dice Yahveh, Dios de Israel, acerca de las palabras que has oído...	26 But as to the king of Juda that sent you to beseech the Lord, thus shall you say to him: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Because thou hast heard the words of this book,
27 Porque tu corazón se ha conmovido y te has humillado delante de Dios al oír sus palabras contra este lugar y sus habitantes, y porque te has humillado ante mí, has rasgado tus vestidos y has llorado ante mí, por eso yo, a mi vez, he oído, oráculo de Yahveh.	27 And thy heart was softened. and thou hast humbled thyself in the sight of God for the things that are spoken against this place, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and reverencing my face, hast rent thy garments, and wept before me: I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.
28 Voy a reunirte con tus padres y serás recibido en paz en tu sepulcro; y no verán tus ojos ninguno de los males que voy a traer sobre este lugar y sus moradores». Ellos llevaron la respuesta al rey.	28 For now I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be brought to thy tomb in peace: and thy eyes shall not see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and the inhabitants thereof. They therefore reported to the king all that she had said.
29 Entonces el rey hizo reunir a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.	29 And he called together all the ancients of Juda and Jerusalem.
30 Subió el rey a la Casa de Yahveh con todos los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén, los sacerdotes y los levitas, y todo el pueblo desde el mayor hasta el menor, y leyó a sus oídos todas las palabras del libro de la alianza que había sido encontrado en la Casa de Yahveh.	30 And went up to the house of the Lord, and all the men of Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people from the least to the greatest. And the king read in their hearing, in the house of the Lord, all the words of the book.
31 Y puesto en pie junto a la columna, hizo el rey alianza en presencia de Yahveh, para andar tras de Yahveh y guardar sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus preceptos, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, cumpliendo las palabras de la alianza escritas en aquel libro.	31 And standing up in his tribunal, he made a covenant before the Lord to walk after him, and keep his commandments, and testimonies, and justifications with all his heart, and with all his soul, and to do the things that were written in that book which he had read.
32 Hizo que la aceptaran cuantos se hallaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín. Y los habitantes de Jerusalén hicieron conforme a la alianza de Dios, el Dios de sus padres.	32 And he adjured all that were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to do the same: and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of the Lord the God of their fathers.
33 Josías hizo desaparecer todas las abominaciones de todas las regiones de los israelitas, y obligó a todos los que se hallaban en Israel a servir a Yahveh su Dios. Y mientras él vivió no se apartaron de Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres.	33 And Josias took away all the abominations out of all the countries of the children of Israel: and made all that were left in Israel, to serve the Lord their God. As long as he lived they departed not from the Lord the God of their fathers.
