1 When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they carried it from Ebenezer to Ashdod;	1 Los filisteos capturaron el Arca de Dios y la trasladaron de Eben Ezer a Asdod.
2 then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon.	2 Allí tomaron el Arca de Dios, la introdujeron en el templo de Dagón y la expusieron al lado de Dagón.
3 And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place.	3 A la mañana siguiente, los asdoditas se levantaron bien temprano, y encontraron a Dagón caído en el suelo, boca abajo, ante el Arca del Señor. Lo recogieron y lo volvieron a poner en su sitio.
4 But when they rose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD, and the head of Dagon and both his hands were lying cut off upon the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left to him.	4 Pero a la mañana siguiente, cuando los asdoditas se levantaron, encontraron a Dagón caído en el suelo, boca abajo, ante el Arca del Señor. La cabeza de Dagón y las dos palmas de sus manos yacían cortadas sobre el umbral, y no le quedaba más que el tronco.
5 This is why the priests of Dagon and all who enter the house of Dagon do not tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.	5 Por eso, hasta el día de hoy los sacerdotes de Dagón y los que entran en su templo, en Asdod, no pisan el umbral.
6 The hand of the LORD was heavy upon the people of Ashdod, and he terrified and afflicted them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territory.	6 La mano del Señor se hizo sentir pesadamente sobre los asdoditas y los devastó, hiriéndolos con tumores por todo el territorio de Asdod.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw how things were, they said, "The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us; for his hand is heavy upon us and upon Dagon our god."	7 Al ver lo que sucedía, los asdoditas dijeron: «Que el Arca del Señor no se quede entre nosotros, porque su mano es dura contra nosotros y contra Dagón, nuestro dios».
8 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" They answered, "Let the ark of the God of Israel be brought around to Gath." So they brought the ark of the God of Israel there.	8 Entonces invitaron a todos los príncipes de los filisteos a reunirse con ellos, y dijeron: «¿Qué podemos hacer con el Arca del Dios de Israel?». Ellos respondieron: «Hay que trasladarla a Gat». Así trasladaron el Arca del Dios de Israel.
9 But after they had brought it around, the hand of the LORD was against the city, causing a very great panic, and he afflicted the men of the city, both young and old, so that tumors broke out upon them.	9 Pero una vez que fue trasladada, la mano del Señor se hizo sentir sobre la ciudad y cundió un pánico terrible, porque el Señor hirió a la gente de la ciudad, del más pequeño al más grande, y les brotaron tumores.
10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. But when the ark of God came to Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, "They have brought around to us the ark of the God of Israel to slay us and our people."	10 Entonces enviaron el Arca de Dios a Ecrón. Pero apenas el Arca llegó a Ecrón, los ecronitas gritaron: «Han trasladado aquí el Arca del Dios de Israel, para hacerme morir a mí y a mi pueblo».
11 They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, "Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it return to its own place, that it may not slay us and our people." For there was a deathly panic throughout the whole city. The hand of God was very heavy there;	11 Luego invitaron a reunirse a todos los príncipes de los filisteos, y estos decían: «Devuelvan el Arca del Dios de Israel; que regrese al lugar donde estaba, y no me haga morir a mí y a mi pueblo». Porque reinaba un pánico mortal en toda la ciudad, tal era el peso con que se hacía sentir la mano del Señor.
12 the men who did not die were stricken with tumors, and the cry of the city went up to heaven.	12 A los que no morían les brotaban tumores, y el clamor de la ciudad subía hasta el cielo.
