Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition KING JAMES BIBLE
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men,1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way.2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time.6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
also that women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
but by good deeds, as befits women who profess religion.10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness.11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent.12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve;13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Yet woman will be saved through bearing children, if she continues in faith and love and holiness, with modesty.15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
