1 Timothy 2

1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men,	1 Raccomando dunque, prima di tutto, che si facciano suppliche, orazioni, voti, ringraziamenti per tutti gli uomini:
2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way.	2 pei re e per le autorità costituite, affinchè possiamo menare una vita pacifica e tranquilla con tutta pietà e onestà.
3 This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,	3 E questa è cosa buona e gradita nel cospetto del Salvatore nostro Dio,
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.	4 il quale vuole che tutti gli uomini si salvino e giungano alla conoscenza della verità.
5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,	5 Or v'è un solo Dio, un solo mediatore tra Dio e gli uomini, l'uomo Cristo Gesù,
6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time.	6 il quale diede se stesso in redenzione per tutti, attestato a suo tempo,
7 For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.	7 e per attestar di lui io sono stato costituito predicatore e apostolo (dico la verità, non mentisco), dottore delle Genti nella fede e nella verità.
8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;	8 Voglio dunque che gli uomini preghino in ogni luogo, alzando mani pure, senza ira, nè dispute.
9 also that women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire	9 Così pure voglio che le donne si vestano in modo decente, con verecondia e modestia, non riccioli, oro e perle e vesti preziose,
10 but by good deeds, as befits women who profess religion.	10 ma come s'addice a donne che fan professione di pietà, con opere buone.
11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness.	11 La donna impari in silenzio con perfetta sottomissione.
12 I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent.	12 Non permetto alla donna d'insegnare, nè di comandare all'uomo, ma deve stare in silenzio.
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve;	13 Fu infatti prima creato Adamo e poi Èva;
14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.	14 e non fu sedotto Adamo, ma la donna fu sedotta fino alla prevaricazione.
15 Yet woman will be saved through bearing children, if she continues in faith and love and holiness, with modesty.	15 Ma pure si salverà diventando madre, se rimarrà nella fede e nella carità e nella santità con modestia.
