Joshua 24

1 Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and summoned the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers of Israel; and they presented themselves before God.	1 Josua versammelte alle Stämme Israels in Sichem. Er berief die Ältesten Israels, seine Oberhäupter, Richter und Aufseher, und sie traten vor Gott hin.
2 And Joshua said to all the people, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Your fathers lived of old beyond the Euphrates, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods.	2 Josua sprach zu dem ganzen Volke: "So spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: "Jenseits des Stromes haben dereinst eure Urahnen gewohnt, Terach, der Vater Abrahams und Nachors; sie haben andern Göttern gedient.
3 Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan, and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac;	3 Da nahm ich euren Ahnherrn Abraham aus dem Lande jenseits des Stromes und führte ihn durch das ganze Land Kanaan. Ich machte seine Nachkommenschaft zahlreich und schenkte ihm den Isaak.
4 and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. And I gave Esau the hill country of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.	4 Dem Isaak aber schenkte ich Jakob und Esau. Dem Esau gab ich das Gebirge Seïr zum Besitze. Jakob aber und seine Söhne zogen hinab nach Ägypten.
5 And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt with what I did in the midst of it; and afterwards I brought you out.	5 Sodann sandte ich Moses und Aaron und schlug Ägypten mit Wundertaten, die ich in seiner Mitte wirkte. Danach führte ich euch hinweg.
6 Then I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.	6 Ich führte eure Väter aus Ägypten hinweg, und ihr gelangtet an das Meer. Die Ägypter aber setzten euren Vätern nach mit Streitwagen und deren Mannschaften am Schilfmeer.
7 And when they cried to the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and made the sea come upon them and cover them; and your eyes saw what I did to Egypt; and you lived in the wilderness a long time.	7 Da riefen sie zum Herrn um Hilfe, und er ließ zwischen euch und den Ägyptern Finsternis aufkommen. Er schickte über sie die Meeresflut, die sie bedeckte. Mit eigenen Augen habt ihr gesehen, was ich an Ägypten tat. Ihr verweiltet dann lange Zeit hindurch in der Wüste.
8 Then I brought you to the land of the Amorites, who lived on the other side of the Jordan; they fought with you, and I gave them into your hand, and you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you.	8 Ich brachte euch dann in das Land der Amoriter, jenseits des Jordans. Sie kämpften mit euch, und ich gab sie in eure Gewalt. Ihr konntet ihr Land besetzen, und ich vertilgte sie vor euch.
9 Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel; and he sent and invited Balaam the son of Beor to curse you,	9 Sodann trat Balak auf, der Sohn des Zippor, der König von Moab, und stritt wider Israel. Er ließ den Bileam, den Sohn des Beor, rufen, damit er euch verfluche.
10 but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you; so I delivered you out of his hand.	10 Ich aber war Bileam nicht willfährig. Er mußte euch segnen, und ich rettete euch aus seiner Hand.
11 And you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho, and the men of Jericho fought against you, and also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I gave them into your hand.	11 Ihr überschrittet den Jordan und kamt nach Jericho. Die Männer von Jericho stritten wider euch, die Amoriter, die Perissiter, Kanaaniter, Hethiter, Girgaschiter, Hiwwiter und Jebusiter. Ich aber gab sie in eure Gewalt.
12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out before you, the two kings of the Amorites; it was not by your sword or by your bow.	12 Ich sandte vor euch her die Furcht. Diese verdrängte sie vor euch, die zwei Könige der Amoriter, nicht durch dein Schwert und nicht durch deinen Bogen.
13 I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities which you had not built, and you dwell therein; you eat the fruit of vineyards and oliveyards which you did not plant.'	13 Ich verlieh euch ein Land, um das du dich nicht bemüht hast, Städte, die ihr nicht gebaut habt, aber doch bewohnen dürft. Weinberge und Olivengärten, die ihr nicht gepflanzt, dienen euch zur Nahrung."
14 "Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.	14 So fürchtet nun den Herrn, dient ihm mit ungeteilter Hingabe und Treue, entfernt die Götter, denen eure Väter jenseits des Stromes und in Ägypten dienten, und dienet dem Herrn!
15 And if you be unwilling to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."	15 Gefällt es euch aber nicht, dem Herrn zu dienen, so wählt euch heute aus, wem ihr dienen wollt: den Göttern, denen eure Ahnen jenseits des Stromes gedient haben, oder den Göttern der Amoriter, in deren Land ihr wohnt! Ich aber und meine Familie, wir wollen dem Herrn dienen."
16 Then the people answered, "Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;	16 Da antwortete das Volk und sprach: "Fern sei es von uns, den Herrn zu verlassen, um anderen Göttern zu dienen!
17 for it is the LORD our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, and who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed;	17 Denn der Herr, unser Gott, war es, der uns und unsere Väter aus dem Ägypterland heraufführte, aus dem Hause der Sklaverei, der vor unseren Blicken jene großen Wunderzeichen tat und uns auf allen unseren Wegen und unter allen Völkern, durch die wir mitten hindurchgezogen sind, behütete.
18 and the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land; therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God."	18 Der Herr vertrieb vor uns alle Völker und die Amoriter, die Landesbewohner. Auch wir wollen dem Herrn dienen; denn er ist unser Gott."
19 But Joshua said to the people, "You cannot serve the LORD; for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.	19 Da sprach Josua zum Volke: "Ihr könnt dem Herrn nicht dienen, denn er ist ein heiliger Gott; ein eifersüchtiger Gott ist er; er wird euch eure Übertretungen und Sünden nicht verzeihen!
20 If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after having done you good."	20 Verlaßt ihr den Herrn und dient ihr fremdländischen Göttern, dann wendet er sich ab und wird euch Übles antun und euch aufreiben, nachdem er euch Wohltaten gespendet hat."
21 And the people said to Joshua, "Nay; but we will serve the LORD."	21 Das Volk entgegnete Josua: "Nicht doch, dem Herrn wollen wir dienen!"
22 Then Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve him." And they said, "We are witnesses."	22 Da sprach Josua zum Volke: "Zeugen seid ihr wider euch selbst, daß ihr euch den Herrn gewählt habt, um ihm zu dienen." Sie sprachen: "Ja, wir sind Zeugen!"
23 He said, "Then put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD, the God of Israel."	23 "So entfernt nun die fremdländischen Götter, die mitten unter euch sind, und neigt euer Herz dem Herrn, dem Gott Israels, zu!"
24 And the people said to Joshua, "The LORD our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey."	24 Das Volk bekräftigte Josua: "Dem Herrn, unserm Gott, wollen wir dienen und seiner Stimme gehorchen!"
25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem.	25 Da schloß Josua für das Volk an jenem Tag einen Bund. Er gab ihm Satzung und Recht zu Sichem.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak in the sanctuary of the LORD.	26 Josua schrieb jene Worte in das Gesetzbuch Gottes; er nahm einen großen Stein und errichtete ihn daselbst unter der Eiche beim Heiligtum des Herrn.
27 And Joshua said to all the people, "Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke to us; therefore it shall be a witness against you, lest you deal falsely with your God."	27 Und Josua sprach zum ganzen Volke: "Hier, dieser Stein sei Zeuge gegen uns; denn er hörte alle Worte des Herrn, die er zu uns geredet hat. Er sei auch Zeuge gegen euch, damit ihr euren Gott nicht verleugnet."
28 So Joshua sent the people away, every man to his inheritance.	28 Danach entließ Josua das Volk, einen jeden in sein Besitztum.
29 After these things Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being a hundred and ten years old.	29 Nach diesen Begebenheiten starb Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der Knecht des Herrn; er war hundertzehn Jahre alt.
30 And they buried him in his own inheritance at Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash.	30 Man begrub ihn im Bereich seines Erbbesitzes zu Timnat-Serach auf dem Gebirge Ephraim nördlich vom Berge Gaasch.
31 And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua and had known all the work which the LORD did for Israel.	31 Israel diente dem Herrn die ganze Lebenszeit des Josua und die ganze Lebenszeit der Ältesten, die Josua noch lange überlebten und die alle die Werke kannten, die der Herr für Israel getan hatte.
32 The bones of Joseph which the people of Israel brought up from Egypt were buried at Shechem, in the portion of ground which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money; it became an inheritance of the descendants of Joseph.	32 Die Gebeine Josephs aber, welche die Israeliten aus Ägypten mitgeführt hatten, begrub man in Sichem auf dem Feldgrundstück, das Jakob von den Söhnen Chamors, des Vaters Sichems, um hundert Kesita erworben hatte. Es war den Nachkommen Josephs als Erbbesitz zugefallen.
33 And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him at Gibe-ah, the town of Phinehas his son, which had been given him in the hill country of Ephraim.	33 Auch Eleasar, der Sohn Aarons, starb. Man begrub ihn in Gibea, (der Stadt) seines Sohnes Pinchas, die ihm auf dem Gebirge Ephraim verliehen worden war.
