Joshua 24

1 Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and summoned the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers of Israel; and they presented themselves before God.	1 Aztán Józsue egybegyűjtötte Izrael valamennyi törzsét Szíchembe, összehívatta a véneket, a fejedelmeket, a bírákat s az elöljárókat, s amikor azok odaálltak az Úr elé,
2 And Joshua said to all the people, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Your fathers lived of old beyond the Euphrates, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods.	2 így szólt a néphez: »Ezt üzeni az Úr, Izrael Istene: A folyóvízen túl laktak eleinte atyáitok, Táré, Ábrahámnak és Náchornak atyja és más isteneknek szolgáltak.
3 Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan, and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac;	3 Éppen azért kihoztam atyátokat, Ábrahámot Mezopotámia határaiból, elvittem Kánaán földjére, megsokasítottam ivadékát
4 and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. And I gave Esau the hill country of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.	4 és adtam neki Izsákot, Izsáknak pedig adtam Jákobot és Ézsaut. Ezek közül Ézsaunak odaadtam Szeír hegyét birtokul, Jákob pedig és fiai lementek Egyiptomba.
5 And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt with what I did in the midst of it; and afterwards I brought you out.	5 Aztán elküldtem Mózest és Áront és megvertem Egyiptomot sok jellel és csodával.
6 Then I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.	6 Majd kihoztalak titeket s atyáitokat Egyiptomból és eljutottatok a tengerhez, s az egyiptomiak harciszekerekkel és lovassággal egészen a Vörös-tengerig űzték atyáitokat.
7 And when they cried to the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and made the sea come upon them and cover them; and your eyes saw what I did to Egypt; and you lived in the wilderness a long time.	7 Ekkor Izrael fiai az Úrhoz kiáltottak: s ő sötétséget vetett közétek és az egyiptomiak közé. Rájuk zúdította a tengert, s az elborította őket, a ti szemetek pedig nézte mindazt, amit Egyiptommal cselekedtem. Aztán hosszú ideig a pusztában laktatok.
8 Then I brought you to the land of the Amorites, who lived on the other side of the Jordan; they fought with you, and I gave them into your hand, and you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you.	8 Majd bevittelek titeket az amoriták földjére, akik a Jordánon túl laktak, s amikor azok hadba szálltak ellenetek, kezetekbe adtam őket, s ti elfoglaltátok földjüket, és megöltétek őket.
9 Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel; and he sent and invited Balaam the son of Beor to curse you,	9 Aztán meg Bálák, Szefor fia, Moáb királya kelt harcra Izraellel és elküldött és elhívatta Bálámot, Beor fiát, hogy átkozzon meg titeket,
10 but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you; so I delivered you out of his hand.	10 de én nem akartam őt meghallgatni, sőt ellenkezőleg, megáldattalak vele titeket, s így megszabadítottalak titeket kezéből.
11 And you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho, and the men of Jericho fought against you, and also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I gave them into your hand.	11 Majd átjöttetek a Jordánon, s eljutottatok Jerikóhoz, és ennek a városnak az emberei, az amoriták, a periziták, a kánaániak, a hetiták, a girgasiták, a hivviták meg a jebuziták hadba szálltak ellenetek, de én a kezetekbe adtam őket.
12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out before you, the two kings of the Amorites; it was not by your sword or by your bow.	12 Darazsakat küldtem el előttetek, s így vetettem ki helyükből őket, az amoriták két királyát – nem a te kardod és íjad által.
13 I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities which you had not built, and you dwell therein; you eat the fruit of vineyards and oliveyards which you did not plant.'	13 Így adtam nektek földet, amelyért nem fáradtatok, s városokat, amelyeket nem építettetek, hogy bennük lakjatok, szőlőket s olajfákat, amelyeket nem ültettetek.
14 "Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.	14 Nos tehát féljétek az Urat, s szolgáljatok neki egész és igaz szívvel: távolítsátok el azokat az isteneket, akiknek Mezopotámiában s Egyiptomban atyáitok szolgáltak és az Úrnak szolgáljatok.
15 And if you be unwilling to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."	15 Ha azonban rossznak látjátok, hogy az Úrnak szolgáljatok: választhattok. Válasszátok ma, ami tetszik, kinek akartok inkább szolgálni: azoknak az isteneknek-e, akiknek atyáitok szolgáltak Mezopotámiában, vagy az amoriták isteneinek, akiknek földjén laktok: én és házam azonban az Úrnak fogunk szolgálni.«
16 Then the people answered, "Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;	16 Azt felelte erre a nép: »Távol legyen tőlünk, hogy elhagyjuk az Urat és más isteneknek szolgáljunk.
17 for it is the LORD our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, and who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed;	17 Az Úr, a mi Istenünk. Ő hozott ki minket s atyáinkat Egyiptom földjéről, a rabszolgaság házából, Ő vitt végbe szemünk láttára igen nagy jeleket, Ő őrzött minket az egész úton, amelyen jártunk, s azok között a népek között, amelyek között átjöttünk,
18 and the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land; therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God."	18 s Ő vetett ki minden nemzetet az amoritákkal, ennek a földnek, amelyre bejöttünk, lakóival együtt. Az Úrnak fogunk tehát szolgálni, mert Ő a mi Istenünk.«
19 But Joshua said to the people, "You cannot serve the LORD; for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.	19 Azt mondta erre Józsue a népnek: »Nem szolgálhattok az Úrnak, mert Ő szent és erősen féltékeny Isten, s nem nézi el vétkeiteket s bűneiteket:
20 If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after having done you good."	20 ha elhagyjátok az Urat, s idegen isteneknek szolgáltok, akkor Ő elfordul tőletek, és megsanyargat és elpusztít titeket, bár azelőtt jót tett veletek.«
21 And the people said to Joshua, "Nay; but we will serve the LORD."	21 Azt mondta erre a nép Józsuénak: »Nem lesz úgy, amint mondod: mert az Úrnak fogunk szolgálni.«
22 Then Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve him." And they said, "We are witnesses."	22 Azt mondta erre Józsue a népnek: »Tanúi vagytok annak, hogy ti választottátok magatoknak az Urat, hogy neki szolgáljatok.« Azt felelték: »Tanúi vagyunk.«
23 He said, "Then put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD, the God of Israel."	23 Ő erre azt mondta: »Nos, akkor távolítsátok el magatok közül az idegen isteneket, s hajtsátok szíveteket az Úrhoz, Izrael Istenéhez.«
24 And the people said to Joshua, "The LORD our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey."	24 Azt mondta erre a nép Józsuénak: »Az Úrnak, a mi Istenünknek fogunk szolgálni, s az ő parancsainak fogunk engedelmeskedni.«
25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem.	25 Erre Józsue megkötötte a szövetséget azon a napon, s a nép elé terjesztette a parancsokat és a rendeleteket Szíchemben.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak in the sanctuary of the LORD.	26 Majd beírta mindezeket a szavakat az Úr törvényének könyvébe és fogott egy igen nagy követ, s odatette az alá a tölgyfa alá, amely az Úr szent helyén volt,
27 And Joshua said to all the people, "Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke to us; therefore it shall be a witness against you, lest you deal falsely with your God."	27 s azt mondta az egész népnek: »Íme, ez a kő szolgáljon bizonyságul ellenetek, mert ez hallotta az Úr minden szavát, amelyet nektek mondott, hogy később le ne akarjátok tagadni és hazudni az Úrnak, a ti Isteneteknek.«
28 So Joshua sent the people away, every man to his inheritance.	28 Aztán elbocsátotta a népet, mindenkit a birtokára.
29 After these things Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being a hundred and ten years old.	29 Ezek után meghalt Józsue, Nún fia, az Úr szolgája száztíz éves korában
30 And they buried him in his own inheritance at Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash.	30 és eltemették birtokának határában, Tamnát-Száréban, amely Efraim hegységén, Gaás hegyétől északra fekszik.
31 And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua and had known all the work which the LORD did for Israel.	31 Izrael az Úrnak szolgált Józsue és azon vének valamennyi napja alatt, akik még hosszú ideig éltek Józsue után, s akik tudtak az Úr minden tettéről, amelyeket Izraellel művelt.
32 The bones of Joseph which the people of Israel brought up from Egypt were buried at Shechem, in the portion of ground which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money; it became an inheritance of the descendants of Joseph.	32 Eltemették József csontjait is, amelyeket Izrael fiai felhoztak Egyiptomból, éspedig Szíchemben, azon a meződarabon, amelyet Jákob vett meg Szíchem atyjának, Hémornak fiaitól száz fiatal juhon, s amely József fiainak birtoka lett.
33 And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him at Gibe-ah, the town of Phinehas his son, which had been given him in the hill country of Ephraim.	33 Meghalt Eleazár, Áron fia is, s eltemették fiának, Fineesznek Gibeájában, amely neki jutott birtokul Efraim hegységén.
