1 And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.	1 Cuando Jesús acabó de dar instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en sus ciudades.
2 Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples	2 Juan, que había oído en la cárcel las obras del Mesías, mandó a sus discípulos a preguntarle:
3 and said to him, "Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?"	3 «¿Eres tú el que ha de venir o tenemos que esperar a otro?».
4 And Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see:	4 Jesús les respondió: «Id a anunciar a Juan lo que estáis viendo y oyendo:
5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.	5 los ciegos ven y los cojos andan; los leprosos quedan limpios y los sordos oyen; los muertos resucitan y los pobres son evangelizados.
6 And blessed is he who takes no offense at me."	6 ¡Y bienaventurado el que no se escandalice de mí!».
7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?	7 Al irse ellos, Jesús se puso a hablar a la gente sobre Juan: «¿Qué salisteis a contemplar en el desierto, una caña sacudida por el viento?
8 Why then did you go out? To see a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who wear soft raiment are in kings' houses.	8 ¿O qué salisteis a ver, un hombre vestido con lujo? Mirad, los que visten con lujo habitan en los palacios.
9 Why then did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.	9 Entonces, ¿a qué salisteis?, ¿a ver a un profeta? Sí, os digo, y más que profeta.
10 This is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.'	10 Este es de quien está escrito: “Yo envío a mi mensajero delante de ti, el cual preparará tu camino ante ti”.
11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.	11 En verdad os digo que no ha nacido de mujer uno más grande que Juan el Bautista; aunque el más pequeño en el reino de los cielos es más grande que él.
12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force.	12 Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora el reino de los cielos sufre violencia y los violentos lo arrebatan.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John;	13 Los Profetas y la Ley han profetizado hasta que vino Juan;
14 and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.	14 él es Elías, el que tenía que venir, con tal que queráis admitirlo.
15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.	15 El que tenga oídos, que oiga.
16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places and calling to their playmates,	16 ¿A quién compararé esta generación? Se asemeja a unos niños sentados en la plaza, que gritan diciendo:
17 'We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.'	17 “Hemos tocado la flauta, y no habéis bailado; hemos entonado lamentaciones, y no habéis llorado”.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon';	18 Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: “Tiene un demonio”.
19 the Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds."	19 Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Ahí tenéis a un comilón y borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores”. Pero la sabiduría se ha acreditado por sus obras».
20 Then he began to upbraid the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.	20 Entonces se puso Jesús a recriminar a las ciudades donde había hecho la mayor parte de sus milagros, porque no se habían convertido:
21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Beth-saida! for if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 «¡Ay de ti, Corozaín, ay de ti, Betsaida! Si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubieran hecho los milagros que en vosotras, hace tiempo que se habrían convertido, cubiertas de sayal y ceniza.
22 But I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.	22 Pues os digo que el día del juicio les será más llevadero a Tiro y a Sidón que a vosotras.
23 And you, Caperna-um, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.	23 Y tú, Cafarnaún, ¿piensas escalar el cielo? Bajarás al abismo. Porque si en Sodoma se hubieran hecho los milagros que en ti, habría durado hasta hoy.
24 But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."	24 Pues os digo que el día del juicio le será más llevadero a Sodoma que a ti».
25 At that time Jesus declared, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes;	25 En aquel momento tomó la palabra Jesús y dijo: «Te doy gracias, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has escondido estas cosas a los sabios y entendidos, y se las has revelado a los pequeños.
26 yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.	26 Sí, Padre, así te ha parecido bien.
27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.	27 Todo me ha sido entregado por mi Padre, y nadie conoce al Hijo más que el Padre, y nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.	28 Venid a mí todos los que estáis cansados y agobiados, y yo os aliviaré.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.	29 Tomad mi yugo sobre vosotros y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón, y encontraréis descanso para vuestras almas.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."	30 Porque mi yugo es llevadero y mi carga ligera».
