1 "And now, O priests, this command is for you.	1 Jetzt ergeht über euch dieser Beschluss, ihr Priester:
2 If you will not listen, if you will not lay it to heart to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; indeed I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart.	2 Wenn ihr nicht hört und nicht von Herzen darauf bedacht seid, meinen Namen in Ehren zu halten - spricht der Herr der Heere -, dann schleudere ich meinen Fluch gegen euch und verfluche den Segen, der auf euch ruht, ja, ich verfluche ihn, weil ihr nicht von Herzen darauf bedacht seid.
3 Behold, I will rebuke your offspring, and spread dung upon your faces, the dung of your offerings, and I will put you out of my presence.	3 Seht, ich schlage euch den Arm ab und werfe euch Unrat ins Gesicht, den Unrat eurer Feste, und man wird euch zu ihm hinausschaffen.
4 So shall you know that I have sent this command to you, that my covenant with Levi may hold, says the LORD of hosts.	4 Dann werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich es bin, der diesen Beschluss über euch ergehen ließ, weil ich einen Bund mit Levi habe, spricht der Herr der Heere.
5 My covenant with him was a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him, that he might fear; and he feared me, he stood in awe of my name.	5 Mein Bund bedeutete für ihn Leben und Heil; beides gab ich ihm, dazu die Furcht: Er sollte mich fürchten und vor meinem Namen erschrecken.
6 True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity.	6 Zuverlässige Belehrung kam aus seinem Mund, nichts Verkehrtes fand sich auf seinen Lippen, in Frieden und Aufrichtigkeit ging er mit mir seinen Weg und viele hielt er davon ab, schuldig zu werden.
7 For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and men should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.	7 Denn die Lippen des Priesters bewahren die Erkenntnis und aus seinem Mund erwartet man Belehrung; denn er ist der Bote des Herrn der Heere.
8 But you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your instruction; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts,	8 Ihr aber, ihr seid abgewichen vom Weg und habt viele zu Fall gebracht durch eure Belehrung; ihr habt den Bund Levis zunichte gemacht, spricht der Herr der Heere.
9 and so I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you have not kept my ways but have shown partiality in your instruction."	9 Darum mache ich euch verächtlich und erniedrige euch vor dem ganzen Volk, weil ihr euch nicht an meine Wege haltet und auf die Person seht bei der Belehrung.
10 Have we not all one father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?	10 Haben wir nicht alle denselben Vater? Hat nicht der eine Gott uns alle erschaffen? Warum handeln wir dann treulos, einer gegen den andern, und entweihen den Bund unserer Väter?
11 Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the LORD, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.	11 Treulos hat Juda gehandelt und Gräueltaten sind [in Israel und] in Jerusalem geschehen:Juda hat das Heiligtum des Herrn [das er liebt] entweiht und die Tochter eines fremden Gottes zur Frau genommen.
12 May the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob, for the man who does this, any to witness or answer, or to bring an offering to the LORD of hosts!	12 Der Herr versage dem, der so handelt, einen, der für ihn zeugt und für ihn spricht, in den Zelten Jakobs einen, der dem Herrn der Heere Opfer darbringt.
13 And this again you do. You cover the LORD's altar with tears, with weeping and groaning because he no longer regards the offering or accepts it with favor at your hand.	13 Außerdem bedeckt ihr den Altar des Herrn mit Tränen, ihr weint und klagt, weil er sich eurem Opfer nicht mehr zuwendet und es nicht mehr gnädig annimmt aus eurer Hand.
14 You ask, "Why does he not?" Because the LORD was witness to the covenant between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.	14 Und wenn ihr fragt: Warum?: Weil der Herr Zeuge war zwischen dir und der Frau deiner Jugend, an der du treulos handelst, obwohl sie deine Gefährtin ist, die Frau, mit der du einen Bund geschlossen hast.
15 Has not the one God made and sustained for us the spirit of life? And what does he desire? Godly offspring. So take heed to yourselves, and let none be faithless to the wife of his youth.	15 Hat er nicht eine Einheit geschaffen, ein lebendiges Wesen? Was ist das Ziel dieser Einheit? Nachkommen von Gott. Nehmt euch also um eures Lebens willen in Acht! Handle nicht treulos an der Frau deiner Jugend!
16 "For I hate divorce, says the LORD the God of Israel, and covering one's garment with violence, says the LORD of hosts. So take heed to yourselves and do not be faithless."	16 Wenn einer seine Frau aus Abneigung verstößt, [spricht der Herr, Israels Gott,] dann befleckt er sich mit einer Gewalttat, spricht der Herr der Heere. Nehmt euch also um eures Lebens willen in Acht und handelt nicht treulos!
17 You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, "How have we wearied him?" By saying, "Every one who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delights in them." Or by asking, "Where is the God of justice?"	17 Ihr ermüdet den Herrn mit euren Reden und ihr fragt: Wodurch ermüden wir ihn?Dadurch, dass ihr sagt: Jeder, der Böses tut, ist gut in den Augen des Herrn, an solchen Leuten hat er Gefallen. Oder auch: Wo ist denn Gott, der Gericht hält?
