Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition La Biblia
How the Lord in his anger has set the daughter of Zion under a cloud! He has cast down from heaven to earth the splendor of Israel; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.1 (Álef) ¡Cómo ha nublado el Señor, | en su ira, a la hija de Sión!; | ha precipitado desde el cielo | hasta la tierra la gloria de Israel; | no se ha acordado del escabel de sus pies | en el día de su ira.
The Lord has destroyed without mercy all the habitations of Jacob; in his wrath he has broken down the strongholds of the daughter of Judah; he has brought down to the ground in dishonor the kingdom and its rulers.2 (Bet) Ha destruido el Señor, sin piedad, | todas las moradas de Jacob; | ha destrozado, lleno de cólera, | las fortalezas de la hija de Judá; | echó por tierra y profanó | el reino y a sus príncipes.
He has cut down in fierce anger all the might of Israel; he has withdrawn from them his right hand in the face of the enemy; he has burned like a flaming fire in Jacob, consuming all around.3 (Guímel) En el ardor de su ira, | quebró el poder de Israel; | retiró su diestra | delante del enemigo; | prendió en Jacob como fuego, | como llama que devora alrededor.
He has bent his bow like an enemy, with his right hand set like a foe; and he has slain all the pride of our eyes in the tent of the daughter of Zion; he has poured out his fury like fire.4 (Dálet) Tensó su arco como un enemigo, | ha afirmado su derecha; | aniquiló como un adversario | a los más apuestos; | en la tienda de la hija de Sión | derramó como fuego su furor.
The Lord has become like an enemy, he has destroyed Israel; he has destroyed all its palaces, laid in ruins its strongholds; and he has multiplied in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.5 (He) El Señor se portó como un enemigo: | devastó a Israel; | destruyó todos sus palacios, | aniquiló sus fortalezas; | multiplicó en la casa de Judá | tristeza y aflicción.
He has broken down his booth like that of a garden, laid in ruins the place of his appointed feasts; the LORD has brought to an end in Zion appointed feast and sabbath, and in his fierce indignation has spurned king and priest.6 (Vau) Destrozó su choza cual huerto, | destruyó su lugar de reunión; | el Señor dio al olvido en Sión | fiestas y sábados; | indignado y furioso ha desechado | al rey y al sacerdote.
The Lord has scorned his altar, disowned his sanctuary; he has delivered into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; a clamor was raised in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.7 (Zain) El Señor repudió su altar, | aborreció su santuario; | entregó en manos enemigas | los muros de sus palacios; | gritaban en la casa del Señor, | como en día de fiesta.
The LORD determined to lay in ruins the wall of the daughter of Zion; he marked it off by the line; he restrained not his hand from destroying; he caused rampart and wall to lament, they languish together.8 (Jet) El Señor decidió destruir | la muralla de la hija de Sión; | extendió el cordel y no contuvo | su mano destructora; | ha vestido de luto muros y baluartes, | juntos se desmoronan.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; he has ruined and broken her bars; her king and princes are among the nations; the law is no more, and her prophets obtain no vision from the LORD.9 (Tet) Se han desplomado sus puertas, | rompió y quebró sus cerrojos; | su rey y sus príncipes | están entre los gentiles, no hay ley; | tampoco sus profetas | reciben visiones del Señor.
The elders of the daughter of Zion sit on the ground in silence; they have cast dust on their heads and put on sackcloth; the maidens of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.10 (Yod) Se sientan silenciosos en el suelo | los ancianos de la hija de Sión; | cubren de polvo su cabeza | y se ciñen con saco; | humillan hasta el suelo su cabeza | las doncellas de Jerusalén.
My eyes are spent with weeping; my soul is in tumult; my heart is poured out in grief because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because infants and babes faint in the streets of the city.11 (Kaf) Se consumen en lágrimas mis ojos, | se conmueven mis entrañas; | muy profundo es mi dolor | por la ruina de la hija de mi pueblo; | los niños y lactantes desfallecen | por las plazas de la ciudad.
They cry to their mothers, "Where is bread and wine?" as they faint like wounded men in the streets of the city, as their life is poured out on their mothers' bosom.12 (Lámed) Preguntan a sus madres: | «¿Dónde hay pan y vino?», | mientras agonizan, como los heridos, | por las plazas de la ciudad, | exhalando su último aliento | en el regazo de sus madres.
What can I say for you, to what compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? What can I liken to you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For vast as the sea is your ruin; who can restore you?13 (Mem) ¿A quién te compararé, | a quién te igualaré, hija de Jerusalén?; | ¿con quién te equipararé para consolarte, | doncella, hija de Sión?; | pues es grande como el mar tu desgracia: | ¿quién te podrá curar?
Your prophets have seen for you false and deceptive visions; they have not exposed your iniquity to restore your fortunes, but have seen for you oracles false and misleading.14 (Nun) Tus profetas te ofrecieron | visiones falsas y vanas; | no denunciaron tu culpa | para que cambiara tu suerte, | sino que te anunciaron | oráculos falsos y seductores.
All who pass along the way clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem; "Is this the city which was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of all the earth?"15 (Sámek) Baten palmas contra ti | cuantos pasan por el camino; | silban y mueven su cabeza | contra la hija de Jerusalén: | «¿Es esta la ciudad más hermosa, | la alegría de toda la tierra?».
All your enemies rail against you; they hiss, they gnash their teeth, they cry: "We have destroyed her! Ah, this is the day we longed for; now we have it; we see it!"16 (Pe) Todos tus enemigos | abren su boca contra ti, | silban y rechinan los dientes, | dicen: «¡La hemos devorado! | ¡Este es el día que esperábamos, | lo hemos conseguido, lo hemos visto!».
The LORD has done what he purposed, has carried out his threat; as he ordained long ago, he has demolished without pity; he has made the enemy rejoice over you, and exalted the might of your foes.17 (Ayin) El Señor ha ejecutado sus planes, | ha cumplido su palabra, | lo que había dispuesto desde antiguo; | ha destrozado sin compasión; | hizo que el enemigo se riera de ti, | acreció el poder de tu adversario.
Cry aloud to the Lord! O daughter of Zion! Let tears stream down like a torrent day and night! Give yourself no rest, your eyes no respite!18 (Sade) Sus corazones claman al Señor. | Muralla de la hija de Sión, | ¡derrama como un torrente | tus lágrimas día y noche; | no te des tregua, | no descansen tus ojos!
Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches! Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord! Lift your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.19 (Qof) Levántate, grita en la noche, | al relevo de la guardia; | derrama como agua tu corazón | en presencia del Señor; | levanta tus manos hacia él | por la vida de tus niños, | que desfallecen de hambre | por las esquinas de las calles.
Look, O LORD, and see! With whom hast thou dealt thus? Should women eat their offspring, the children of their tender care? Should priest and prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?20 (Res) «¡Mira, Señor, y contempla | a quién has tratado así!; | ¿habrán de comer las mujeres su propio fruto, | los niños de pecho?; | ¿matarán en el santuario del Señor | a sacerdotes y profetas?
In the dust of the streets lie the young and the old; my maidens and my young men have fallen by the sword; in the day of thy anger thou hast slain them, slaughtering without mercy.21 (Sin) Yacen por tierra en las calles | niños y ancianos; | mis doncellas y mis jóvenes | han caído a espada; | los has matado en el día de tu ira, | los has inmolado sin compasión.
Thou didst invite as to the day of an appointed feast my terrors on every side; and on the day of the anger of the LORD none escaped or survived; those whom I dandled and reared my enemy destroyed.22 (Tau) Has convocado, como en día de fiesta, | terrores que me cercan; | nadie pudo escapar ni salvarse | en el día de la ira del Señor; | a cuantos cuidé y crié | mi enemigo los exterminó».
