Isaiah 9

1 But there will be no gloom for her that was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.	1 Il popolo che camminava nelle tenebre ha visto una grande luce; su coloro che abitavano in terra tenebrosa una luce rifulse.
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.	2 Hai moltiplicato la gioia, hai aumentato la letizia. Gioiscono davanti a te come si gioisce quando si miete e come si esulta quando si divide la preda.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, thou hast increased its joy; they rejoice before thee as with joy at the harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.	3 Perché tu hai spezzato il giogo che l’opprimeva, la sbarra sulle sue spalle, e il bastone del suo aguzzino, come nel giorno di Madian.
4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, thou hast broken as on the day of Midian.	4 Perché ogni calzatura di soldato che marciava rimbombando e ogni mantello intriso di sangue saranno bruciati, dati in pasto al fuoco.
5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.	5 Perché un bambino è nato per noi, ci è stato dato un figlio. Sulle sue spalle è il potere e il suo nome sarà: Consigliere mirabile, Dio potente, Padre per sempre, Principe della pace.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."	6 Grande sarà il suo potere e la pace non avrà fine sul trono di Davide e sul suo regno, che egli viene a consolidare e rafforzare con il diritto e la giustizia, ora e per sempre. Questo farà lo zelo del Signore degli eserciti.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David, and over his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and for evermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.	7 Una parola mandò il Signore contro Giacobbe, essa cadde su Israele.
8 The Lord has sent a word against Jacob, and it will light upon Israel;	8 La conoscerà tutto il popolo, gli Efraimiti e gli abitanti di Samaria, che dicevano nel loro orgoglio e nell’arroganza del loro cuore:
9 and all the people will know, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart:	9 «I mattoni sono caduti, ricostruiremo in pietra; i sicomòri sono stati abbattuti, li sostituiremo con cedri».
10 "The bricks have fallen, but we will build with dressed stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place."	10 Il Signore suscitò contro questo popolo i suoi nemici, eccitò i suoi avversari:
11 So the LORD raises adversaries against them, and stirs up their enemies.	11 gli Aramei dall’oriente, da occidente i Filistei, che divorano Israele a grandi bocconi. Con tutto ciò non si calma la sua ira e ancora la sua mano rimane stesa.
12 The Syrians on the east and the Philistines on the west devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away and his hand is stretched out still.	12 Il popolo non è tornato a chi lo percuoteva; non hanno ricercato il Signore degli eserciti.
13 The people did not turn to him who smote them, nor seek the LORD of hosts.	13 Pertanto il Signore ha amputato a Israele capo e coda, palma e giunco in un giorno.
14 So the LORD cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day--	14 L’anziano e i notabili sono il capo, il profeta, maestro di menzogna, è la coda.
15 the elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;	15 Le guide di questo popolo lo hanno fuorviato e quelli che esse guidano si sono perduti.
16 for those who lead this people lead them astray, and those who are led by them are swallowed up.	16 Perciò il Signore non avrà clemenza verso i suoi giovani, non avrà pietà degli orfani e delle vedove, perché tutti sono empi e perversi; ogni bocca proferisce parole stolte. Con tutto ciò non si calma la sua ira e ancora la sua mano rimane stesa.
17 Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, and has no compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is godless and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away and his hand is stretched out still.	17 Sì, brucia l’iniquità come fuoco che divora rovi e pruni, divampa nel folto della selva, da dove si sollevano colonne di fumo.
18 For wickedness burns like a fire, it consumes briers and thorns; it kindles the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke.	18 Per l’ira del Signore degli eserciti brucia la terra e il popolo è dato in pasto al fuoco; nessuno ha pietà del proprio fratello.
19 Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts the land is burned, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no man spares his brother.	19 Dilania a destra, ma è ancora affamato, mangia a sinistra, ma senza saziarsi; ognuno mangia la carne del suo vicino.
20 They snatch on the right, but are still hungry, and they devour on the left, but are not satisfied; each devours his neighbor's flesh,	20 Manasse contro Èfraim ed Èfraim contro Manasse, tutti e due insieme contro Giuda. Con tutto ciò non si calma la sua ira e ancora la sua mano rimane stesa.
21 Manasseh Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh, and together they are against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away and his hand is stretched out still.
