Wisdom 9

Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
"O God of my fathers and Lord of mercy, who hast made all things by thy word,1 «O Dio dei padri e Signore misericordioso, che hai creato tutte le cose con la tua parola
and by thy wisdom hast formed man, to have dominion over the creatures thou hast made,2 e con la tua sapienza hai formato l’uomo, così da dominare le creature fatte da te,
and rule the world in holiness and righteousness, and pronounce judgment in uprightness of soul,3 da governare l’universo con santità e giustizia e rendere giudizio con rettitudine di animo,
give me the wisdom that sits by thy throne, and do not reject me from among thy servants.4 concedimi la sapienza, che siede accanto al tuo trono, e non eliminarmi dal numero dei tuoi servitori,
For I am thy slave and the son of thy maidservant, a man who is weak and short-lived, with little understanding of judgment and laws;5 perché io sono tuo schiavo e figlio della tua ancella, uomo debole e di breve durata, e lento a capire il giudizio e le leggi.
for even if one is perfect among the sons of men, yet without the wisdom that comes from thee he will be regarded as nothing.6 Poiché anche se uno fosse il più perfetto tra i figli dell’uomo, senza la sapienza mandata da te è stimato un nulla!
Thou hast chosen me to be king of thy people and to be judge over thy sons and daughters.7 Tu mi hai prescelto re del tuo popolo e giudice dei tuoi figli e figlie:
Thou hast given command to build a temple on thy holy mountain, and an altar in the city of thy habitation, a copy of the holy tent which thou didst prepare from the beginning.8 mi hai ordinato di edificare un tempio sul tuo santo monte, e un altare nella città dove eri attendato: copia della santa tenda, che disponesti fin da principio.
With thee is wisdom, who knows thy works and was present when thou didst make the world, and who understand what is pleasing in thy sight and what is right according to thy commandments.9 Ora è con te la sapienza, che ben conosce le tue opere; che era presente quando creavi il mondo e sa che cosa fa piacere ai tuoi occhi e ciò che è retto secondo i tuoi precetti.
Send her forth from the holy heavens, and from the throne of thy glory send her, that she may be with me and toil, and that I may learn what is pleasing to thee.10 Inviala dai santi cieli e mandala dal tuo trono glorioso, affinché, presente, lavori con me, e io sappia ciò che ti fa piacere.
For she knows and understands all things, and she will guide me wisely in my actions and guard me with her glory.11 Essa, infatti, sa tutto e intende e mi guiderà con saggezza nelle mie azioni, e mi custodirà con il suo splendore.
Then my works will be acceptable, and I shall judge thy people justly, and shall be worthy of the throne of my father.12 Saranno così gradite le mie opere; governerò il tuo popolo con giustizia e sarò degno del trono di mio padre.
For what man can learn the counsel of God? Or who can discern what the Lord wills?13 Quale uomo, infatti, può conoscere i disegni di Dio? O chi può pensare ciò che vuole il Signore?
For the reasoning of mortals is worthless, and our designs are likely to fail,14 E, certo, i piani dei mortali sono dubbi e fallibili le nostre deliberazioni,
for a perishable body weighs down the soul, and this earthy tent burdens the thoughtful mind.15 perché il corpo corruttibile pesa sull’anima e la dimora terrena opprime una mente presa da molte ansie.
We can hardly guess at what is on earth, and what is at hand we find with labor; but who has traced out what is in the heavens?16 Ora a stento congetturiamo le cose terrene e troviamo penosamente quelle che sono nelle mani; ma chi può scoprire quelle celesti?
Who has learned thy counsel, unless thou hast given wisdom and sent thy holy Spirit from on high?17 Chi avrebbe potuto conoscere i tuoi disegni, se tu non avessi donato la sapienza e inviato il tuo santo spirito dall’alto?
And thus the paths of those on earth were set right, and men were taught what pleases thee, and were saved by wisdom."18 Così vennero raddrizzati i sentieri di chi è in terra, e gli uomini furono ammaestrati in ciò che ti piace e furono salvi per opera della sapienza».
