1 Wisdom protected the first-formed father of the world, when he alone had been created; she delivered him from his transgression,	1 primo uomo plasmato da Dio padre del mondo, creato da solo, ella lo custodi;
2 and gave him strength to rule all things.	2 e lo trasse fuori dal proprio peccato, e gli diè potere di dominare ogni cosa.
3 But when an unrighteous man departed from her in his anger, he perished because in rage he slew his brother.	3 Ma allontanatosi da lei l'ingiusto nell'ira sua, per il furor fratricida peri.
4 When the earth was flooded because of him, wisdom again saved it, steering the righteous man by a paltry piece of wood.	4 Sommersa poi a cagion di lui la terra, la salvò di nuovo la sapienza, sur un vile legno guidando il giusto.
5 Wisdom also, when the nations in wicked agreement had been confounded, recognized the righteous man and preserved him blameless before God, and kept him strong in the face of his compassion for his child.	5 Ella, quando nella concordia dell'iniquità si fuser le genti, scopri il giusto e lo custodi irreprensibile dinanzi a Dio, e contro la tenerezza per il figliuolo lo conservò forte.
6 Wisdom rescued a righteous man when the ungodly were perishing; he escaped the fire that descended on the Five Cities.	6 Ella, tra il perir degli empi, liberò il giusto sfuggito al fuoco cadente sulla Pentapoli;
7 Evidence of their wickedness still remains: a continually smoking wasteland, plants bearing fruit that does not ripen, and a pillar of salt standing as a monument to an unbelieving soul.	7 e a testimonianza della loro malvagità resta una terra deserta, fumigante, e piante che portan frutti fuor di stagione e — monumento d'un'anlma incredula — una colonna ritta di sale.
8 For because they passed wisdom by, they not only were hindered from recognizing the good, but also left for mankind a reminder of their folly, so that their failures could never go unnoticed.	8 Mettendo da parte. Infatti, la sapienza, non solo fecero danno a sè col non conoscere il bene; ma della loro stoltezza lasciarono anche un ricordo ai viventi, affinchè i loro falli non potessero restar nascosti.
9 Wisdom rescued from troubles those who served her.	9 Ma la sapienza, i suoi servi fedeli li salvò dai travagli.
10 When a righteous man fled from his brother's wrath, she guided him on straight paths; she showed him the kingdom of God, and gave him knowledge of angels; she prospered him in his labors, and increased the fruit of his toil.	10 Ella il giusto che fuggiva l'ira fraterna guidò per vie rette; e gli mostrò il regno di Dio e gli dette la scienza delle cose sante; lo fé, prosperare nelle sue fatiche e colmò [d'abbondante frutto] i suoi lavori;
11 When his oppressors were covetous, she stood by him and made him rich.	11 l'assistette contro le frodi [e l'ingordigia] de, suoi oppressori, e l’arricchì;
12 She protected him from his enemies, and kept him safe from those who lay in wait for him; in his arduous contest she gave him the victory, so that he might learn that godliness is more powerful than anything.	12 lo custodì da' nemici e dagli insidiatori lo mise al sicuro; gli procacciò la vittoria in una vigorosa lotta, perchè imparasse che più forte d'ogni cosa è la sapienza,
13 When a righteous man was sold, wisdom did not desert him, but delivered him from sin. She descended with him into the dungeon,	13 Ella non abbandonò il giusto venduto, ma lo salvò dal peccatori; scese con lui nella fossa,
14 and when he was in prison she did not leave him, until she brought him the scepter of a kingdom and authority over his masters. Those who accused him she showed to be false, and she gave him everlasting honor.	14 e nelle catene non l'abbandonò; finché apportò a lui lo scettro del regno e potestà sul suoi oppressori; e bugiardi dimostrò coloro che l’avevano infamato, e gli procacciò gloria eterna.
15 A holy people and blameless race wisdom delivered from a nation of oppressors.	15 Ella il popolo santo e l'irreprensibile stirpe liberò dalle nazioni che la tribolavano.
16 She entered the soul of a servant of the Lord, and withstood dread kings with wonders and signs.	16 Entrò nell'anima del servo del Signore, e fronteggiò re terribili con portenti e prodigi.
17 She gave holy men the reward of their labors; she guided them along a marvelous way, and became a shelter to them by day, and a starry flame through the night.	17 Rese ai giusti la mercede delle loro fatiche, li condusse per via meravigliosa, e fu per essi quasi ombra di giorno e luce stellare di notte.
18 She brought them over the Red Sea, and led them through deep waters;	18 Li trasportò attraverso il mar Rosso, e li tragittò per mezzo all'acqua molta. Sommerse poi nel mare i loro nemici, e dal profondo dell'abisso li rigettò fuori; onde i giusti rapiron le spoglie degli empi,
19 but she drowned their enemies, and cast them up from the depth of the sea.	19 e celebrarono, o Signore, il tuo santo nome, e la propugnatrice tua mano lodarono ad una voce.
20 Therefore the righteous plundered the ungodly; they sang hymns, O Lord, to thy holy name, and praised with one accord thy defending hand,	20 Perchè la sapienza aprì la bocca de, mutoli, e le lingue de' bambini rese eloquenti.
21 because wisdom opened the mouth of the dumb, and made the tongues of babes speak clearly.
