1 And Elihu continued, and said:	1 І знову Елігу взяв говорити:
2 "Bear with me a little, and I will show you, for I have yet something to say on God's behalf.	2 «Зажди но трошки, і я тобі з’ясую, | бо ще чимало можна сказати про Бога.
3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and ascribe righteousness to my Maker.	3 Сягну знанням моїм далеко | і визнаю Творцеві моєму слушність.
4 For truly my words are not false; one who is perfect in knowledge is with you.	4 Воістину в словах моїх нема неправди, | і звершений знанням стоїть біля тебе.
5 "Behold, God is mighty, and does not despise any; he is mighty in strength of understanding.	5 Так! Бог силою великий, однак, не гордує чистим серцем.
6 He does not keep the wicked alive, but gives the afflicted their right.	6 Він не дає грішникові жити, | він бідолашним чинить правосуддя,
7 He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings upon the throne he sets them for ever, and they are exalted.	7 і праведника не позбавляє права. | Він царів ставить на престолі, | саджає їх назавжди! Але що загорділи,
8 And if they are bound in fetters and caught in the cords of affliction,	8 тому вони закуті в кайдани, | обплутані мотуззям нужди!
9 then he declares to them their work and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly.	9 Він виявляє їм діла | й переступи їхні, бо вони загорділи.
10 He opens their ears to instruction, and commands that they return from iniquity.	10 Він відкриває їм вухо на навчання, | від беззаконства велить відвернутись.
11 If they hearken and serve him, they complete their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasantness.	11 І як вони послухаються, почнуть йому служити, | то проведуть свої дні у щасті, літа свої в утісі.
12 But if they do not hearken, they perish by the sword, and die without knowledge.	12 А коли не послухаються, то пройдуть через Яму | і пропадуть у невіданні.
13 "The godless in heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when he binds them.	13 Щождо лукавих серцем, що гнів свій зберігають, | і що не звали на допомогу, коли їх в’язано,
14 They die in youth, and their life ends in shame.	14 то їхня душа загине замолоду, | життя їхнє — між розпусниками.
15 He delivers the afflicted by their affliction, and opens their ear by adversity.	15 Він бідного рятує власною його бідою | і в злиднях об’являється для його вух.
16 He also allured you out of distress into a broad place where there was no cramping, and what was set on your table was full of fatness.	16 Отож і тебе він вирве з пащі скрути, | її тобі заступить достаток щедрий, | і стіл твій буде повен туку.
17 "But you are full of the judgment on the wicked; judgment and justice seize you.	17 А наповнишся нечестивими осудами, | то спіткають тебе суд і розправа.
18 Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing; and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.	18 18 Вважай, отже, щоб не звели тебе достатком | і щоб дар великий не збив тебе з дороги!
19 Will your cry avail to keep you from distress, or all the force of your strength?	19 Хіба твої багатства безконечні щось тобі допоможуть? | Або твоєї сили всі потуги?
20 Do not long for the night, when peoples are cut off in their place.	20 О, не бажай тієї ночі, | коли народи з своїх місць ізникають!
21 Take heed, do not turn to iniquity, for this you have chosen rather than affliction.	21 Остерігайсь, не нахиляйсь до кривди: | тим бо й випробувано тебе стражданням.
22 Behold, God is exalted in his power; who is a teacher like him?	22 Бог, справді, силою великий, | і хто такий учитель, як він?
23 Who has prescribed for him his way, or who can say, 'Thou hast done wrong?	23 Хто йому вкаже його дорогу? | Хто скаже: Ти дієш кривду.
24 "Remember to extol his work, of which men have sung.	24 Тож пам’ятай: ти маєш величати його діло, | яке оспівують люди.
25 All men have looked on it; man beholds it from afar.	25 Усі люди над ним розважають, | кожний здалека дивиться на нього.
26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable.	26 Так! Бог великий, не нам його збагнути! | Число його років не має ліку.
27 For he draws up the drops of water, he distils his mist in rain	27 Він притягає води краплі | і прочищує їх на дощ у парі;
28 which the skies pour down, and drop upon man abundantly.	28 спускають його хмари, | і на натовп людей виливають.
29 Can any one understand the spreading of the clouds, the thunderings of his pavilion?	29 Хто зможе зміркувати, | доки сягають хмари | або гуркіт грому у його наметі?
30 Behold, he scatters his lightning about him, and covers the roots of the sea.	30 Він розстелює над ним свій оболок | і вкриває вершини гір.
31 For by these he judges peoples; he gives food in abundance.	31 Ними годує він народи, | дає поживу подостатком.
32 He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark.	32 Він бере блискавицю обома руками, | велить їй бити у ціль.
33 Its crashing declares concerning him, who is jealous with anger against iniquity.	33 Він нею чабана попереджає, | та й скот, що нюхом чує бурю.»
