Job 35

1 And Elihu said:	1 Dann sprach Elihu als Erwiderung:
2 "Do you think this to be just? Do you say, 'It is my right before God,'	2 "Dies also hältst du für richtig, "dies", sprichst du, "ist mein Recht gegenüber Gott",
3 that you ask, 'What advantage have I? How am I better off than if I had sinned?'	3 daß du fragst, was es dir nütze, "welchen Vorteil habe ich von meiner Sündenlosigkeit?"
4 I will answer you and your friends with you.	4 Ich will dir Worte erwidern und deinen Freunden zusammen mit dir:
5 Look at the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds, which are higher than you.	5 Blick den Himmel an und sieh; schau die Wolken hoch über dir!
6 If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against him? And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him?	6 Wenn du sündigst, was fügst du ihm zu, sind zahlreich deine Frevel, was kannst du ihm antun?
7 If you are righteous, what do you give to him; or what does he receive from your hand?	7 Handelst du recht, was schenkst du ihm damit? Oder was empfängt er aus deiner Hand?
8 Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself, and your righteousness a son of man.	8 Nur den Menschen deinesgleichen betrifft deine Missetat und nur die Menschenkinder deine Gerechtigkeit.
9 "Because of the multitude of oppressions people cry out; they call for help because of the arm of the mighty.	9 Wohl schreit man ob der Gewalttaten Menge, jammert unter der Faust der Großen,
10 But none says, 'Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night,	10 doch keiner fragt: "Wo ist Gott, mein Schöpfer, der Loblieder anstimmen läßt bei Nacht,
11 who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the air?'	11 der klüger uns macht als der Erde Tiere, weiser als die Vögel des Himmels?"
12 There they cry out, but he does not answer, because of the pride of evil men.	12 Da schreit man, doch er gibt keine Antwort wegen der Bösen Übermut.
13 Surely God does not hear an empty cry, nor does the Almighty regard it.	13 Wahrlich, Nichtiges hört Gott nicht, und der Allmächtige sieht es nicht an!
14 How much less when you say that you do not see him, that the case is before him, and you are waiting for him!	14 Erst recht, wo du sagst, du sähest ihn nimmer! Das Gericht steht bei ihm, und du mußt seiner harren!
15 And now, because his anger does not punish, and he does not greatly heed transgression,	15 Jetzt aber, weil sein Zorn nicht strafte und er nichts wußte von heftigem Auftreten,
16 Job opens his mouth in empty talk, he multiplies words without knowledge."	16 da reißt nun Job umsonst seinen Mund auf, hält große Reden voll Unverstand."
