1 On that day King Ahasuerus gave to Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her;	1 In quello stesso giorno il re Assuero donò alla regina Ester la casa d'Aman nemico dei Giudei, e Mardocheo si presentò al re, a cui Ester aveva confessato ch'egli era suo zio paterno.
2 and the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.	2 Il re, preso l'anello che aveva fatto togliere ad Aman, lo diede a Mardocheo, che Ester costituì sopra la sua casa.
3 Then Esther spoke again to the king; she fell at his feet and besought him with tears to avert the evil design of Haman the Agagite and the plot which he had devised against the Jews.	3 Non contenta di questo, Ester si gettò ai piedi del re e, parlandogli tra il pianto, lo scongiurò a ordinare d'impedire gli effetti della malizia di Aman l'Agagite e delle inique trame da lui ordite contro i Giudei.
4 And the king held out the golden scepter to Esther,	4 Il re, secondo l'uso, colla mano le stese lo scettro d'oro, col quale si dava segno di grazia, ed essa, alzatasi in piedi dinanzi a lui,
5 and Esther rose and stood before the king. And she said, "If it please the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and if the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let an order be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the provinces of the king.	5 disse: « Se così piace al re, se io ho trovato grazia ai suoi occhi, se la mia preghiera non gli sembra importuna, mi raccomando che si annullino, con nuove lettere, le antiche lettere di Aman, persecutore e nemico dei Giudei, colle quali egli aveva ordinato che in tutte le provinole del re essi fossero trucidati.
6 For how can I endure to see the calamity that is coming to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?"	6 E come io potrei sopportare la strage e lo sterminio del mio popolo? »
7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, "Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows, because he would lay hands on the Jews.	7 Il re Assuero rispose alla regina Ester e a Mardocheo Giudeo: « Io ho data a Ester la casa d'Aman, l'ho fatto mettere in croce, perchè ebbe l'ardire di metter la mano addosso ai Giudei.
8 And you may write as you please with regard to the Jews, in the name of the king, and seal it with the king's ring; for an edict written in the name of the king and sealed with the king's ring cannot be revoked."	8 Or dunque scrivete ai Giudei come vi piace, in nome del re, sigillando le lettere col mio anello ». La consuetudine voleva che nessuno ardisse opporsi alle lettere mandate a nome del re e sigillate col suo anello.
9 The king's secretaries were summoned at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and an edict was written according to all that Mordecai commanded concerning the Jews to the satraps and the governors and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to every province in its own script and to every people in its own language, and also to the Jews in their script and their language.	9 Era il terzo mese, chiamato Siban, ai ventitré del mese, quando, chiamati gli scribi e i copisti del re, furono scritte le lettere, come volle Mardocheo, ai Giudei, ai principi, ai governatori e ai giudici che presiedevano alle centoventisette provincie, dall'india all'Etiopia, provincia per provincia, popolo per popolo, secondo i loro linguaggi e i loro caratteri, e anche ai Giudei, secondo che potevano leggere e intendere.
10 The writing was in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the king's ring, and letters were sent by mounted couriers riding on swift horses that were used in the king's service, bred from the royal stud.	10 E queste lettere, mandate a nome del re, furon sigillate col suo anello, e spedite per mezzo di corrieri tali che, correndo per diverse parti in tutte le provincie, coi nuovi ordini prevenissero gli antichi.
11 By these the king allowed the Jews who were in every city to gather and defend their lives, to destroy, to slay, and to annihilate any armed force of any people or province that might attack them, with their children and women, and to plunder their goods,	11 Il re ordinò loro d'andare a trovare i Giudei in ciascuna città e di ingiunger loro d'unirsi insieme per difendere la loro vita e uccidere e sterminare tutti i loro nemici colle mogli, i figli, le case, e predarne le spoglie.
12 upon one day throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.	12 Fu stabilito per tutte le provincie un giorno di vendetta, cioè il tredici del dodicesimo mese Adar.
13 A copy of what was written was to be issued as a decree in every province, and by proclamation to all peoples, and the Jews were to be ready on that day to avenge themselves upon their enemies.	13 In sostanza la lettera notificava a tutte le regioni e a tutti i popoli soggetti all'impero del re Assuero, che gli ebrei eran preparati a vendicarsi dei loro nemici.
14 So the couriers, mounted on their swift horses that were used in the king's service, rode out in haste, urged by the king's command; and the decree was issued in Susa the capital.	14 I corrieri partirono in fretta a portare gli ordini, e l'editto del re fu affisso in Susa.
15 Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown and a mantle of fine linen and purple, while the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced.	15 Mardocheo uscì dalla presenza del re e dal palazzo, rifulgente per vesti reali di color giacinto e celeste, con una corona d'oro sul capo, e coperto d'un manto di seta e di porpora; e tutta la città n'esultò e ne fece festa.
16 The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honor.	16 Per i Giudei poi sembrò che spuntasse una nuova luce, la gioia, l'onore, il tripudio.
17 And in every province and in every city, wherever the king's command and his edict came, there was gladness and joy among the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, for the fear of the Jews had fallen upon them.	17 E in ogni nazione, città e provincia, dovunque giungevano gli ordini del re, fu tanta la gioia, tanti i banchetti, i conviti e le feste, che molti di altre nazioni e di altre religioni ne abbracciavano la religione e le cerimonie, perchè il nome giudaico incuteva a tutti grande spavento.
