Esther 8

1 On that day King Ahasuerus gave to Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her;	1 Εν τη ημερα εκεινη ο βασιλευς Ασσουηρης εδωκεν εις την Εσθηρ την βασιλισσαν τον οικον του Αμαν, του εχθρου των Ιουδαιων. Και ηλθεν ο Μαροδοχαιος ενωπιον του βασιλεως? διοτι η Εσθηρ εφανερωσε τι ητο αυτης.
2 and the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.	2 Και εκβαλων ο βασιλευς το δακτυλιδιον αυτου, το οποιον αφηρεσεν απο του Αμαν, εδωκεν αυτο εις τον Μαροδοχαιον. Και κατεστησεν η Εσθηρ τον Μαροδοχαιον επι τον οικον του Αμαν.
3 Then Esther spoke again to the king; she fell at his feet and besought him with tears to avert the evil design of Haman the Agagite and the plot which he had devised against the Jews.	3 Και ελαλησε παλιν η Εσθηρ ενωπιον του βασιλεως, και προσεπεσεν εις τους ποδας αυτου και ικετευσεν αυτον μετα δακρυων να ακυρωση την κακιαν του Αμαν του Αγαγιτου, και την σκευωριαν αυτου την οποιαν εσκευωρησε κατα των Ιουδαιων.
4 And the king held out the golden scepter to Esther,	4 Και εξετεινεν ο βασιλευς το χρυσουν σκηπτρον προς την Εσθηρ. Τοτε σηκωθεισα η Εσθηρ εσταθη ενωπιον του βασιλεως,
5 and Esther rose and stood before the king. And she said, "If it please the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and if the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let an order be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the provinces of the king.	5 και ειπεν, Εαν ηναι αρεστον εις τον βασιλεα, και εαν ευρηκα χαριν ενωπιον αυτου, και το πραγμα φαινηται ορθον εις τον βασιλεα και αρεσκηται εις εμε, ας γραφη να ανακαλεσθωσι τα γραμματα τα σκευωρηθεντα υπο του Αμαν του υιου Αμμεδαθα του Αγαγιτου, τα οποια εγραψε δια να απολεσθωσιν οι Ιουδαιοι οι εν πασαις ταις επαρχιαις του βασιλεως?
6 For how can I endure to see the calamity that is coming to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?"	6 διοτι πως δυναμαι να υποφερω να ιδω το κακον, το οποιον θελει ευρει τον λαον μου; η πως δυναμαι να υποφερω να ιδω τον αφανισμον της συγγενειας μου;
7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, "Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows, because he would lay hands on the Jews.	7 Τοτε ειπεν ο βασιλευς Ασσουηρης προς Εσθηρ την βασιλισσαν και προς τον Μαροδοχαιον τον Ιουδαιον, Ιδου, εδωκα εις την Εσθηρ τον οικον του Αμαν και αυτον εκρεμασαν επι του ξυλου, διοτι εξηπλωσε την χειρα αυτου κατα των Ιουδαιων?
8 And you may write as you please with regard to the Jews, in the name of the king, and seal it with the king's ring; for an edict written in the name of the king and sealed with the king's ring cannot be revoked."	8 σεις λοιπον γραψατε υπερ των Ιουδαιων, οπως φαινεται εις εσας καλον, εν ονοματι του βασιλεως, και σφραγισατε με το βασιλικον δακτυλιδιον? διοτι το γραμμα το γεγραμμενον εν ονοματι του βασιλεως και εσφραγισμενον με το βασιλικον δακτυλιδιον, ειναι αμετατρεπτον.
9 The king's secretaries were summoned at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and an edict was written according to all that Mordecai commanded concerning the Jews to the satraps and the governors and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to every province in its own script and to every people in its own language, and also to the Jews in their script and their language.	9 Και προσεκληθησαν οι γραμματεις του βασιλεως εν τω καιρω εκεινω εν τω τριτω μηνι, ουτος ειναι ο μην Σιβαν, την εικοστην τριτην αυτου? και εγραφη κατα παντα οσα ο Μαροδοχαιος προσεταξε, προς τους Ιουδαιους και προς τους σατραπας και διοικητας και αρχοντας των επαρχιων των απο Ινδιας εως Αιθιοπιας, εκατον εικοσιεπτα επαρχιων, εις πασαν επαρχιαν κατα το γραφειν αυτης και προς παντα λαον κατα την γλωσσαν αυτου και προς τους Ιουδαιους κατα το γραφειν αυτων και κατα την γλωσσαν αυτων.
10 The writing was in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the king's ring, and letters were sent by mounted couriers riding on swift horses that were used in the king's service, bred from the royal stud.	10 Και εγραψεν εν ονοματι του βασιλεως Ασσουηρου και εσφραγισεν αυτο με το βασιλικον δακτυλιδιον και εξαπεστειλε τα γραμματα δια ταχυδρομων εφιππων, ιππαζοντων επι ταχυποδων και γενναιων ημιονων?
11 By these the king allowed the Jews who were in every city to gather and defend their lives, to destroy, to slay, and to annihilate any armed force of any people or province that might attack them, with their children and women, and to plunder their goods,	11 δι' ων επετρεπεν ο βασιλευς εις τους Ιουδαιους τους κατα πασαν πολιν, να συναχθωσι και να σταθωσιν υπερ της ζωης αυτων, να απολεσωσι, να φονευσωσι και να αφανισωσι πασαν την δυναμιν του λαου και της επαρχιας των καταθλιβοντων αυτους, παιδια και γυναικας, και τα λαφυρα αυτων να διαρπασωσιν,
12 upon one day throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.	12 εν μια ημερα, κατα πασας τας επαρχιας του βασιλεως Ασσουηρου, τη δεκατη τριτη του δωδεκατου μηνος, ουτος ειναι ο μην Αδαρ.
13 A copy of what was written was to be issued as a decree in every province, and by proclamation to all peoples, and the Jews were to be ready on that day to avenge themselves upon their enemies.	13 Το αντιγραφον της επιστολης, το προς διαδοσιν του προσταγματος κατα πασαν επαρχιαν, εδημοσιευθη προς παντας τους λαους, δια να ηναι οι Ιουδαιοι ετοιμοι κατ' εκεινην την ημεραν να εκδικηθωσιν εναντιον των εχθρων αυτων.
14 So the couriers, mounted on their swift horses that were used in the king's service, rode out in haste, urged by the king's command; and the decree was issued in Susa the capital.	14 Και εξηλθον οι ταχυδρομοι, ιππαζοντες επι ταχυποδων ημιονων, σπευδοντες και κατεπειγομενοι υπο της προσταγης του βασιλεως. Και η διαταγη εξεδοθη εν Σουσοις τη βασιλευουση.
15 Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown and a mantle of fine linen and purple, while the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced.	15 Ο δε Μαροδοχαιος εξηλθεν απ' εμπροσθεν του βασιλεως εν στολη βασιλικη κυανη και λευκη και φορων μεγαν στεφανον χρυσουν και επενδυμα βυσσινον και πορφυρουν? και η πολις Σουσα εχαιρε και ευφραινετο.
16 The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honor.	16 Εις τους Ιουδαιους ητο φως και αγαλλιασις και χαρα και δοξα.
17 And in every province and in every city, wherever the king's command and his edict came, there was gladness and joy among the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, for the fear of the Jews had fallen upon them.	17 Και εν παση επαρχια και εν παση πολει, οπου ηλθε του βασιλεως το προσταγμα και η διαταγη, εγεινεν εις τους Ιουδαιους χαρα και αγαλλιασις, ευωχια και ημερα αγαθη. Και πολλοι εκ των λαων της γης εγειναν Ιουδαιοι διοτι ο φοβος των Ιουδαιων επεπεσεν επ' αυτους.
