1 But in the seventh year Jehoiada took courage, and entered into a compact with the commanders of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, Azariah the son of Obed, Ma-aseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri.	1 Nel settimo anno, confortato Ioiada tolse gli centurioni, cioè Azaria figliuolo di Ieroam, e Ismael figliuolo di Ioanan, e Azaria figliuolo di Obed, e Maasia figliuolo di Adaia, ed Elisafat figliuolo di Zecri; e fece patto con esso loro.
2 And they went about through Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.	2 I quali cercando tutto Giuda, congregarono i Leviti di tutte le cittadi di Giuda, e' prìncipi [delle famiglie] d'Israel, e vennero in Ierusalem.
3 And all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And Jehoiada said to them, "Behold, the king's son! Let him reign, as the LORD spoke concerning the sons of David.	3 E tutta la moltitudine fece patto col re nella casa del Signore, e Ioiada disse loro: ecco, il figliuolo del re regnerà, sì come il Signore disse sopra i figliuoli di David.
4 This is the thing that you shall do: of you priests and Levites who come off duty on the sabbath, one third shall be gatekeepers,	4 Questo è quello che voi farete.
5 and one third shall be at the king's house and one third at the Gate of the Foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.	5 La terza parte di voi, i quali venite al sabbato de' Leviti e de' sacerdoti e dei portieri, sarà alle porte; e la terza parte alla casa del re; e la terza parte alla porta la quale si chiama la porta del fondamento; e tutto l'altro popolo sia nelle case della casa del Signore.
6 Let no one enter the house of the LORD except the priests and ministering Levites; they may enter, for they are holy, but all the people shall keep the charge of the LORD.	6 E nullo altro entri nella casa del Signore, se non i sacerdoti, e de' Leviti quelli che ministrano; solamente questi entrino, però che sono santificati; e tutto l'altro popolo osservi la guardia del Signore.
7 The Levites shall surround the king, each with his weapons in his hand; and whoever enters the house shall be slain. Be with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out."	7 E i Leviti tutti circondino il re, avendo ciascuno l'arme sue; e qualunque altro entrerà nel tempio sia morto; e siano con esso il re ed entrando e uscendo.
8 The Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded. They each brought his men, who were to go off duty on the sabbath, with those who were to come on duty on the sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss the divisions.	8 Feceno adunque tutti i leviti, e tutto Giuda, secondo tutto quello ch' avea comandato Ioiada pontefice; e ciascuno tolse quelli uomini i quali erano sotto sè, e venìano per ordine al sabbato, con quelli i quali aveano fornito il sabbato e doveano uscire; e Ioiada pontefice non avea lasciato partire le compagnie, le quali erano usate di succedere l'una all'altra per ciascuna settimana.
9 And Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains the spears and the large and small shields that had been King Davids, which were in the house of God;	9 E diede Ioiada sacerdote a' centurioni lance e iscudi e iscudetti del re David, le quali avea consecrate nella casa di Dio.
10 and he set all the people as a guard for the king, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the south side of the house to the north side of the house, around the altar and the house.	10 E ordinò tutto il popolo che tenea spuntoni dalla parte diritta del tempio insino alla parte sinistra del tempio, dinanzi all'altare e al tempio, d' intorno al re.
11 Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they proclaimed him king, and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and they said, "Long live the king."	11 E menarono fuori il figliuolo del re, e puosergli la corona, e diedergli che tenesse la legge in mano, e fecerlo re; e Ioiada pontefice l' unse, e i suoi figliuoli; e desiderarono e dissero: (viva) viva il re.
12 When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she went into the house of the LORD to the people;	12 La quale cosa udita Atalia, cioè la voce di quelli che correvano e laudavano il re, entrò al po-. polo nel tempio del Signore.
13 and when she looked, there was the king standing by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpeters beside the king, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and the singers with their musical instruments leading in the celebration. And Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, "Treason! Treason!"	13 E veggendo ella il re stare sopra il grado nell' entrata, e i prìncipi e le compagnie dintorno a lui, e tutto il popolo della terra rallegrandosi, e suonando le trombe e diverse generazioni d' organi, e la voce di quelli che laudavano, isquarciò le sue vestimenta, e disse: insidie, insidie.
14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains who were set over the army, saying to them, "Bring her out between the ranks; any one who follows her is to be slain with the sword." For the priest said, "Do not slay her in the house of the LORD."	14 E uscito Ioiada pontefice ai principi e ai centurioni dello esercito, disse loro: menatela fuori del circuito del tempio, e di fuori sia morta di coltello. E comandò il sacerdote, che non fosse morta nella casa di Dio.
15 So they laid hands on her; and she went into the entrance of the horse gate of the king's house, and they slew her there.	15 E puoserli le mani nel capo, ed entrata per la porta de' cavalli della casa del re, ivi l' uccisero.
16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king that they should be the LORD's people.	16 E fece Ioiada patto tra sè, il popolo e il re, che fosse popolo di Dio.
17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and tore it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.	17 E tutto il popolo entrò nella casa di Baal, e disfecerla; e gli altari ruppero e le loro statue; e Matan sacerdote di Baal uccisono dinanzi all' altare.
18 And Jehoiada posted watchmen for the house of the LORD under the direction of the Levitical priests and the Levites whom David had organized to be in charge of the house of the LORD, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the order of David.	18 E ordinò Ioiada preposti nella casa del Signore, sotto le mani de' sacerdoti e de' Leviti, i quali ordinò David nella casa di Dio, che offerissono olocausti al Signore, sì come egli era scritto nella legge di Moisè, con allegrezza e con canti secondo la ordinazione di David.
19 He stationed the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the LORD so that no one should enter who was in any way unclean.	19 E ordinò portieri nella casa del Signore, acciò che ogni immondo di qualunque cosa non v'entrasse.
20 And he took the captains, the nobles, the governors of the people, and all the people of the land; and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD, marching through the upper gate to the king's house. And they set the king upon the royal throne.	20 E tolse i centurioni e fortissimi uomini e i principi del popolo e tutto il popolo della terra; e fecero discendere il re della casa di Dio, ed entrare per mezzo della porta di sopra nella casa del re, e puoserlo nella sedia regale.
21 So all the people of the land rejoiced; and the city was quiet, after Athaliah had been slain with the sword.	21 E tutto il popolo della terra si rallegrò, e la città sua riposò. E Atalia fu uccisa di coltello.
