1 Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, "Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant feared the LORD, but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves."	1 Una donna, moglie di uno dei discepoli dei profeti, gridò a Eliseo: "Il tuo servo, mio marito, è morto, e tu sai che il tuo servo era timorato del Signore. Ora il creditore è venuto a prendersi i miei due figli per farli suoi schiavi".
2 And Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?" And she said, "Your maidservant has nothing in the house, except a jar of oil."	2 Eliseo le domandò: "Che cosa devo fare per te? Dimmi che cosa hai in casa". Quella rispose: "La tua schiava non ha nulla in casa all'infuori di un'ampolla d'olio".
3 Then he said, "Go outside, borrow vessels of all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few.	3 Allora egli disse: "Va' fuori a chiedere vasi vuoti a tutti i tuoi vicini, e chiedine in abbondanza.
4 Then go in, and shut the door upon yourself and your sons, and pour into all these vessels; and when one is full, set it aside."	4 Poi rientrerai in casa, chiuderai la porta dietro di te e dietro i tuoi figli e verserai l'olio in tutti quei vasi, mettendoli da parte man mano che saranno pieni".
5 So she went from him and shut the door upon herself and her sons; and as she poured they brought the vessels to her.	5 Quella andò e chiuse la porta dietro di sé e dietro i suoi figli; essi le porgevano i vasi ed essa vi versava l'olio.
6 When the vessels were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another vessel." And he said to her, "There is not another." Then the oil stopped flowing.	6 Quando i vasi furono pieni, disse a un figlio: "Porgimi ancora un vaso", ma quegli rispose: "Non ce n'è più!". L'olio si fermò.
7 She came and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest."	7 Allora essa andò ad avvertire l'uomo di Dio e questi le disse: "Va' a vendere l'olio e paga il tuo debito; con il resto vivrete tu e i tuoi figli".
8 One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food.	8 Un giorno che Eliseo passava per Sunem, una donna facoltosa lo invitò a prendere cibo. Da allora, ogni volta che passava di là, si recava da lei a prendere cibo.
9 And she said to her husband, "Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, who is continually passing our way.	9 Essa disse a suo marito: "Ecco, io so che colui che passa sempre da noi è un santo uomo di Dio.
10 Let us make a small roof chamber with walls, and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there."	10 Facciamogli una piccola stanza sulla terrazza e collochiamovi per lui un letto, una tavola, una sedia e una lampada: quando verrà da noi, vi si potrà ritirare".
11 One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there.	11 Un giorno che Eliseo passò di lì, si ritirò nella camera superiore e si coricò.
12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." When he had called her, she stood before him.	12 Disse poi a Giezi, suo servo: "Chiama questa Sunamita". Egli la chiamò ed essa si presentò davanti a lui.
13 And he said to him, "Say now to her, See, you have taken all this trouble for us; what is to be done for you? Would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?" She answered, "I dwell among my own people."	13 Eliseo riprese: "Dille così: "Ecco che ti sei presa tutta questa premura per noi; che cosa posso fare per te? Devo dire qualcosa al re o al comandante dell'esercito in tuo favore?". Quella rispose: "Io abito in mezzo al mio popolo".
14 And he said, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Well, she has no son, and her husband is old."	14 Eliseo replicò: "Che cosa posso fare per lei?". Giezi rispose: "Ahimè! Essa non ha figli e suo marito è vecchio".
15 He said, "Call her." And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway.	15 Eliseo gli ordinò: "Chiamala!". Quello la chiamò, ed essa si fermò sull'uscio.
16 And he said, "At this season, when the time comes round, you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your maidservant."	16 Eliseo le disse: "In questa stagione, da qui a un anno, terrai un figlio tra le braccia". Essa disse: "No, mio signore! Non ingannare la tua serva!".
17 But the woman conceived, and she bore a son about that time the following spring, as Elisha had said to her.	17 Or la donna concepì e partorì un figlio nella stagione che aveva detto Eliseo.
18 When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers.	18 Il fanciullo si fece grande e un giorno che era andato dal padre tra i mietitori
19 And he said to his father, "Oh, my head, my head!" The father said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother."	19 disse a suo padre: "La mia testa, la mia testa!". Il padre ordinò al servo: "Portalo da sua madre!".
20 And when he had lifted him, and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died.	20 Quegli lo prese e lo portò da sua madre. Dopo essere rimasto sulle ginocchia di lei fino a mezzogiorno, morì.
21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.	21 Allora essa salì, lo adagiò sul letto dell'uomo di Dio, chiuse la porta dietro di lui ed uscì.
22 Then she called to her husband, and said, "Send me one of the servants and one of the asses, that I may quickly go to the man of God, and come back again."	22 Chiamò suo marito e gli disse: "Mandami uno dei servi e un'asina; corro dall'uomo di Dio e torno!".
23 And he said, "Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor sabbath." She said, "It will be well."	23 Quegli replicò: "Perché vuoi andare da lui proprio oggi? Non è il novilunio e neppure sabato!". Ma ella rispose: "Sta' tranquillo!".
24 Then she saddled the ass, and she said to her servant, "Urge the beast on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you."	24 Fece sellare l'asina e ordinò al servo: "Conducimi avanti e non farmi scendere finché non te lo dirò io".
25 So she set out, and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, "Look, yonder is the Shunammite;	25 Se ne andò infatti e si recò dall'uomo di Dio sul monte Carmelo. Non appena l'uomo di Dio la vide di lontano, disse a Giezi, suo servo: "Ecco quella Sunamita!
26 run at once to meet her, and say to her, Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?" And she answered, "It is well."	26 Corrile incontro e domandale: "Stai bene? Sta bene tuo marito? Sta bene il fanciullo?". Essa rispose: "Bene!".
27 And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to thrust her away. But the man of God said, "Let her alone, for she is in bitter distress; and the LORD has hidden it from me, and has not told me."	27 Giunse frattanto dall'uomo di Dio sul monte e gli abbracciò i piedi. Giezi si accostò per allontanarla, ma l'uomo di Dio gli disse: "Lasciala, perché la sua anima è amareggiata e il Signore me l'ha nascosto e non me l'ha manifestato".
28 Then she said, "Did I ask my lord for a son? Did I not say, Do not deceive me?"	28 Essa disse: "Forse che avevo chiesto un figlio al mio signore? Forse che non avevo detto: "Non m'ingannare"?".
29 He said to Gehazi, "Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go. If you meet any one, do not salute him; and if any one salutes you, do not reply; and lay my staff upon the face of the child."	29 Allora Eliseo disse a Giezi: "Cingiti i fianchi, prendi in mano il mio bastone e va'! Se incontrerai qualcuno, non salutarlo; e se qualcuno ti saluterà, non rispondergli. Porrai il mio bastone sul viso del fanciullo".
30 Then the mother of the child said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So he arose and followed her.	30 Ma la madre del fanciullo disse: "Com'è vero che il Signore vive e tu pure vivi, io non ti lascerò!". Eliseo perciò s'alzò e la seguì.
31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff upon the face of the child, but there was no sound or sign of life. Therefore he returned to meet him, and told him, "The child has not awaked."	31 Giezi li aveva preceduti ed aveva posto il bastone sul viso del fanciullo, ma non si ebbe nessuna voce o segno. Perciò se ne ritornò da Eliseo e gli riferì: "Il fanciullo non s'è svegliato!".
32 When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed.	32 Eliseo nel frattempo raggiunse la casa dove si trovava il fanciullo morto e disteso sul suo letto.
33 So he went in and shut the door upon the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.	33 Vi entrò, chiuse la porta dietro loro due e pregò il Signore.
34 Then he went up and lay upon the child, putting his mouth upon his mouth, his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands; and as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm.	34 Poi salì e si distese sul fanciullo ponendo la bocca sulla sua bocca, gli occhi sui suoi occhi, le mani sulle sue mani; si piegò sopra e la carne del fanciullo si riscaldò.
35 Then he got up again, and walked once to and fro in the house, and went up, and stretched himself upon him; the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.	35 Alzatosi, si mise a camminare su e giù per la casa; poi salì di nuovo e si piegò sette volte su di lui. Il fanciullo starnutì e aprì gli occhi.
36 Then he summoned Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite." So he called her. And when she came to him, he said, "Take up your son."	36 Eliseo allora chiamò Giezi dicendogli: "Chiama quella Sunamita!". Egli la chiamò ed essa venne da lui che le disse: "Prendi tuo figlio!".
37 She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground; then she took up her son and went out.	37 Entrata da lui, gli si gettò ai piedi e gli rese omaggio prostrandosi a terra; poi prese suo figlio e uscì.
38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, "Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets."	38 Eliseo se ne tornò a Gàlgala mentre nel paese c'era la carestia e i discepoli dei profeti erano seduti al suo cospetto. Egli disse al suo servo: "Metti sul fuoco la pentola più grande e fa' cuocere una minestra per i discepoli dei profeti".
39 One of them went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of pottage, not knowing what they were.	39 Uno di essi, ch'era uscito in campagna in cerca di verdura, trovò una vite selvatica da cui raccolse zucche selvatiche, fino a riempirne la falda della veste. Ritornato, le tagliò a pezzi e le gettò nella pentola, perché non sapeva che cosa fossero.
40 And they poured out for the men to eat. But while they were eating of the pottage, they cried out, "O man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.	40 Ne versò poi agli altri perché ne mangiassero. Appena questi ebbero gustato la minestra, gridarono: "C'è la morte nella pentola, uomo di Dio!", e non ne poterono mangiare.
41 He said, "Then bring meal." And he threw it into the pot, and said, "Pour out for the men, that they may eat." And there was no harm in the pot.	41 Il profeta ordinò: "Portatemi della farina"; la gettò nella pentola, poi disse: "Versatene alla gente perché ne mangi". E non ci fu più nulla di cattivo nella pentola.
42 A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, "Give to the men, that they may eat."	42 Venne poi un uomo di Baal-Salisa che portava all'uomo di Dio nella bisaccia pane di primizia: venti pani d'orzo e del farro. Eliseo disse: "Dalli a questa gente perché ne mangi".
43 But his servant said, "How am I to set this before a hundred men?" So he repeated, "Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the LORD, 'They shall eat and have some left.'"	43 Il suo servo obiettò: "Come posso dare questo a cento persone?". Il profeta disse: "Dalli alla gente perché ne mangi, poiché il Signore ha detto così: "Se ne mangerà e ne avanzerà!".
44 So he set it before them. And they ate, and had some left, according to the word of the LORD.	44 Quegli li diede ed essi mangiarono e ne avanzarono, secondo la parola del Signore.
