1 Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, "Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant feared the LORD, but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves."	1 Egy asszony pedig a próféták feleségei közül segítségért kiáltott Elizeushoz, mondván: »Szolgád, a férjem meghalt, s te tudod, hogy szolgád félte az Urat, s íme, eljött a hitelező, hogy elvegye két fiamat, s rabszolgáivá tegye.«
2 And Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?" And she said, "Your maidservant has nothing in the house, except a jar of oil."	2 Azt mondta neki Elizeus: »Mit akarsz, hogy cselekedjem veled? Mondd meg nekem, mid van házadban?« Ő azt felelte: »Nincs nekem, szolgálódnak semmim sem házamban, csak egy kis olajom, amellyel kenni szoktam magamat.«
3 Then he said, "Go outside, borrow vessels of all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few.	3 Azt mondta erre neki: »Eredj, kérj kölcsön minden szomszédasszonyodtól üres edényeket, de ne keveset,
4 Then go in, and shut the door upon yourself and your sons, and pour into all these vessels; and when one is full, set it aside."	4 aztán menj be házadba, s ha benn leszel fiaiddal együtt, zárd be ajtódat, s tölts olajodból mindezekbe az edényekbe, s ha megtelnek, állítsd őket félre.«
5 So she went from him and shut the door upon herself and her sons; and as she poured they brought the vessels to her.	5 Elment tehát az asszony, s rázárta magára s fiaira az ajtót, s azok adogatták az edényeket, ő pedig töltögetett.
6 When the vessels were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another vessel." And he said to her, "There is not another." Then the oil stopped flowing.	6 Amikor aztán megteltek az edények, azt mondta fiának: »Hozz ide nekem még edényt.« De az azt felelte: »Nincsen.« Ekkor megállt az olaj.
7 She came and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest."	7 Erre elment, s elmondta a dolgot az Isten emberének. Ő ezt mondta: »Eredj, add el az olajat, s fizesd ki hiteleződet, te pedig s fiaid éljetek abból, ami megmarad.«
8 One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food.	8 Történt pedig egy napon, hogy Elizeus keresztülment Sunámon. Volt azonban ott egy előkelő asszony, s az feltartóztatta, hogy étkezzék nála. Így aztán valahányszor arra járt, betért hozzá, hogy étkezzék.
9 And she said to her husband, "Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, who is continually passing our way.	9 Erre az asszony azt mondta férjének: »Úgy veszem észre, hogy Istennek szent embere az, aki gyakorta erre jár mifelénk.
10 Let us make a small roof chamber with walls, and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there."	10 Csináltassunk tehát neki egy kis tetőszobát, tegyünk bele neki ágyat, asztalt, széket és mécsest, hogy ha hozzánk jön, ott ellehessen.«
11 One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there.	11 Történt erre egy napon, hogy eljött és betért a tetőszobába, s ott megpihent.
12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." When he had called her, she stood before him.	12 Majd azt mondta legényének, Giezinek: »Hívd elő azt a sunemi asszonyt.« Amikor előhívta, s az elébe állt,
13 And he said to him, "Say now to her, See, you have taken all this trouble for us; what is to be done for you? Would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?" She answered, "I dwell among my own people."	13 azt mondta legényének: »Mondd neki: Íme, gondosan elláttál minket mindennel. Mit akarsz, hogy cselekedjem neked? Van-e valami ügyed, s akarod-e, hogy szóljak a királynak vagy a sereg fővezérének?« Ő azt felelte: »Én nyugodtan lakom népem között.«
14 And he said, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Well, she has no son, and her husband is old."	14 Erre ő azt mondta: »Mit akar tehát, hogy cselekedjem neki?« Azt mondta erre Giezi: »Ne is kérdezd, hiszen fia nincs, s a férje vén.«
15 He said, "Call her." And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway.	15 Erre megparancsolta, hogy hívja oda, s amikor odahívta, s az megállt az ajtóban,
16 And he said, "At this season, when the time comes round, you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your maidservant."	16 azt mondta neki: »Esztendő fordultán, ebben az időben s ugyanebben az órában fiad lesz méhedben.« Ám ő azt felelte: »Ne, kérlek uram, Isten embere, ne hazudj szolgálódnak.«
17 But the woman conceived, and she bore a son about that time the following spring, as Elisha had said to her.	17 Az asszony csakugyan fogant, s fiút szült, abban az időben s abban az órában, amelyet Elizeus mondott.
18 When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers.	18 Fel is növekedett a gyermek. Amikor azonban egy napon kiment apjához, az aratókhoz,
19 And he said to his father, "Oh, my head, my head!" The father said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother."	19 azt mondta apjának: »A fejem fáj, a fejem fáj.« Erre ő azt mondta a legénynek: »Vedd fel, s vidd el az anyjához.«
20 And when he had lifted him, and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died.	20 Az fel is vette és elvitte anyjához. Ő a térdén tartotta egészen délig, akkor meghalt.
21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.	21 Erre ő felment, rátette az Isten emberének ágyára, rázárta az ajtót, kiment,
22 Then she called to her husband, and said, "Send me one of the servants and one of the asses, that I may quickly go to the man of God, and come back again."	22 elhívta férjét és azt mondta: »Bocsáss el, kérlek, velem egy legényt meg egy szamarat, hadd siessek el az Isten emberéhez, majd visszajövök.«
23 And he said, "Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor sabbath." She said, "It will be well."	23 Ő azt mondta: »Miért mégy hozzá? Ma nincs sem újhold, sem szombat.« Ő azt felelte: »Csak hadd menjek.«
24 Then she saddled the ass, and she said to her servant, "Urge the beast on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you."	24 Azzal megnyergeltette a szamarat, s megparancsolta a legénynek: »Hajts, siess és meg ne állíts engem menetközben, hanem azt tedd, amit majd parancsolok neked.«
25 So she set out, and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, "Look, yonder is the Shunammite;	25 Elindult tehát, s eljutott az Isten emberéhez, a Kármel hegyére. Amikor az Isten embere átellenből meglátta, azt mondta legényének, Giezinek: »Íme, az a sunemi asszony.
26 run at once to meet her, and say to her, Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?" And she answered, "It is well."	26 Eredj csak eléje, s mondd neki: Jól vagy-e te s a férjed meg a fiad?« Ő azt felelte: »Jól.«
27 And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to thrust her away. But the man of God said, "Let her alone, for she is in bitter distress; and the LORD has hidden it from me, and has not told me."	27 Amikor aztán eljutott az Isten emberéhez a hegyre, megragadta lábát. Odament erre Giezi, hogy eltávolítsa, de az Isten embere azt mondta: »Hagyd csak, mert keserűségben van a lelke, de az Úr azt eltitkolta előlem, s nem adta tudtomra.«
28 Then she said, "Did I ask my lord for a son? Did I not say, Do not deceive me?"	28 Az asszony azt mondta neki: »Vajon kértem-e én fiút uramtól? Nemde azt mondtam neked: Ne ámíts engem?«
29 He said to Gehazi, "Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go. If you meet any one, do not salute him; and if any one salutes you, do not reply; and lay my staff upon the face of the child."	29 Erre ő azt mondta Giezinek: »Övezd fel derekadat, s vedd kezedbe botomat, s menj el. Ha találkozol valakivel, ne köszöntsd, s ha köszönt téged valaki, ne válaszolj neki, s tedd botomat a gyermek arcára.«
30 Then the mother of the child said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So he arose and followed her.	30 Ám a gyermek anyja azt mondta: »Az Úr életére s a te életedre mondom, hogy nem hagylak el téged.« Felkelt tehát és követte.
31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff upon the face of the child, but there was no sound or sign of life. Therefore he returned to meet him, and told him, "The child has not awaked."	31 Giezi azonban előrement, s rátette a botot a gyermek arcára, de az nem szólalt meg, s nem eszmélt fel. Erre visszatért, s jelentette neki, s azt mondta: »Nem kelt fel a gyermek.«
32 When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed.	32 Amikor Elizeus bement a házba, íme, a gyermek csakugyan holtan feküdt ágyán.
33 So he went in and shut the door upon the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.	33 Erre bement, s rázárta az ajtót magára s a gyermekre, s imádkozott az Úrhoz.
34 Then he went up and lay upon the child, putting his mouth upon his mouth, his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands; and as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm.	34 Aztán föllépett az ágyra, s ráfeküdt a gyermekre, s rátette száját a szájára, szemét a szemére, s kezét a kezére, s ráborult. Ekkor meleg lett a gyermek teste.
35 Then he got up again, and walked once to and fro in the house, and went up, and stretched himself upon him; the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.	35 Erre ő lejött, sétált egyet föl s alá a házban, aztán föllépett az ágyra, s ráfeküdt: erre a gyermek hetet ásított, s kinyitotta a szemét.
36 Then he summoned Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite." So he called her. And when she came to him, he said, "Take up your son."	36 Erre ő beszólította Giezit, s azt mondta neki: »Hívd ide azt a sunemi asszonyt.« Az a hívásra be is ment hozzá. Erre ő azt mondta: »Vedd fiadat.«
37 She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground; then she took up her son and went out.	37 Az odament, a lába elé omlott, s földig hajtotta magát, majd vette a fiát, s kiment.
38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, "Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets."	38 Elizeus erre visszatért Gilgálba. Az országban akkor éhség volt. Amikor aztán a prófétafiak letelepedtek előtte, azt mondta egyik legényének: »Tedd föl a nagy fazekat, s főzz főzeléket a prófétafiaknak.«
39 One of them went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of pottage, not knowing what they were.	39 Erre egyikük kiment a mezőre, hogy zöldséget szedjen, s vadszőlőtőhöz hasonló növényre talált. Teleszedte róla vadtökkel palástját, s miután visszatért, belevagdalta a főzelékes fazékba, mert nem tudta, hogy mi az.
40 And they poured out for the men to eat. But while they were eating of the pottage, they cried out, "O man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.	40 Ki is tálalták a társaknak, hogy egyenek, de amikor azok megízlelték a főzeléket, felkiáltottak, s azt mondták: »Halál van a fazékban, Isten embere!« – és nem tudtak enni.
41 He said, "Then bring meal." And he threw it into the pot, and said, "Pour out for the men, that they may eat." And there was no harm in the pot.	41 Erre ő így szólt: »Hozzatok lisztet!« Amikor hoztak, beleszórta a fazékba, s azt mondta: »Tálald ki a népnek, hogy egyen.« És nem volt többé semmi keserűség a fazékban.
42 A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, "Give to the men, that they may eat."	42 Majd odajött egy ember Baálsálisából, és zsengéből való kenyereket hozott az Isten emberének: húsz árpakenyeret s friss gabonát a tarisznyájában. Erre ő azt mondta: »Add oda a népnek, hadd egyen.«
43 But his servant said, "How am I to set this before a hundred men?" So he repeated, "Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the LORD, 'They shall eat and have some left.'"	43 A szolgája erre azt felelte: »Mi ez ahhoz, hogy száz ember elé adjam?« Ám ő ismét azt mondta: »Add csak oda a népnek, hadd egyen, ezt üzeni ugyanis az Úr: ‘Esznek is, marad is.’«
44 So he set it before them. And they ate, and had some left, according to the word of the LORD.	44 Odatette tehát eléjük, s ettek, s maradt is, az Úr szava szerint.
