1 Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, "Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant feared the LORD, but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves."	1 - Una donna delle mogli dei profeti gridò ad Eliseo, dicendo: «Il tuo servo, mio marito, è morto e tu sai che il tuo servo temeva il Signore; ma ora un creditore è venuto a prendere i miei due figli per farli suoi schiavi».
2 And Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?" And she said, "Your maidservant has nothing in the house, except a jar of oil."	2 Le disse Eliseo: «Che vuoi che io faccia? Dimmi che hai in casa tua?». La donna rispose: «Io, tua serva, non ho in casa mia nient'altro fuorchè un po' d'olio per ungermi».
3 Then he said, "Go outside, borrow vessels of all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few.	3 Allora egli le disse: «Vai a chiedere a prestito a tutti i vicini tuoi vasi vuoti non pochi,
4 Then go in, and shut the door upon yourself and your sons, and pour into all these vessels; and when one is full, set it aside."	4 poi entra e chiudi la porta della tua casa, e quando sarai dentro tu e i tuoi figli, versa [l'olio] in tutti questi vasi e metti da parte quelli che avrai riempiti».
5 So she went from him and shut the door upon herself and her sons; and as she poured they brought the vessels to her.	5 Andò pertanto la donna, e chiuse la porta dietro a sè e ai suoi figliuoli; questi le presentavano vasi ed ella vi versava dentro [l'olio].
6 When the vessels were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another vessel." And he said to her, "There is not another." Then the oil stopped flowing.	6 Quando i vasi furono pieni, disse a suo figlio: «Dammi ancora un vaso». Ma egli rispose: «Non ne ho più»; e l'olio si fermò.
7 She came and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest."	7 Allora essa andò a riferire tutto all'uomo di Dio ed egli le disse: «Va', vendi l'olio e paga il tuo creditore: e tu e i tuoi figliuoli vivrete di ciò che avanza».
8 One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food.	8 Un giorno Eliseo passava da Sunam, dove abitava una donna ricca, che lo trattenne perchè prendesse cibo. E siccome frequentemente passava di là e si portava da lei a mangiare,
9 And she said to her husband, "Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, who is continually passing our way.	9 essa disse a suo marito: «Io mi accorgo che costui che passa sovente da noi è un santo uomo di Dio;
10 Let us make a small roof chamber with walls, and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there."	10 così facciamogli una piccola camera e mettiamoci un letto per lui, una tavola, una sedia, e un candeliere affinchè quando verrà da noi, egli vi dimori».
11 One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there.	11 Così un giorno Eliseo arrivò e venne in quella stanza e vi si riposò,
12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." When he had called her, she stood before him.	12 e disse a Giezi suo servo: «Chiama questa Sunamita». Egli la chiamò e quando ella fu alla sua presenza,
13 And he said to him, "Say now to her, See, you have taken all this trouble for us; what is to be done for you? Would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?" She answered, "I dwell among my own people."	13 egli disse al suo servo: «Parlale in questo modo: - Ecco, tu ci hai servito in tutto con gran cura: cosa vuoi che ti faccia? Hai tu qualche affare per cui possa parlare al re o al capo dell'esercito? -». Ed essa rispose: «Io abito in mezzo al mio popolo».
14 And he said, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Well, she has no son, and her husband is old."	14 Ed egli continuò: «Che vuol dunque ch'io le faccia?». E Giezi rispose: «Non cercar altro; essa non ha figliuoli e il suo marito è vecchio».
15 He said, "Call her." And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway.	15 Comandò adunque di chiamarla; e quando essa venne e si pose dinanzi alla porta,
16 And he said, "At this season, when the time comes round, you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your maidservant."	16 Eliseo le disse: «In questo stesso tempo e a questa stessa ora, se avrai vita, concepirai un figlio». Ed essa rispose: «Non voler, mio signore, uomo di Dio, ingannare la tua ancella».
17 But the woman conceived, and she bore a son about that time the following spring, as Elisha had said to her.	17 Ma la donna concepì e partorì un figlio nel tempo e nell'ora, che Eliseo aveva fissato.
18 When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers.	18 Crebbe poi il fanciullo e un certo giorno, essendo uscito per andare dal padre suo, dov'erano i mietitori,
19 And he said to his father, "Oh, my head, my head!" The father said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother."	19 disse al padre: «Mi duole il capo, mi duole il capo». Il padre disse a un servo: «Prendilo e portalo a sua madre».
20 And when he had lifted him, and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died.	20 Il servo lo prese e lo portò alla madre sua, la quale se lo pose sulle ginocchia fin verso il mezzogiorno; poi il fanciullo morì.
21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.	21 La madre salì allora e collocò il figlio sul letto dell'uomo di Dio e chiuse la porta. Poi uscita,
22 Then she called to her husband, and said, "Send me one of the servants and one of the asses, that I may quickly go to the man of God, and come back again."	22 chiamò il marito e gli disse: «Manda, ti prego, con me uno de' tuoi servi e un'asina, perchè me ne corra dall'uomo di Dio e ritorni».
23 And he said, "Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor sabbath." She said, "It will be well."	23 Il marito le disse: «Per qual ragione vuoi andare da lui? Oggi non sono le Calende e non è sabato», ma essa rispose: «Io andrò».
24 Then she saddled the ass, and she said to her servant, "Urge the beast on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you."	24 Sellò l'asina e comandò al servo: «Conducimi in fretta, non farmi fermare lungo la via e fa' ciò che ti comando».
25 So she set out, and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, "Look, yonder is the Shunammite;	25 Partì adunque e venne dall'uomo di Dio sul monte Carmelo. L'uomo di Dio avendola vista da lontano, disse a Giezi, suo servo: «Ecco quella Sunamita;
26 run at once to meet her, and say to her, Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?" And she answered, "It is well."	26 va' incontro a lei e chiedile: - Stai bene? Tuo marito e il tuo fanciullo stanno bene? -». Essa rispose: «Bene».
27 And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to thrust her away. But the man of God said, "Let her alone, for she is in bitter distress; and the LORD has hidden it from me, and has not told me."	27 Venuta poi all'uomo di Dio, si gettò ai piedi di lui e poichè Giezi si avvicinò per allontanarla, l'uomo di Dio gli disse: «Lasciala, perchè l'anima sua è molto amareggiata e il Signore mi ha nascosto e non me ne ha fatto conoscere la causa».
28 Then she said, "Did I ask my lord for a son? Did I not say, Do not deceive me?"	28 Essa gli disse: «Ho io domandato al mio Signore un figlio? o non ho piuttosto detto a te: - Non ingannarmi -?».
29 He said to Gehazi, "Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go. If you meet any one, do not salute him; and if any one salutes you, do not reply; and lay my staff upon the face of the child."	29 Ed Eliseo disse a Giezi: «Cingiti i fianchi, prendi il mio bastone e va'. Se ti si farà incontro qualcuno, non salutarlo, o se alcuno ti saluterà, non rispondergli e metti il mio bastone sulla faccia del fanciullo».
30 Then the mother of the child said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So he arose and followed her.	30 Ma la madre del fanciullo disse: «Viva il Signore e viva l'anima tua! Io non ti lascerò». Allora egli si levò e la seguì.
31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff upon the face of the child, but there was no sound or sign of life. Therefore he returned to meet him, and told him, "The child has not awaked."	31 Frattanto Giezi li aveva preceduti e aveva posto il bastone sulla faccia del fanciullo, ma questi era restato senza voce e senza sensi. Ritornò quindi e incontratosi con loro, riferì la cosa, dicendo: «Il fanciullo non è risorto».
32 When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed.	32 Entrò adunque Eliseo nella casa. Il fanciullo morto giaceva sul suo letticciuolo.
33 So he went in and shut the door upon the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.	33 Entrato, chiuse la porta dietro a sè e dietro al fanciullo e pregò il Signore;
34 Then he went up and lay upon the child, putting his mouth upon his mouth, his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands; and as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm.	34 poi ascese sul letto, si distese sopra il fanciullo, pose la sua bocca sulla bocca di lui, i suoi occhi sugli occhi di lui, e le sue mani sulle sue mani, e distesosi sopra di lui, la carne del fanciullo si riscaldò.
35 Then he got up again, and walked once to and fro in the house, and went up, and stretched himself upon him; the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.	35 Allora si ritrasse, si mise a passeggiare nella casa di qua e in là, poi di nuovo ascese e si curvò sopra il morto e il fanciullo sbadigliò sette volte e aprì gli occhi.
36 Then he summoned Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite." So he called her. And when she came to him, he said, "Take up your son."	36 Eliseo allora chiamò Giezi e gli disse: «Chiama questa Sunamita». Chiamata, si presentò a lui, che le disse: «Prendi il tuo figliuolo».
37 She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground; then she took up her son and went out.	37 Venne essa e gettatasi ai piedi di lui si prosternò fino a terra, poi, preso il fanciullo uscì.
38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, "Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets."	38 Eliseo poi se ne ritornò in Galgala. Eravi una grande carestia nel paese e i figli dei profeti abitavano con lui. Disse ad uno dei suoi servi: «Metti la gran pentola e cuoci il cibo per i figli dei profeti».
39 One of them went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of pottage, not knowing what they were.	39 Ed uscì uno nel campo per raccogliere erba selvatica, e trovata una specie di vite selvatica staccò da essa varie colloquintidi selvatiche, e se ne empì il mantello, e ritornatosene le tagliò a pezzi e le mise nella pentola della minestra, senza sapere che cosa fossero.
40 And they poured out for the men to eat. But while they were eating of the pottage, they cried out, "O man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.	40 Versò quindi ai compagni perchè ne mangiassero, ma appena ebbero gustato quella roba cotta, gridarono ad alta voce: «La morte è nella pentola, o uomo di Dio!». E non ne poterono mangiare.
41 He said, "Then bring meal." And he threw it into the pot, and said, "Pour out for the men, that they may eat." And there was no harm in the pot.	41 Ma egli comandò che gli portassero un po' di farina e come l'ebbe avuta, la mise nella pentola, e disse: «Versatene alla gente, perchè ne mangino». E non vi fu più nulla di amaro nella pentola.
42 A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, "Give to the men, that they may eat."	42 Un uomo poi di Baalsalisa venne a portare all'uomo di Dio i pani delle primizie, cioè venti pani d'orzo e del frumento nuovo, in un sacco. Ma egli disse: «Dallo al popolo che ne mangi».
43 But his servant said, "How am I to set this before a hundred men?" So he repeated, "Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the LORD, 'They shall eat and have some left.'"	43 Gli rispose il suo servo: «Che cosa è mai ciò per porlo davanti a cento uomini?». E di nuovo egli disse: «Dallo al popolo, perchè ne mangi, poichè il Signore dice: -Ne mangeranno e ne avanzerà-».
44 So he set it before them. And they ate, and had some left, according to the word of the LORD.	44 Egli pertanto pose [quelle provviste] davanti a loro, che ne mangiarono; e ne avanzò secondo la parola del Signore.
