Philemon 1

1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother, to Philemon, our beloved fellow laborer,	1 Paul, prisonnier du Christ Jésus, et le frère Timothée, au bien-aimé Philemémon, notre collaborateur,
2 and to Apphia, most beloved sister, and to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the church which is in your house.	2 et à Appia, notre soeur très chère, et à Archippus, notre compagnon d'armes, et à l'église qui est dans la maison.
3 Grace and peace to you, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.	3 Que la grâce et la paix vous soient données par Dieu notre Père et par le Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
4 I give thanks to my God, always keeping remembrance of you in my prayers,	4 Je rends grâce à mon Dieu, faisant sans cesse mention de toi dans mes prières,
5 (for I am hearing of your charity and faith, which you have in the Lord Jesus and with all the saints)	5 parce que j'apprends quelle est ta charité et ta foi pour le Seigneur Jésus et envers tous les saints.
6 so that the participation of your faith may become evident by the recognition of every good work which is in you in Christ Jesus.	6 Je demande que ta libéralité, qui provient de la foi, devienne manifeste, se faisant connaître par toute sorte de bonnes oeuvres qui se pratiquent chez vous dans le Christ Jésus.
7 For I have found great joy and consolation in your charity, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.	7 Car j'ai ressenti une grande joie et une grande consolation au sujet de ta charité, parce que les coeurs des saints ont été soulagés par toi, frère.
8 Because of this, I have enough confidence in Christ Jesus to command you concerning certain things,	8 C'est pourquoi, bien qu'ayant en Jésus-Christ une entière liberté de t'ordonner ce qui convient,
9 but I beg you instead, for the sake of charity, since you are so much like Paul: an old man and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.	9 c'est de préférence au nom de la charité que je t'adresse une prière, tel queje suis, moi, Paul, vieillard, et de plus maintenant prisonnier de Jésus-Christ.
10 I beg you, on behalf of my son, whom I have begotten in my chains, Onesimus.	10 Je te prie pour mon fils, que j'ai engendré dans les chaînes, pour Onésime,
11 In times past, he was useless to you, but now he is useful both to me and to you.	11 qui t'a été autrefois inutile, mais qui maintenant est utile et à moi, et à toi,
12 So I have sent him back to you. And may you receive him like my own heart.	12 et que je te renvoie. Accueille-le comme mon propre coeur.
13 I myself wanted to retain him with me, so that he might minister to me, on your behalf, while I am in the chains of the Gospel.	13 Je voulais le retenir auprès de moi, pour qu'il me servît à ta place dans les chaînes que je porte pour l'Evangile;
14 But I was willing to do nothing without your counsel, so as not to make use of your good deed as if out of necessity, but only willingly.	14 mais je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton avis, afin que ton bienfait ne fût pas forcé, mais spontané.
15 So perhaps, then, he departed from you for a time, so that you might receive him again for eternity,	15 Car peut-être n'a-t-il été séparé de toi pour un temps, afin que tu le recouvres pour l'éternité,
16 no longer as a servant, but, in place of a servant, a most beloved brother, especially to me: but how much so more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord!	16 non plus désormais comme un esclave, mais comme celui qui d'esclave est devenu un frère bien-aimé, pour moi en particulier, à plus forte raison pour toi, soit dans la chair, soit dans le Seigneur.
17 Therefore, if you hold me to be a companion, receive him as you would me.	17 Si donc tu me regardes comme uni à toi, accueille-le comme moi-même;
18 But if he has harmed you in any way, or if he is in your debt, charge it to me.	18 et s'il t'a fait quelque tort, ou s'il te doit quelque chose, mets-le sur mon compte.
19 I, Paul, have written this with my own hand: I will repay. And I need not tell you, that you are also in debt yourself, to me.	19 Moi, Paul, je t'écris de ma propre main: je te le rendrai, pour ne pas te dire que tu te dois toi-même à moi.
20 So it is, brother. May I delight with you in the Lord! Refresh my heart in Christ.	20 Oui, frère, que je reçoive de toi cette joie dans le Seigneur; tranquillise mon coeur dans le Seigneur.
21 I have written to you, trusting in your obedience, knowing, too, that you will do even more than what I say.	21 C'est en comptant sur ton obéissance que je t'écris, sachant que tu feras encore plus que je ne dis.
22 But also, at once, prepare a lodging for me. For I am hoping, through your prayers, to present myself to you.	22 En même temps, prépare-moi un logement; car j'espère vous être rendu, grâce à vos prières.
23 Greet Epaphras, my fellow captive in Christ Jesus,	23 Epaphras, mon compagnon de captivité dans le Christ Jésus, te salue,
24 and Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my helpers.	24 ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes collaborateurs.
