But you are to speak the things that befit sound doctrine.1 It is for you, then, to preach the behaviour which goes with healthy doctrine.
Old men should be sober, chaste, prudent, sound in faith, in love, in patience.2 Older men should be reserved, dignified, moderate, sound in faith and love and perseverance.
Old women, similarly, should be in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well,3 Similarly, older women should behave as befits religious people, with no scandal-mongering and noaddiction to wine -- they must be the teachers of right behaviour
so that they may teach prudence to the young women, so that they may love their husbands, love their children,4 and show younger women how they should love their husbands and love their children,
be sensible, chaste, restrained, have concern for the household, be kind, be subordinate to their husbands: so that the Word of God may be not blasphemed.5 how they must be sensible and chaste, and how to work in their homes, and be gentle, and obey theirhusbands, so that the message of God is not disgraced.
Exhort young men similarly, so that they may show self-restraint.6 Similarly, urge younger men to be moderate in everything that they do,
In all things, present yourself as an example of good works: in doctrine, with integrity, with seriousness,7 and you yourself set an example of good works, by sincerity and earnestness, when you are teaching,and by a message sound and irreproachable
with sound words, irreproachably, so that he who is an opponent may dread that he has nothing evil to say about us.8 so that any opponent will be at a loss, with no accusation to make against us.
Exhort servants to be submissive to their masters, in all things pleasing, not contradicting,9 Slaves must be obedient to their masters in everything, and do what is wanted without argument;
not cheating, but in all things showing good fidelity, so that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.10 and there must be no pilfering -- they must show complete honesty at al times, so that they are in everyway a credit to the teaching of God our Saviour.
For the grace of God our Savior has appeared to all men,11 You see, God's grace has been revealed to save the whole human race;
instructing us to reject impiety and worldly desires, so that we may live soberly and justly and piously in this age,12 it has taught us that we should give up everything contrary to true religion and all our worldly passions;we must be self-restrained and live upright and religious lives in this present world,
looking forward to the blessed hope and the advent of the glory of the great God and of our Savior Jesus Christ.13 waiting in hope for the blessing which will come with the appearing of the glory of our great God andSaviour Christ Jesus.
He gave himself for our sake, so that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and might cleanse for himself an acceptable people, pursuers of good works.14 He offered himself for us in order to ransom us from al our faults and to purify a people to be his veryown and eager to do good.
Speak and exhort and argue these things with all authority. Let no one despise you.15 This is what you must say, encouraging or arguing with ful authority; no one should despise you.
