1 “Amen, amen, I say to you, he who does not enter through the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up by another way, he is a thief and a robber.	1 In verità, in verità vi dico: chi non entra sali per la porta nell’ovile delle pecore ma vi e da qualche altra parte, questi è un ladro e un predone.
2 But he who enters through the door is the shepherd of the sheep.	2 Chi, invece, entra per la porta è il pastore delle pecore;
3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name, and he leads them out.	3 il custode gli apre e le pecore ascoltano la sua voce, ed egli chiama per nome le sue pecore e le mena fuori.
4 And when he has sent out his sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.	4 Quando ha menato fuori tutte le sue pecore, cammina davanti ad esse e le pecore lo seguono, perché conoscono la sua voce.
5 But they do not follow a stranger; instead they flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.”	5 Non seguiranno, invece, un estraneo, ma lo fuggiranno, perché esse non conoscono la voce degli estranei».
6 Jesus spoke this proverb to them. But they did not understand what he was saying to them.	6 Questa similitudine disse loro Gesù, ma quelli non capirono che cosa volesse dir loro.
7 Therefore, Jesus spoke to them again: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that I am the door of the sheep.	7 Gesù, allora, riprese: «In verità, in verità vi dico: io sono la porta delle pecore.
8 All others, as many as have come, are thieves and robbers, and the sheep did not listen to them.	8 Tutti coloro che sono venuti prima di me sono ladri e predoni, ma le pecore non li hanno ascoltati.
9 I am the door. If anyone has entered through me, he will be saved. And he shall go in and go out, and he shall find pastures.	9 Io sono la porta: chi entrerà per me sarà salvo, ed entrerà e uscirà e troverà pascolo.
10 The thief does not come, except so that he may steal and slaughter and destroy. I have come so that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.	10 Il ladro viene solo per rubare, per sgozzare, per distruggere; io son venuto perché abbiano la vita e l’abbiano in abbondanza.
11 I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd gives his life for his sheep.	11 Io sono il buon pastore. Il buon pastore dà la vita sua per le pecore;
12 But the hired hand, and whoever is not a shepherd, to whom the sheep do not belong, he sees the wolf approaching, and he departs from the sheep and flees. And the wolf ravages and scatters the sheep.	12 il mercenario, colui che non è pastore, al quale non appartengono le pecore, vede venire il lupo e abbandona le pecore e fugge — e il lupo le rapisce e le disperde —
13 And the hired hand flees, because he is a hired hand and there is no concern for the sheep within him.	13 perché è mercenario, e non gli importa delle pecore.
14 I am the good Shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me,	14 lo sono il buon pastore, e conosco le mie pecore, e le mie pecore conoscono me,
15 just as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for my sheep.	15 come il Padre conosce me e io conosco il Padre, e do la mia vita per le pecore.
16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold, and I must lead them. They shall hear my voice, and there shall be one sheepfold and one shepherd.	16 E ho altre pecore che non sono di quest’ovile; anche quelle devo condurre, e ascolteranno la mia voce e si farà un solo gregge, un solo pastore.
17 For this reason, the Father loves me: because I lay down my life, so that I may take it up again.	17 Per questo il Padre mi ama, perché io do la mia vita, per riprenderla di nuovo.
18 No one takes it away from me. Instead, I lay it down of my own accord. And I have the power to lay it down. And I have the power to take it up again. This is the commandment that I have received from my Father.”	18 Nessuno me la toglie: la do da me. Ho il potere di darla e il potere di riprenderla. Questo è il comandamento che ho ricevuto dal Padre».
19 A dissension occurred again among the Jews because of these words.	19 Ci fu di nuovo discordia fra i Giudei per queste parole.
20 Then many of them were saying: “He has a demon or he is insane. Why do you listen him?”	20 Molti, poi, di essi, dicevano: «È un indemoniato; delira! perché lo ascoltate?»
21 Others were saying: “These are not the words of someone who has a demon. How would a demon be able to open the eyes of the blind?”	21 Altri dicevano: «Queste parole non sono da indemoniato. Un demonio può forse aprire gli occhi ai ciechi?»
22 Now it was the Feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem, and it was winter.	22 Si celebrò allora a Gerusalemme la festa della Dedicazione. Era d’inverno,
23 And Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon.	23 e Gesù passeggiava nel tempio, sotto il portico di Salomone.
24 And so the Jews surrounded him and said to him: “How long will you hold our souls in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”	24 I Giudei fecero circolo intorno a lui e gli dicevano: «Fino a quando terrai l’animo nostro sospeso? Se tu sei il Messia diccelo chiaramente!»
25 Jesus answered them: “I speak to you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in the name of my Father, these offer testimony about me.	25 Rispose loro Gesù: «Ve l’ho detto e voi non credete; le opere che io faccio nel nome di mio Padre, queste testimoniano di me;
26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep.	26 ma voi non credete perché non appartenete alle mie pecore.
27 My sheep hear my voice. And I know them, and they follow me.	27 Le mie pecore ascoltano la mia voce e io le conosco, e mi seguono.
28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall not perish, for eternity. And no one shall seize them from my hand.	28 lo do loro la vita eterna e non periranno in eterno, e nessuno le rapirà dalla mia mano.
29 What my Father gave to me is greater than all, and no one is able to seize from the hand of my Father.	29 Il Padre mio che me le ha date è più grande di tutti, e nessuno può rapirle dalla mano del Padre.
30 I and the Father are one.”	30 lo e il Padre siamo uno».
31 Therefore, the Jews took up stones, in order to stone him.	31 Di nuovo i Giudei presero dei sassi per lapidarlo.
32 Jesus answered them: “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?”	32 Rispose loro Gesù: «Molte buone opere vi ho mostrato, che vengono dal Padre mio; per quale di queste opere mi lapidate?»
33 The Jews answered him: “We do not stone you for a good work, but for blasphemy and because, though you are a man, you make yourself God.”	33 Gli risposero i Giudei: «Non ti lapidiamo per un’opera buona, ma per bestemmia, e perché tu, essendo uomo, pretendi essere Dio».
34 Jesus responded to them: “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said: you are gods?’	34 Rispose loro Gesù: «Non è scritto nella vostra Legge: lo dissi: siete dèi?
35 If he called those to whom the word of God was given gods, and Scripture cannot be broken,	35 Se la Legge chiama dei coloro ai quali fu rivolta la parola di Dio — e non si può distruggere la Scrittura —
36 why do you say, about him whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You have blasphemed,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God?’	36 perché a me, che il Padre ha consacrato e mandato nel mondo, dite: “Tu bestemmi” perché ho detto: “Sono il Figlio di Dio”?
37 If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe in me.	37 Se non faccio le opere di mio Padre non credetemi;
38 But if I do them, even if you are not willing to believe in me, believe the works, so that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.”	38 ma se io le faccio, anche se non credete a me, credete alle opere, affinché sappiate e conosciate che il Padre è in me e io nel Padre».
39 Therefore, they sought to apprehend him, but he escaped from their hands.	39 Cercavano, dunque, di prenderlo di nuovo, ma egli sfuggì alle loro mani.
40 And he went again across the Jordan, to that place where John first was baptizing. And he lodged there.	40 E ritornò oltre il Giordano, nel luogo dove Giovanni aveva prima battezzato, e vi si fermò.
41 And many went out to him. And they were saying: “Indeed, John accomplished no signs.	41 E molti andarono a lui e dicevano: «Giovanni non ha fatto alcun miracolo, ma tutto ciò che egli ha detto di costui era vero». 42 E molti, in quel luogo, credettero in lui.
42 But all things whatsoever that John said about this man were true.” And many believed in him.
