1 Then, seeing the crowds, he ascended the mountain, and when he had sat down, his disciples drew near to him,	1 Als er die Scharen sah, stieg er auf den Berg, und nachdem er sich gesetzt hatte, traten seine Jünger zu ihm,
2 and opening his mouth, he taught them, saying:	2 und er tat seinen Mund auf, lehrte sie und sprach:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.	3 "Selig die Armen im Geiste, denn ihrer ist das Himmelreich.
4 Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth.	4 Selig die Trauernden, denn sie werden getröstet werden.
5 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be consoled.	5 Selig die Sanftmütigen, denn sie werden das Land besitzen.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.	6 Selig, die hungern und dürsten nach der Gerechtigkeit, denn sie werden gesättigt werden.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.	7 Selig die Barmherzigen, denn sie werden Erbarmen finden.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.	8 Selig, die lauteren Herzens sind, denn sie werden Gott schauen.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.	9 Selig die Friedfertigen, denn sie werden Söhne Gottes genannt werden.
10 Blessed are those who endure persecution for the sake of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.	10 Selig, die Verfolgung leiden um der Gerechtigkeit willen, denn sie werden Gott schauen.
11 Blessed are you when they have slandered you, and persecuted you, and spoken all kinds of evil against you, falsely, for my sake:	11 Selig die seid ihr, wenn sie euch schmähen und verfolgen und lügnerisch alles Böse gegen euch sagen um meinetwillen.
12 be glad and exult, for your reward in heaven is plentiful. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.	12 Freut euch und frohlockt, denn euer Lohn ist groß im Himmel. Ebenso nämlich haben sie die Propheten verfolgt, die vor euch waren.
13 You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, with what will it be salted? It is no longer useful at all, except to be cast out and trampled under by men.	13 Ihr seid das Salz der Erde. Wenn das Salz schal geworden ist, womit soll man es salzen? Es taugt zu nichts weiter, als daß es hinausgeworfen und zertreten wird von den Menschen.
14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.	14 Ihr seid das Licht der Welt. Es kann eine Stadt nicht verborgen bleiben, die droben liegt auf dem Berge.
15 And they do not light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, so that it may shine to all who are in the house.	15 Auch zündet man nicht eine Lampe an und stellt sie unter den Scheffel, sondern auf den Leuchter, und sie leuchtet allen, die im Hause sind.
16 So then, let your light shine in the sight of men, so that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father, who is in heaven.	16 So leuchte euer Licht vor den Menschen, damit sie eure guten Werke sehen und euren Vater preisen, der im Himmel ist.
17 Do not think that I have come to loosen the law or the prophets. I have not come to loosen, but to fulfill.	17 Denkt nicht, ich sei gekommen, das Gesetz oder die Propheten aufzuheben. Ich bin nicht gekommen aufzuheben, sondern zu erfüllen.
18 Amen I say to you, certainly, until heaven and earth pass away, not one iota, not one dot shall pass away from the law, until all is done.	18 Denn wahrlich, ich sage euch: Bis der Himmel und die Erde vergehen, wird nicht ein einziges Jota oder ein einziges Häkchen vom Gesetz vergehen, bis alles geschehen ist.
19 Therefore, whoever will have loosened one of the least of these commandments, and have taught men so, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever will have done and taught these, such a one shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.	19 Wer daher eines von diesen kleinsten Geboten aufhebt und so die Menschen lehrt, der wird als Kleinster gelten im Himmelreich; wer sie aber tut und lehrt, der wird als Großer gelten im Himmelreich.
20 For I say to you, that unless your justice has surpassed that of the scribes and the Pharisees you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.	20 Denn ich sage euch: Wenn eure Gerechtigkeit nicht weitaus größer sein wird als die der Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, werdet ihr nicht hineinkommen in das Himmelreich.
21 You have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not murder; whoever will have murdered shall be liable to judgment.’	21 Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt wurde zu den Alten: "Du sollst nicht töten" (2Mos 20,13; 5Mos 5,17). Wer tötet, wird dem Gericht verfallen sein.
22 But I say to you, that anyone who becomes angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment. But whoever will have called his brother, ‘Idiot,’ shall be liable to the council. Then, whoever will have called him, ‘Worthless,’ shall be liable to the fires of Hell.	22 Ich aber sage euch: Jeder, der seinem Bruder zürnt, wird dem Gericht verfallen sein. Wer zu seinem Bruder sagt: Du Tor! wird dem Hohen Rat verfallen sein; wer sagt: Du Narr! wird der Feuerhölle verfallen sein.
23 Therefore, if you offer your gift at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you,	23 Wenn du daher deine Gabe zum Altare bringst und dich dort erinnerst, daß dein Bruder etwas gegen dich hat,
24 leave your gift there, before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to your brother, and then you may approach and offer your gift.	24 so laß deine Gabe dort vor dem Altar und geh zuerst hin und versöhne dich mit deinem Bruder, und dann komm und opfere deine Gabe!
25 Be reconciled with your adversary quickly, while you are still on the way with him, lest perhaps the adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you will be thrown in prison.	25 Verständige dich mit deinem Gegner ohne Zögern, solange du noch mit ihm auf dem Wege bist, damit dich nicht der Gegner dem Richter und der Richter dem Gerichtsdiener übergibt und du in den Kerker geworfen wirst.
26 Amen I say to you, that you shall not go forth from there, until you have repaid the last quarter.	26 Wahrlich, ich sage dir: Du kommst nicht heraus von dort, bis du bezahlt hast den letzten Heller.
27 You have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’	27 Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt wurde [zu den Alten]: "Du sollst nicht ehebrechen" (2Mos 20,14; 5Mos 5,18).
28 But I say to you, that anyone who will have looked at a woman, so as to lust after her, has already committed adultery with her in his heart.	28 Ich aber sage euch: Ein jeder, der eine Frau anblickt mit begehrlicher Absicht, hat schon die Ehe mit ihr gebrochen in seinem Herzen.
29 And if your right eye causes you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than that your whole body be cast into Hell.	29 Wenn dein rechtes Auge dir zum Ärgernis wird, so reiß es aus und wirf es von dir; denn es ist besser für dich, daß eines deiner Glieder verlorengehe, als daß dein ganzer Leib in die Hölle geworfen werde.
30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you. For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than that your whole body go into Hell.	30 Wenn deine rechte Hand dir zum Ärgernis wird, so haue sie ab und wirf sie von dir; denn es ist besser für dich, daß eines deiner Glieder verlorengehe, als daß dein ganzer Leib in die Hölle fahre.
31 And it has been said: ‘Whoever would dismiss his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce.’	31 Es wurde auch gesagt: "Wer seine Frau entläßt, gebe ihr einen Scheidebrief" (5Mos 24,1).
32 But I say to you, that anyone who will have dismissed his wife, except in the case of fornication, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever will have married her who has been dismissed commits adultery.	32 Ich aber sage euch: Ein jeder, der seine Frau entläßt - nicht kommt in Frage Begründung mit Unzucht (5Mos 24,1)! -, macht sie zur Ehebrecherin, und wer eine Entlassene heiratet, bricht die Ehe.
33 Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not swear falsely. For you shall repay your oaths to the Lord.’	33 Wiederum habt ihr gehört, daß gesagt wurde zu den Alten: "Du sollst nicht falsch schwören" (3Mos 19,12); "du sollst dem Herrn deine Schwüre halten" (4Mos 30,3; 5Mos 23,22).
34 But I say to you, do not swear an oath at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God,	34 Ich aber sage euch: Schwört überhaupt nicht, auch nicht beim Himmel, denn er ist "der Thron Gottes",
35 nor by earth, for it is his footstool, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king.	35 auch nicht bei der Erde, denn sie ist "der Schemel seiner Füße" (Is 66,1), auch nicht bei Jerusalem, denn es ist "die Stadt des großen Königs" (Ps 48,3).
36 Neither shall you swear an oath by your own head, because you are not able to cause one hair to become white or black.	36 Auch nicht bei deinem Haupte sollst du schwören, weil du nicht ein einziges Haar weiß machen kannst oder schwarz.
37 But let your word ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ For anything beyond that is of evil.	37 Es sei euer Jawort ein Ja, euer Nein ein Nein. Was darüber hinausgeht, ist vom Bösen.
38 You have heard that it was said: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’	38 Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt wurde: "Aug um Aug, Zahn um Zahn" (2Mos 21,24; 5Mos 19,21).
39 But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil, but if anyone will have struck you on your right cheek, offer to him the other also.	39 Ich aber sage euch: Wehrt euch nicht gegen den Bösen, sondern wer dich auf deine rechte Wange schlägt, dem halte auch die andere hin!
40 And anyone who wishes to contend with you in judgment, and to take away your tunic, release to him your cloak also.	40 Und wer dich vor Gericht bringen und deinen Leibrock nehmen will, dem lasse auch den Mantel!
41 And whoever will have compelled you for one thousand steps, go with him even for two thousand steps.	41 Und wer dich nötigt zu einer einzigen Meile, mit dem gehe zwei!
42 Whoever asks of you, give to him. And if anyone would borrow from you, do not turn away from him.	42 Wer dich bittet, dem gib, und wer von dir borgen will, den weise nicht ab!
43 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor, and you shall have hatred for your enemy.’	43 Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt wurde: "Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben" (3Mos 19,18) und deinen Feind hassen.
44 But I say to you: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. And pray for those who persecute and slander you.	44 Ich aber sage euch: Liebt eure Feinde [, tut Gutes denen, die euch hassen,] und betet für sie, die euch verfolgen [und verleumden],
45 In this way, you shall be sons of your Father, who is in heaven. He causes his sun to rise upon the good and the bad, and he causes it to rain upon the just and the unjust.	45 auf daß ihr Söhne eures Vaters im Himmel werdet; denn er läßt seine Sonne aufgehen über Böse und Gute und läßt regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte.
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Do not even tax collectors behave this way?	46 Denn wenn ihr die liebt, die euch lieben, welchen Lohn habt ihr? Tun nicht auch die Zöllner das gleiche?
47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more have you done? Do not even the pagans behave this way?	47 Und wenn ihr nur eure Brüder grüßt, was tut ihr Besonderes? Tun nicht auch die Heiden das gleiche?
48 Therefore, be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.”	48 Seid also vollkommen, wie euer Vater im Himmel vollkommen ist!
