1 Samuel 7

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The men of Kiriath-Jearim came and, taking up the ark of Yahweh, brought it to the house of Abinadabon the hil , and consecrated his son Eleazar to guard the ark of Yahweh.	1 Les gens de Qiryat-Yéarim vinrent et firent monter l'arche de Yahvé. Ils la conduisirent dans lamaison d'Abinadab, sur la hauteur, et ils consacrèrent son fils Eléazar pour garder l'arche de Yahvé.
2 From the day when the ark was instal ed at Kiriath-Jearim, a long time went by -- twenty years -- andthe whole House of Israel longed for Yahweh.	2 Depuis le jour où l'arche fut installée à Qiryat-Yéarim un long temps s'écoula -- vingt ans -- ettoute la maison d'Israël soupira après Yahvé.
3 Samuel then spoke as follows to the whole House of Israel, 'If you are returning to Yahweh with al yourheart, banish the foreign gods and Astartes which you now have, and set your heart on Yahweh and serve himalone; and he will deliver you from the power of the Philistines.'	3 Alors Samuel parla ainsi à toute la maison d'Israël: "Si c'est de tout votre coeur que vous revenez àYahvé, écartez les dieux étrangers du milieu de vous, et les Astartés, fixez votre coeur en Yahvé et ne servez quelui: alors il vous délivrera de la main des Philistins."
4 And the Israelites banished the Baals and Astartes and served Yahweh alone.	4 Les Israélites écartèrent donc les Baals et les Astartés et ne servirent que Yahvé.
5 Samuel then said, 'Muster al Israel at Mizpah and I shal plead with Yahweh for you.'	5 Samuel dit: "Rassemblez tout Israël à Miçpa et je supplierai Yahvé pour vous."
6 So they mustered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before Yahweh. They fasted that dayand declared, 'We have sinned against Yahweh.' And Samuel was judge over the Israelites at Mizpah.	6 Ils se rassemblèrent donc à Miçpa, ils puisèrent de l'eau qu'ils répandirent devant Yahvé, ilsjeûnèrent ce jour-là et ils dirent: "Nous avons péché contre Yahvé." Et Samuel jugea les Israélites à Miçpa.
7 When the Philistines heard that the Israelites had mustered at Mizpah, the Philistine chiefs marched onIsrael; and when the Israelites heard this, they were afraid of the Philistines.	7 Lorsque les Philistins surent que les Israélites s'étaient rassemblés à Miçpa, les princes desPhilistins montèrent à l'attaque d'Israël. Les Israélites l'apprirent et ils eurent peur des Philistins.
8 They said to Samuel, 'Do not stop cal ing on Yahweh our God to rescue us from the power of thePhilistines.'	8 Ils dirent à Samuel: "Ne cesse pas d'invoquer Yahvé notre Dieu, pour qu'il nous délivre de la maindes Philistins."
9 Samuel took a sucking lamb and presented it as a burnt offering to Yahweh, and he cal ed on Yahwehon behalf of Israel and Yahweh heard him.	9 Samuel prit un agneau de lait et l'offrit en holocauste complet à Yahvé, il invoqua Yahvé pourIsraël et Yahvé l'exauça.
10 While Samuel was in the act of presenting burnt offering, the Philistines joined battle with Israel, butthat day Yahweh thundered violently over the Philistines, threw them into panic and Israel defeated them.	10 Pendant que Samuel offrait l'holocauste, les Philistins engagèrent le combat contre Israël, maisYahvé ce jour-là tonna à grand fracas sur les Philistins, il les frappa de panique et ils furent battus devant Israël.
11 The men of Israel sal ied out from Mizpah in pursuit of the Philistines and beat them al the way tobelow Beth-Car.	11 Les gens d'Israël sortirent de Miçpa et poursuivirent les Philistins, et ils les battirent jusqu'endessous de Bet-Kar.
12 Samuel then took a stone and erected it between Mizpah and the Tooth, and gave it the nameEbenezer, saying, 'Yahweh helped us as far as this.'	12 Alors Samuel prit une pierre et la dressa entre Miçpa et La Dent, et il lui donna le nom d'Eben-ha-Ezèr, en disant: "C'est jusqu'ici que Yahvé nous a secourus."
13 So the Philistines were humbled and no longer came into Israelite territory; Yahweh oppressed thePhilistines throughout the life of Samuel.	13 Les Philistins furent abaissés. Ils ne revinrent plus sur le territoire d'Israël et la main de Yahvépesa sur les Philistins pendant toute la vie de Samuel.
14 The towns which the Philistines had taken from Israel were given back to Israel, from Ekron al theway to Gath, and Israel freed their territory from the power of the Philistines. There was peace, too, betweenIsrael and the Amorites.	14 Les villes que les Philistins avaient prises à Israël lui firent retour depuis Eqrôn jusqu'à Gat, etIsraël délivra leur territoire de la main des Philistins. Il y eut paix entre Israël et les Amorites.
15 Samuel was judge over Israel throughout his life.	15 Samuel jugea Israël pendant toute sa vie.
16 Each year he went on circuit through Bethel and Gilgal and Mizpah and judged Israel in al theseplaces.	16 Il allait chaque année faire une tournée par Béthel, Gilgal, Miçpa, et il jugeait Israël en tous cesendroits.
17 He would then return to Ramah, since his home was there; there too he judged Israel. And there hebuilt an altar to Yahweh.	17 Puis il revenait à Rama, car c'est là qu'il avait sa maison et qu'il jugeait Israël. Il y construisit unautel à Yahvé.
