1 Samuel 7

1 The men of Kiriath-Jearim came and, taking up the ark of Yahweh, brought it to the house of Abinadabon the hil , and consecrated his son Eleazar to guard the ark of Yahweh.	1 Gli abitanti di Kiriat-Iearìm vennero a portare via l’arca del Signore e la introdussero nella casa di Abinadàb, sulla collina; consacrarono suo figlio Eleàzaro perché custodisse l’arca del Signore.
2 From the day when the ark was instal ed at Kiriath-Jearim, a long time went by -- twenty years -- andthe whole House of Israel longed for Yahweh.	2 Era trascorso molto tempo da quando l’arca era rimasta a Kiriat-Iearìm; erano passati venti anni, quando tutta la casa d’Israele alzò lamenti al Signore.
3 Samuel then spoke as follows to the whole House of Israel, 'If you are returning to Yahweh with al yourheart, banish the foreign gods and Astartes which you now have, and set your heart on Yahweh and serve himalone; and he will deliver you from the power of the Philistines.'	3 Allora Samuele disse a tutta la casa d’Israele: «Se è proprio di tutto cuore che voi tornate al Signore, eliminate da voi tutti gli dèi stranieri e le Astarti; indirizzate il vostro cuore al Signore e servite lui, lui solo, ed egli vi libererà dalla mano dei Filistei».
4 And the Israelites banished the Baals and Astartes and served Yahweh alone.	4 Subito gli Israeliti eliminarono i Baal e le Astarti e servirono solo il Signore.
5 Samuel then said, 'Muster al Israel at Mizpah and I shal plead with Yahweh for you.'	5 Disse poi Samuele: «Radunate tutto Israele a Mispa, perché voglio pregare il Signore per voi».
6 So they mustered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before Yahweh. They fasted that dayand declared, 'We have sinned against Yahweh.' And Samuel was judge over the Israelites at Mizpah.	6 Si radunarono pertanto a Mispa, attinsero acqua, la versarono davanti al Signore, digiunarono in quel giorno e là dissero: «Abbiamo peccato contro il Signore!». A Mispa Samuele fu giudice degli Israeliti.
7 When the Philistines heard that the Israelites had mustered at Mizpah, the Philistine chiefs marched onIsrael; and when the Israelites heard this, they were afraid of the Philistines.	7 Anche i Filistei udirono che gli Israeliti si erano radunati a Mispa e i prìncipi filistei si levarono contro Israele. Quando gli Israeliti lo udirono, ebbero paura dei Filistei.
8 They said to Samuel, 'Do not stop cal ing on Yahweh our God to rescue us from the power of thePhilistines.'	8 Dissero allora gli Israeliti a Samuele: «Non cessare di gridare per noi al Signore, nostro Dio, perché ci salvi dalle mani dei Filistei».
9 Samuel took a sucking lamb and presented it as a burnt offering to Yahweh, and he cal ed on Yahwehon behalf of Israel and Yahweh heard him.	9 Samuele prese un agnello da latte e lo offrì tutto intero in olocausto al Signore; Samuele alzò grida al Signore per Israele e il Signore lo esaudì.
10 While Samuel was in the act of presenting burnt offering, the Philistines joined battle with Israel, butthat day Yahweh thundered violently over the Philistines, threw them into panic and Israel defeated them.	10 Mentre Samuele offriva l’olocausto, i Filistei attaccarono battaglia contro Israele; ma in quel giorno il Signore tuonò con voce potente contro i Filistei, li terrorizzò ed essi furono sconfitti davanti a Israele.
11 The men of Israel sal ied out from Mizpah in pursuit of the Philistines and beat them al the way tobelow Beth-Car.	11 Gli Israeliti uscirono da Mispa per inseguire i Filistei, e li batterono fin sotto Bet-Car.
12 Samuel then took a stone and erected it between Mizpah and the Tooth, and gave it the nameEbenezer, saying, 'Yahweh helped us as far as this.'	12 Samuele prese allora una pietra e la pose tra Mispa e il Dente, e la chiamò Eben-Ezer, dicendo: «Fin qui ci ha soccorso il Signore».
13 So the Philistines were humbled and no longer came into Israelite territory; Yahweh oppressed thePhilistines throughout the life of Samuel.	13 Così i Filistei furono umiliati e non vennero più nel territorio d’Israele: la mano del Signore fu contro i Filistei per tutto il periodo di Samuele.
14 The towns which the Philistines had taken from Israel were given back to Israel, from Ekron al theway to Gath, and Israel freed their territory from the power of the Philistines. There was peace, too, betweenIsrael and the Amorites.	14 Tornarono anche in possesso d’Israele le città che i Filistei avevano preso agli Israeliti, da Ekron a Gat: Israele liberò il loro territorio dalla mano dei Filistei. E ci fu anche pace tra Israele e l’Amorreo.
15 Samuel was judge over Israel throughout his life.	15 Samuele fu giudice d’Israele per tutto il tempo della sua vita.
16 Each year he went on circuit through Bethel and Gilgal and Mizpah and judged Israel in al theseplaces.	16 Ogni anno egli compiva il giro di Betel, Gàlgala e Mispa, ed era giudice d’Israele in tutte queste località.
17 He would then return to Ramah, since his home was there; there too he judged Israel. And there hebuilt an altar to Yahweh.	17 Poi ritornava a Rama, perché là era la sua casa e anche là era giudice d’Israele. In quel luogo costruì anche un altare al Signore.
