NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 When the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.	1 I Filistei, catturata l'arca di Dio, la portarono da Eben-Ezer ad Asdod.
2 Taking the ark of God, the Philistines put it in the temple of Dagon, setting it down beside Dagon.	2 I Filistei, presa poi l'arca di Dio, la introdussero nel tempio di Dagon e la deposero presso Dagon.
3 When the people of Ashdod got up the fol owing morning and went to the temple of Dagon, there layDagon face down on the ground before the ark of Yahweh. They picked Dagon up and put him back in his place.	3 Gli abitanti di Asdod, alzatisi il giorno dopo, andarono al tempio di Dagon e guardarono: ed ecco che Dagon giaceva faccia a terra davanti all'arca del Signore. Allora presero Dagon e lo rimisero al suo posto.
4 But when they got up on the fol owing morning, there lay Dagon face down on the ground before the arkof Yahweh, and Dagon's head and two hands lay severed on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left inits place.	4 L'indomani si levarono di buon mattino, ed ecco che Dagon stava faccia a terra davanti all'arca del Signore: la testa di Dagon e le palme delle sue mani erano in frantumi presso la soglia; solo il torso di Dagon era rimasto intatto.
5 This is why the priests of Dagon and the people frequenting Dagon's temple never step on Dagon'sthreshold in Ashdod, even today.	5 Per questo i sacerdoti di Dagon e tutti quelli che entrano nel tempio di Dagon non calpestano la soglia di Dagon, ad Asdod, fino al giorno d'oggi.
6 Yahweh oppressed the people of Ashdod; he ravaged them and afflicted them with tumours -- Ashdodand its territory. When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening they said,	6 Poi il Signore fece pesare la sua mano sugli abitanti di Asdod e li devastò colpendo con bubboni Asdod e il suo territorio.
7 'The ark of the God of Israel must not stay here with us, for he is oppressing us and our god Dagon.'	7 Gli abitanti di Asdod, visto come andavano le cose, dissero: "Non rimanga presso di noi l'arca del Dio d'Israele, perché la sua mano è pesante contro di noi e contro il nostro dio Dagon".
8 So they summoned al the Philistine chiefs to them, and said, 'What shal we do with the ark of the Godof Israel?' They decided, 'The ark of the God of Israel shal be taken away to Gath.' So they took the ark of theGod of Israel to Gath.	8 Fecero adunare presso di loro tutti i capi dei Filistei e dissero: "Che dobbiamo fare dell'arca del Dio d'Israele?". Risposero: "Si porti a Gat l'arca del Dio d'Israele!". Così trasferirono l'arca del Dio d'Israele.
9 But after they had taken it there, Yahweh oppressed that town and a great panic broke out; afflicting thepeople of the town from highest to lowest, he brought them out in tumours too.	9 Dopo averla trasportata, la mano del Signore fu su quella città con un enorme panico. Egli colpì gli abitanti di quella città dal più piccolo al più grande; scoppiarono bubboni anche ad essi.
10 They then sent the ark of God to Ekron, but when it came to Ekron the Ekronites shouted, 'They havebrought me the ark of the God of Israel to kil me and my people!'	10 Allora mandarono l'arca di Dio ad Accaron. Quando giunse l'arca di Dio ad Accaron, i cittadini protestarono: "Mi hanno condotto l'arca del Dio d'Israele per far morire me e la mia gente".
11 They summoned al the Philistine chiefs and said, 'Send the ark of the God of Israel away; let it goback to where it belongs and not kill me and my people' -- for there was mortal panic throughout the town; Godwas oppressing them.	11 Fatti adunare tutti i capi dei Filistei, dissero: "Rimandate l'arca del Dio d'Israele, perché ritorni al suo luogo e non faccia più morire né me né il mio popolo!". Difatti vi era in tutta la città una costernazione mortale. La mano di Dio si faceva sentire là molto pesante:
12 The people who did not die were afflicted with tumours, and the wailing from the town rose to the sky.	12 gli uomini che non erano morti furono colpiti da bubboni e il gemito della città salì al cielo.
