NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 When the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.	1 Lorsque les Philistins se furent emparés de l'arche de Dieu, ils la conduisirent d'Eben-ha-Ezèr àAshdod.
2 Taking the ark of God, the Philistines put it in the temple of Dagon, setting it down beside Dagon.	2 Les Philistins prirent l'arche de Dieu, l'introduisirent dans le temple de Dagôn et la déposèrent àcôté de Dagôn.
3 When the people of Ashdod got up the fol owing morning and went to the temple of Dagon, there layDagon face down on the ground before the ark of Yahweh. They picked Dagon up and put him back in his place.	3 Quand les Ashdodites se levèrent le lendemain matin et vinrent au temple de Dagôn, voilà queDagôn était tombé sur sa face, par terre, devant l'arche de Yahvé. Ils relevèrent Dagôn et le remirent à sa place.
4 But when they got up on the fol owing morning, there lay Dagon face down on the ground before the arkof Yahweh, and Dagon's head and two hands lay severed on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left inits place.	4 Mais, quand ils se levèrent le lendemain de bon matin, voilà que Dagôn était tombé sur sa face,par terre, devant l'arche de Yahvé, et la tête de Dagôn et ses deux mains gisaient coupées sur le seuil: il ne restaità sa place que le tronc de Dagôn.
5 This is why the priests of Dagon and the people frequenting Dagon's temple never step on Dagon'sthreshold in Ashdod, even today.	5 C'est pourquoi les prêtres de Dagôn et tous ceux qui entrent dans le temple de Dagôn ne foulentpas du pied le seuil de Dagôn à Ashdod, encore aujourd'hui.
6 Yahweh oppressed the people of Ashdod; he ravaged them and afflicted them with tumours -- Ashdodand its territory. When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening they said,	6 La main de Yahvé s'appesantit sur les Ashdodites: il les ravagea et les affligea de tumeurs, Ashdodet son territoire.
7 'The ark of the God of Israel must not stay here with us, for he is oppressing us and our god Dagon.'	7 Quand les gens d'Ashdod virent ce qui arrivait, ils dirent: "Que l'arche du Dieu d'Israël ne reste paschez nous, car sa main s'est raidie contre nous et contre notre dieu Dagôn."
8 So they summoned al the Philistine chiefs to them, and said, 'What shal we do with the ark of the Godof Israel?' They decided, 'The ark of the God of Israel shal be taken away to Gath.' So they took the ark of theGod of Israel to Gath.	8 Ils firent donc convoquer tous les princes des Philistins auprès d'eux et dirent: "Que devons-nousfaire de l'arche du Dieu d'Israël?" Ils décidèrent: "C'est à Gat que s'en ira l'arche du Dieu d'Israël", et on emmenal'arche du Dieu d'Israël.
9 But after they had taken it there, Yahweh oppressed that town and a great panic broke out; afflicting thepeople of the town from highest to lowest, he brought them out in tumours too.	9 Mais après qu'ils l'eurent amenée, la main de Yahvé fut sur la ville et il y eut une très grandepanique: les gens de la ville furent frappés, du plus petit au plus grand, et il leur sortit des tumeurs.
10 They then sent the ark of God to Ekron, but when it came to Ekron the Ekronites shouted, 'They havebrought me the ark of the God of Israel to kil me and my people!'	10 Ils envoyèrent alors l'arche de Dieu à Eqrôn, mais lorsque l'arche de Dieu arriva à Eqrôn, lesEqrônites s'écrièrent: "Ils m'ont amené l'arche du Dieu d'Israël pour me faire périr moi et mon peuple!"
11 They summoned al the Philistine chiefs and said, 'Send the ark of the God of Israel away; let it goback to where it belongs and not kill me and my people' -- for there was mortal panic throughout the town; Godwas oppressing them.	11 Ils firent convoquer tous les princes des Philistins et dirent: "Renvoyez l'arche du Dieu d'Israël, etqu'elle retourne à son lieu et ne me fasse pas mourir, moi et mon peuple." Il y avait en effet une panique mortelledans toute la ville, tant s'y était appesantie la main de Dieu.
12 The people who did not die were afflicted with tumours, and the wailing from the town rose to the sky.	12 Les gens qui ne mouraient pas étaient affligés de tumeurs et le cri de détresse de la ville montaitjusqu'au ciel.
