1 Samuel 3

1 Now, the boy Samuel was serving Yahweh in the presence of Eli; in those days it was rare for Yahwehto speak; visions were uncommon.	1 Il giovinetto Samuele serviva il Signore alla presenza d'Eli. La parola del Signore era preziosa in quei giorni, e non vi era visione manifesta.
2 One day, it happened that Eli was lying down in his room. His eyes were beginning to grow dim; hecould no longer see.	2 Or un giorno, mentre Eli, che aveva gli occhi ottenebrati da non poter vedere, stava coricato al suo posto,
3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying in Yahweh's sanctuary, where the ark ofGod was,	3 prima che la lampada di Dio fosse spenta, mentre Samuele dormiva nel tempio del Signore, dov'era l'arca di Dio,

6 And again Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as youcal ed me.' He replied, 'I did not cal , my son; go back and lie down.'	6 Allora il Signore tornò di nuovo a chiamarlo. Ed egli, alzatosi, andò da Eli a dire: « Eccomi, tu mi hai chiamato! » Eli rispose: « Figlio mio, io non ti ho chiamato: ritorna pure a dormire ».
7 As yet, Samuel had no knowledge of Yahweh and the word of Yahweh had not yet been revealed tohim.	7 Samuele non conosceva ancora il Signore, e la parola del Signore non gli era ancora stata rivelata.
8 Again Yahweh called, the third time. He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.'Eli then understood that Yahweh was cal ing the child,	8 Ma il Signore tornò di nuovo a chiamare per la terza volta Samuele, il quale, alzatosi, andò da Eli,
9 and he said to Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if someone calls say, "Speak, Yahweh; for your servant islistening." ' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.	9 a dire: « Eccomi: tu mi hai chiamato! » Allora Eli, avendo compreso che il Signore chiamava il giovinetto, disse a Samuele: « Torna a dormire; e se di nuovo ti chiamerà, dirai: Parla, o Signore, che il tuo servo ascolta ». Samuele adunque se ne andò a dormire nel suo posto. .
10 Yahweh then came and stood by, cal ing as he had done before, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Samuelanswered, 'Speak, Yahweh; for your servant is listening.'	10 E il Signore venne e si fermò, e chiamò due volte come ner l'addietro: « Samuele, Samuele ». É Samuele rispose: « Parla, o Signore, che il tuo servo ascolta ».
11 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'I am going to do something in Israel which wil make the ears of all whohear of it ring.	11 Allora il Signore disse a Samuele: « Ecco, io sto per fare in Israele una cosa che chiunque l'udrà avrà rintronate ambedue le orecchie.
12 I shal carry out that day against Eli everything that I have said about his family, from beginning to end.	12 In quel giorno io farò precipitare sopra Eli tutto quello che ho detto contro la sua casa: io c mincerò e andrò fino in fondo;
13 You are to tel him that I condemn his family for ever, since he is aware that his sons have beencursing God and yet has not corrected them.	13 perché, dopo avergli predetto che avrei giudicato la sua casa in eterno, a cagione dell'iniquità, egli, che sapeva come i suoi figli agissero indegnamente, non li ha corretti;
14 Therefore -- I swear it to the family of Eli -- no sacrifice or offering shal ever expiate the guilt of Eli'sfamily.'	14 per questo ho giurato alla casa d'Eli che l'iniquità della sua casa non sarà mai espiata con vittime e con offerte ».
15 Samuel lay where he was until morning and then opened the doors of Yahweh's temple. Samuel wasafraid to tel Eli about the vision,	15 Samuele, dopo aver dormito fino alla mattina, aprì le porte della casa del Signore; ma temeva d'indicare ad Eli la visione.
16 but Eli cal ed Samuel and said, 'Samuel, my son.' 'Here I am,' he replied.	16 Eli però lo chiamò, egli disse: « Samuele, figlio mio!» Egli rispose: «Eccomi qui ».
17 Eli asked, 'What message did he give you? Please do not hide it from me. May God bring unnameableil s on you and worse ones, too, if you hide from me anything of what he said to you.'	17 Ed Eli disse: « Qual'è la parola cheti ha detto il Signore? Ti prego di non me la tener nascosta: Dio ti faccia questo e peggio, se mi nascondi anche una sola parola di quelle che ti furon dette».
18 Samuel then told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Eli said, 'He is Yahweh; let him do what hethinks good.'	18 «Allora Samuele gli manifestò tutte le parole senza nasconderne. Ed Eli rispose: « Egli è il Signore: faccia quello che gli sembra bene! »
19 Samuel grew up. Yahweh was with him and did not let a single word fal to the ground of all that hehad told him.	19 E Samuele crebbe; il Signore era con lui, e nemmeno una delle sue parole cadde in terra.
20 Al Israel knew, from Dan to Beersheba, that Samuel was attested as a prophet of Yahweh.	20 E tutto Israele, da Dan fino a Bersabee, riconobbe che Samuele era un fedele profeta del Signore.
21 Yahweh continued to manifest himself at Shiloh, revealing himself to Samuel there,	21 E il Signore continuò ad apparire in Silo; che il Signore si era manifestato a Samuele in Silo, secondo la parola del Signore. Or la parola di Samuele pervenne a tutto Israele.
