1 Samuel 3

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Now, the boy Samuel was serving Yahweh in the presence of Eli; in those days it was rare for Yahwehto speak; visions were uncommon.	1 El joven Samuel servía al Señor en la presencia de Elí. La palabra del Señor era rara en aquellos días, y la visión no era frecuente.
2 One day, it happened that Eli was lying down in his room. His eyes were beginning to grow dim; hecould no longer see.	2 Un día, Elí estaba acostado en su habitación. Sus ojos comenzaban a debilitarse y no podía ver.
3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying in Yahweh's sanctuary, where the ark ofGod was,	3 La lámpara de Dios aún no se había apagado, y Samuel estaba acostado en el Templo del Señor, donde se encontraba el Arca de Dios.
4 when Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He answered, 'Here I am,'	4 El Señor llamó a Samuel, y él respondió: «Aquí estoy».
5 and, running to Eli, he said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.' Eli said, 'I did not call. Go back and lie down.'So he went and lay down.	5 Samuel fue corriendo adonde estaba Elí y le dijo: «Aquí estoy, porque me has llamado». Pero Elí le dijo: «Yo no te llamé; vuelve a acostarte». Y él se fue a acostar.
6 And again Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as youcal ed me.' He replied, 'I did not cal , my son; go back and lie down.'	6 El Señor llamó a Samuel una vez más. El se levantó, fue adonde estaba Elí y le dijo: «Aquí estoy, porque me has llamado». Elí le respondió: «Yo no te llamé, hijo mío; vuelve a acostarte».
7 As yet, Samuel had no knowledge of Yahweh and the word of Yahweh had not yet been revealed tohim.	7 Samuel aún no conocía al Señor, y la palabra del Señor todavía no le había sido revelada.
8 Again Yahweh called, the third time. He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.'Eli then understood that Yahweh was cal ing the child,	8 El Señor llamó a Samuel por tercera vez. El se levantó, fue adonde estaba Elí y le dijo: «Aquí estoy, porque me has llamado». Entonces Elí comprendió que era el Señor el que llamaba al joven,
9 and he said to Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if someone calls say, "Speak, Yahweh; for your servant islistening." ' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.	9 y dijo a Samuel: «Ve a acostarte, y si alguien te llama, tú dirás: Habla, Señor, porque tu servidor escucha». Y Samuel fue a acostarse en su sitio.
10 Yahweh then came and stood by, cal ing as he had done before, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Samuelanswered, 'Speak, Yahweh; for your servant is listening.'	10 Entonces vino el Señor, se detuvo, y llamó como las otras veces: «¡Samuel, Samuel!». El respondió: «Habla, porque tu servidor escucha».
11 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'I am going to do something in Israel which wil make the ears of all whohear of it ring.	11 El Señor dijo a Samuel: «Mira, voy a hacer una cosa en Israel, que a todo el que la oiga le zumbarán los oídos.
12 I shal carry out that day against Eli everything that I have said about his family, from beginning to end.	12 Aquel día, realizaré contra Elí todo lo que dije acerca de su casa, desde el comienzo hasta el fin.
13 You are to tel him that I condemn his family for ever, since he is aware that his sons have beencursing God and yet has not corrected them.	13 Yo le anuncio que condeno a su casa para siempre a causa de su iniquidad, porque él sabía que sus hijos maldecían a Dios, y no los reprendió.
14 Therefore -- I swear it to the family of Eli -- no sacrifice or offering shal ever expiate the guilt of Eli'sfamily.'	14 Por eso, juro a la casa de Elí: jamás será expiada la falta de su casa, ni con sacrificios ni con oblaciones».
15 Samuel lay where he was until morning and then opened the doors of Yahweh's temple. Samuel wasafraid to tel Eli about the vision,	15 Samuel se quedó acostado hasta la mañana. Después abrió las puertas de la Casa del Señor, pero no se atrevía a contar la visión a Elí.
16 but Eli cal ed Samuel and said, 'Samuel, my son.' 'Here I am,' he replied.	16 Entonces Elí lo llamó y le dijo: «Samuel, hijo mío». «Aquí estoy», respondió él.
17 Eli asked, 'What message did he give you? Please do not hide it from me. May God bring unnameableil s on you and worse ones, too, if you hide from me anything of what he said to you.'	17 Elí preguntó: «¿Qué es lo que te ha dicho? Por favor, no me ocultes nada. Que Dios te castigue, si me ocultas algo de lo que él te dijo».
18 Samuel then told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Eli said, 'He is Yahweh; let him do what hethinks good.'	18 Samuel le contó todo, sin ocultarte nada. Elí exclamó: «El es el Señor; que haga lo que mejor le parezca».
19 Samuel grew up. Yahweh was with him and did not let a single word fal to the ground of all that hehad told him.	19 Samuel creció; el Señor estaba con él, y no dejó que cayera por tierra ninguna de sus palabras.
20 Al Israel knew, from Dan to Beersheba, that Samuel was attested as a prophet of Yahweh.	20 Todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba, supo que Samuel estaba acreditado como profeta del Señor.
21 Yahweh continued to manifest himself at Shiloh, revealing himself to Samuel there,	21 El Señor continuó apareciéndose en Silo, porque era allí donde él se revelaba a Samuel.
