1 Samuel 3

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Now, the boy Samuel was serving Yahweh in the presence of Eli; in those days it was rare for Yahwehto speak; visions were uncommon.	1 Il giovanetto Samuele serviva il Signore alla presenza di Eli. In quei giorni la parola di Dio era preziosa, perché le visioni non erano frequenti.
2 One day, it happened that Eli was lying down in his room. His eyes were beginning to grow dim; hecould no longer see.	2 Un certo giorno Eli stava dormendo nella sua cella. I suoi occhi avevano cominciato ad indebolirsi ed egli non riusciva a vedere.
3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying in Yahweh's sanctuary, where the ark ofGod was,	3 La lampada di Dio non si era ancora spenta, mentre Samuele dormiva nel tempio del Signore, dov'era l'arca di Dio.
4 when Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He answered, 'Here I am,'	4 Allora il Signore chiamò Samuele che rispose: "Eccomi!",
5 and, running to Eli, he said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.' Eli said, 'I did not call. Go back and lie down.'So he went and lay down.	5 e corse da Eli dicendo: "Eccomi, dato che mi hai chiamato". Questi rispose: "Non ti ho chiamato, torna a dormire!". Egli se ne andò a dormire.
6 And again Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as youcal ed me.' He replied, 'I did not cal , my son; go back and lie down.'	6 Il Signore chiamò una seconda volta: "Samuele!". Samuele si alzò, andò da Eli e disse: "Eccomi, mi hai chiamato". Questi rispose: "Non ti ho chiamato, figlio mio, torna a dormire!".
7 As yet, Samuel had no knowledge of Yahweh and the word of Yahweh had not yet been revealed tohim.	7 Samuele ancora non conosceva il Signore né gli era stata rivelata la parola del Signore.
8 Again Yahweh called, the third time. He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.'Eli then understood that Yahweh was cal ing the child,	8 Il Signore chiamò di nuovo per la terza volta: "Samuele!". Questi si alzò e, andato da Eli, disse: "Eccomi, mi hai chiamato". Allora Eli capì che il Signore stava chiamando il ragazzo.
9 and he said to Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if someone calls say, "Speak, Yahweh; for your servant islistening." ' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.	9 Disse quindi Eli a Samuele: "Va' a dormire, e se ti chiamerà dirai: "Parla, Signore, perché il tuo servo ti ascolta!". Samuele se ne andò a dormire nel suo posto.
10 Yahweh then came and stood by, cal ing as he had done before, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Samuelanswered, 'Speak, Yahweh; for your servant is listening.'	10 Allora venne il Signore, si pose accanto e chiamò come le altre volte: "Samuele, Samuele!". Samuele rispose: "Parla, perché il tuo servo ti ascolta".
11 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'I am going to do something in Israel which wil make the ears of all whohear of it ring.	11 Il Signore disse a Samuele: "Ecco, io sto per fare in Israele una cosa che farà rintronare le orecchie di chiunque l'udrà.
12 I shal carry out that day against Eli everything that I have said about his family, from beginning to end.	12 In quel giorno compirò contro Eli tutto quello che ho predetto riguardo alla sua casa, dall'inizio alla fine.
13 You are to tel him that I condemn his family for ever, since he is aware that his sons have beencursing God and yet has not corrected them.	13 Gli annunzio che sto per punire la sua casa per sempre per il delitto da lui conosciuto: che i suoi figli disprezzavano Dio e non li ha corretti.
14 Therefore -- I swear it to the family of Eli -- no sacrifice or offering shal ever expiate the guilt of Eli'sfamily.'	14 Per questo giuro alla casa di Eli: non sarà espiato in eterno il delitto della casa di Eli né con sacrificio né con oblazione".
15 Samuel lay where he was until morning and then opened the doors of Yahweh's temple. Samuel wasafraid to tel Eli about the vision,	15 Samuele dormì fino al mattino, poi aprì le porte della casa del Signore. Samuele aveva timore di riferire la visione a Eli,
16 but Eli cal ed Samuel and said, 'Samuel, my son.' 'Here I am,' he replied.	16 ma Eli chiamò Samuele dicendo: "Samuele, figlio mio!". E lui: "Eccomi!".
17 Eli asked, 'What message did he give you? Please do not hide it from me. May God bring unnameableil s on you and worse ones, too, if you hide from me anything of what he said to you.'	17 Quello riprese: "Che cosa ti ha detto? Su, non me la tenere nascosta! Dio ti faccia questo e peggio ancora, se mi nascondi qualcosa di tutto quello che ti ha detto".
18 Samuel then told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Eli said, 'He is Yahweh; let him do what hethinks good.'	18 Allora Samuele gli manifestò ogni singola cosa, non gli nascose niente. Quello disse: "Egli è il Signore! Faccia ciò che è bene ai suoi occhi!".
19 Samuel grew up. Yahweh was with him and did not let a single word fal to the ground of all that hehad told him.	19 Samuele poi diventò grande, il Signore era con lui e non fece andare a vuoto nessuna di tutte le sue parole.
20 Al Israel knew, from Dan to Beersheba, that Samuel was attested as a prophet of Yahweh.	20 Tutto Israele da Dan a Bersabea seppe che Samuele era accreditato come profeta del Signore.
21 Yahweh continued to manifest himself at Shiloh, revealing himself to Samuel there,	21 Il Signore continuò a manifestarsi a Silo, perché egli si rivelava a Samuele a Silo con la sua parola. (Eli era molto vecchio e i suoi figli continuavano sempre peggio con la loro condotta davanti al Signore).
