1 Samuel 3

1 Now, the boy Samuel was serving Yahweh in the presence of Eli; in those days it was rare for Yahwehto speak; visions were uncommon.	1 O jovem Samuel servia ao Senhor sob os olhos de Heli. a palavra do Senhor era rara naqueles dias, e as visões não eram freqüentes.
2 One day, it happened that Eli was lying down in his room. His eyes were beginning to grow dim; hecould no longer see.	2 Ora, aconteceu certo dia que Heli estava deitado {seus olhos tinham-se enfraquecido, e ele mal podia ver},
3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying in Yahweh's sanctuary, where the ark ofGod was,	3 e a lâmpada de Deus ainda não se apagara. Samuel repousava no templo do Senhor, onde se encontrava a arca de Deus.
4 when Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He answered, 'Here I am,'	4 O Senhor chamou Samuel, o qual respondeu: Eis-me aqui.
5 and, running to Eli, he said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.' Eli said, 'I did not call. Go back and lie down.'So he went and lay down.	5 Samuel correu para junto de Heli e disse: Eis-me aqui: chamaste-me. Não te chamei, meu filho, torna a deitar-te. Ele foi e deitou-se.
6 And again Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as youcal ed me.' He replied, 'I did not cal , my son; go back and lie down.'	6 O Senhor chamou de novo Samuel. Este levantou-se e veio dizer a Heli: Eis-me aqui, tu me chamaste. Eu não te chamei, meu filho, torna a deitar-te.
7 As yet, Samuel had no knowledge of Yahweh and the word of Yahweh had not yet been revealed tohim.	7 Samuel ainda não conhecia o Senhor; a palavra do Senhor não lhe tinha sido ainda manifestada.
8 Again Yahweh called, the third time. He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.'Eli then understood that Yahweh was cal ing the child,	8 Pela terceira vez o Senhor chamou Samuel, que se levantou e foi ter com Heli: Eis-me aqui, tu me chamaste. Compreendeu então Heli que era o Senhor quem chamava o menino.
9 and he said to Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if someone calls say, "Speak, Yahweh; for your servant islistening." ' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.	9 Vai e torna a deitar-te, disse-lhe ele, e se ouvires que te chamam de novo, responde: Falai, Senhor; vosso servo escuta! Voltou Samuel e deitou-se.
10 Yahweh then came and stood by, cal ing as he had done before, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Samuelanswered, 'Speak, Yahweh; for your servant is listening.'	10 Veio o Senhor pôs-se junto dele e chamou-o como das outras vezes: Samuel! Samuel! Falai, respondeu o menino; vosso servo escuta!
11 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'I am going to do something in Israel which wil make the ears of all whohear of it ring.	11 O Senhor disse a Samuel: Eis que vou fazer uma tal coisa em Israel, que a todo o que a ouvir ficar-lhe-ão retinindo os ouvidos.
12 I shal carry out that day against Eli everything that I have said about his family, from beginning to end.	12 Naquele dia cumprirei contra Heli todas as ameaças que pronunciei contra a sua casa. Começarei e irei até o fim.
13 You are to tel him that I condemn his family for ever, since he is aware that his sons have beencursing God and yet has not corrected them.	13 Anunciei-lhe que eu condenaria para sempre a sua família, por causa dos crimes que ele sabia que os seus filhos cometiam, e não os corrigiu.
14 Therefore -- I swear it to the family of Eli -- no sacrifice or offering shal ever expiate the guilt of Eli'sfamily.'	14 Por isso jurei à casa de Heli que a sua culpa jamais seria expiada, nem com sacrifícios nem com oblações.
15 Samuel lay where he was until morning and then opened the doors of Yahweh's temple. Samuel wasafraid to tel Eli about the vision,	15 Samuel ficou deitado até pela manhã, quando abriu as portas da casa do Senhor. Ele temia contar a visão a Heli.
16 but Eli cal ed Samuel and said, 'Samuel, my son.' 'Here I am,' he replied.	16 Heli, porém chamou-o e disse: Samuel, meu filho! Eis-me aqui, respondeu ele.
17 Eli asked, 'What message did he give you? Please do not hide it from me. May God bring unnameableil s on you and worse ones, too, if you hide from me anything of what he said to you.'	17 E Heli: Que te disse ele? Não me ocultes nada. Deus te trate com toda a severidade, se me encobrires algo de tudo o que ele te disse.
18 Samuel then told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Eli said, 'He is Yahweh; let him do what hethinks good.'	18 Então Samuel contou-lhe tudo, sem nada ocultar. Heli exclamou: O Senhor fará o que lhe parecer melhor.
19 Samuel grew up. Yahweh was with him and did not let a single word fal to the ground of all that hehad told him.	19 Samuel crescia, e o Senhor estava com ele. Ele não negligenciava nenhuma de suas palavras.
20 Al Israel knew, from Dan to Beersheba, that Samuel was attested as a prophet of Yahweh.	20 Todo o Israel, desde Dã até Bersabéia, reconheceu que Samuel era um profeta do Senhor.
21 Yahweh continued to manifest himself at Shiloh, revealing himself to Samuel there,	21 E o Senhor continuou a se manifestar em Silo. É ali que o Senhor aparecia a Samuel, descobrindo-lhe sua palavra.
