1 Samuel 3

1 Now, the boy Samuel was serving Yahweh in the presence of Eli; in those days it was rare for Yahwehto speak; visions were uncommon.	1 - Samuele frattanto serviva il Signore sotto gli occhi di Eli. In quei giorni poi la parola del Signore era rara, nè si avevano visioni manifeste.
2 One day, it happened that Eli was lying down in his room. His eyes were beginning to grow dim; hecould no longer see.	2 Or avvenne che un certo giorno Eli, i cui occhi eransi offuscati, nè poteva vedere, se ne stava coricato al suo solito posto.
3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying in Yahweh's sanctuary, where the ark ofGod was,	3 La lampada di Dio non era ancora spenta, e Samuele dormiva nel tempio del Signore, ove stava l'arca di Dio.
4 when Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He answered, 'Here I am,'	4 Allora il Signore chiamò Samuele, il quale risposto: «Eccomi»,
5 and, running to Eli, he said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.' Eli said, 'I did not call. Go back and lie down.'So he went and lay down.	5 corse da Eli e gli disse: «Eccomi, poichè tu m'hai chiamato». Ma Eli rispose: «Non t'ho chiamato; torna a dormire». Ed egli se ne andò e dormì.
6 And again Yahweh cal ed, 'Samuel! Samuel!' He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as youcal ed me.' He replied, 'I did not cal , my son; go back and lie down.'	6 Di nuovo il Signore chiamò Samuele, il quale, levatosi, si portò da Eli e gli disse: «Eccomi, poichè tu m'hai chiamato». Ed Eli rispose: «Non t'ho chiamato, figlio mio; torna a dormire».
7 As yet, Samuel had no knowledge of Yahweh and the word of Yahweh had not yet been revealed tohim.	7 Ora Samuele non conosceva ancora il Signore, e la parola del Signore non gli era stata ancora manifestata.
8 Again Yahweh called, the third time. He got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, as you cal ed me.'Eli then understood that Yahweh was cal ing the child,	8 Per la terza volta il Signore ripetè la chiamata di Samuele, che, alzatosi, andò da Eli
9 and he said to Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if someone calls say, "Speak, Yahweh; for your servant islistening." ' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.	9 e disse: «Eccomi, chè tu m'hai chiamato». Capì allora Eli che il Signore chiamava il giovinetto e disse a Samuele: «Va' a dormire, e se sarai chiamato ancora dirai: - Parla, Signore, che il tuo servo ti ascolta -». E Samuele andò e dormì nel suo posto.
10 Yahweh then came and stood by, cal ing as he had done before, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Samuelanswered, 'Speak, Yahweh; for your servant is listening.'	10 E il Signore venne e si fermò e come le altre volte chiamò replicatamente: «Samuele, Samuele». Samuele rispose: «Parla, Signore, che il tuo servo ti ascolta»,
11 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'I am going to do something in Israel which wil make the ears of all whohear of it ring.	11 e allora il Signore disse a Samuele: «Ecco che io sto per fare in Israele una cosa che farà rintronare ambedue le orecchie di chiunque l'udrà.
12 I shal carry out that day against Eli everything that I have said about his family, from beginning to end.	12 In quel giorno susciterò contro Eli quanto ho detto sopra la sua casa: io comincerò e finirò;
13 You are to tel him that I condemn his family for ever, since he is aware that his sons have beencursing God and yet has not corrected them.	13 poichè gli ho predetto che avrei giudicato la sua casa in eterno a cagione della iniquità, perchè egli sapeva che i suoi figli agivano indegnamente e non li ha corretti.
14 Therefore -- I swear it to the family of Eli -- no sacrifice or offering shal ever expiate the guilt of Eli'sfamily.'	14 Perciò ho giurato alla casa di Eli che l'iniquità di essa non sarà espiata in eterno nè con vittime, nè con oblazioni».
15 Samuel lay where he was until morning and then opened the doors of Yahweh's temple. Samuel wasafraid to tel Eli about the vision,	15 Dormì poscia Samuele fino al mattino; [alzatosi] e aperte le porte della casa del Signore, temette di riferire ad Eli la visione.
16 but Eli cal ed Samuel and said, 'Samuel, my son.' 'Here I am,' he replied.	16 Eli però lo chiamò e gli disse: «Samuele, mio figlio!». «Eccomi», rispose.
17 Eli asked, 'What message did he give you? Please do not hide it from me. May God bring unnameableil s on you and worse ones, too, if you hide from me anything of what he said to you.'	17 Ed egli: «Che cosa ti ha detto il Signore? Non me lo nascondere, te ne prego. Iddio faccia lo stesso e più ancora a te, se mi nascondi cosa alcuna di quanto egli ti ha detto».
18 Samuel then told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Eli said, 'He is Yahweh; let him do what hethinks good.'	18 Samuele allora gli manifestò tutto, senza nulla nascondere. Al che Eli soggiunse: «Egli è il Signore; faccia pur ciò che gli piace».
19 Samuel grew up. Yahweh was with him and did not let a single word fal to the ground of all that hehad told him.	19 Frattanto Samuele crebbe e con lui era il Signore, il quale non lasciò cadere a terra neppur una delle sue parole.
20 Al Israel knew, from Dan to Beersheba, that Samuel was attested as a prophet of Yahweh.	20 Tutto Israele poi da Dan a Bersabe e conobbe che Samuele era un fedele profeta del Signore.
21 Yahweh continued to manifest himself at Shiloh, revealing himself to Samuel there,	21 Ed il Signore tornò più volte a manifestarsi in Silo, perchè egli erasi manifestato a Samuele in Silo, secondo la parola del Signore. La parola di Samuele poi perveniva a tutto Israele.
